Those grooves (teeth) prevent the caps from walking axially. The cap still needed to lift in the radial direction to allow the ring to shift outward. Interesting video.
No it will slide and break the threads. They are cast. We have had many caps push the bearing adjustment nut out and break them threads. Causing backlash to change and the diff to explode.
I’m curious. Would it be possible just to weld the caps permanently in the stock position? I know the diff won’t be serviceable afterwards but if it breaks it would be toast regardless 🤷🏾♂️
If you had a machined 2x or 4x 1/4" inch x 3/8" inch long dowel pin holes both top & bottom & either side of the 2 bolts so that you could put in 4x 1/4" inch x 3/4" long dowels in then it would stop any sideways movement of the clamping surfaces then that part would not fail. I was a Toolmaker by trade & putting in Dowel pins in the bearing clamps on one side of the 2 bolts or both sides of the 2 bolts gives you precise alignment of gears & bearings together with your stronger thicker bolts would make the housing near unbreakable for the cheap price of dowel pins & not add very much weight.
I also have a tool and die degree. Unfortunately there is no room to add a dowel. We looked at all the options and this one the best and most affordable.

Hi, and thanks for a great video! :-) Will it be possible to buy the 4 pinbolts somewhere or will it be neccessary to have them made? I live in Denmark, Europe, so it will be too expensive to have the pumpkin shipped to you :-) Further, are the boltholes perfect aligned so it will be possible to make the holes bigger with a rival-tool? thanks

My diff is clunking when turning at low speeds but everything still seems to work fine. Do you think somthing like this is beginning or the lsd sticking?
