You hit the nail right on the head. Listening to a pull w the top up, I'm also hardpressed to tell the difference between stock. It would be cool to have for my mugen build, but like, is it worth it just to say I have one more mugen part on the car....? hahaha idk. It definitely is super cool tho. I really appreciate the in depth thoughts on it. This was super helpful.

I like quite exhausts. 16yrs ago I had a Mugen Gymkhana spec exhaust manifold on my R-spec B18c5 with a RSR Ex Mag 60mm exhaust. RSR marketed that exhaust just as your title, "The quietest on the market." That exhaust was very quiet from the jump, but it slowly became much more loud over time. I had a "test pipe" in place of the cat and that makes the exhaust run cooler. Moisture and unspent fuel vapor soak up in the muffler packing making it less a effective sound dampener. Exhaust never rusted, it simply became LOUD AF over time.

That Mugen exhaust does sound good, I think like the tone of the HKS Hi Power dual exhaust a little better. It's about $600 and sounds really good. It's hard to tell from a video how exhaust sounds irl though.

I've been enjoying my Mugen s2000 exhaust for almost 20 years now and it's like new, never rusts or deteriorates in any way. Much lighter in weight than stock (roughly half), and more throaty, bassy sound. Can drive top down all day long without getting a headache. This is the exhaust Honda should have used from the beginning. Even though I had to spend money on an exhaust to get the sound the car should have had at purchase, it's the best investment I ever made (about $1300 shipped back then). A perfect amount of additional combustion sound to balance out the engine clatter at the front end (valves, etc). Soon we won't have engines in our cars and this will just be a memory. Thank you for posting for posterity. I hope you had fun making the video. You explained things perfectly.

Screw the E36, more on the S2000 please?

I think it fine on the public roads. It kinda have that split personality where it’s quiet with top up and more bass with the top down.

Have you tried the Tanabe Medallion Touring exhaust? If so, how does it compare to the Mugen?

You're running the stock cat which kills the high end of the exhaust note and doesn't allow you to get the maximum performance benefit of your Mugen. You should run a test pipe and then you'll hear the true character of the F20C shine thru 😉 Not sure if you can run a test pipe without trouble in Texas though?

I’m into quiet also I have an ‘09 si been wanting to buy the Mugen 60 mm, but from what I understand you wanna go 70 76 mm’s sound isn’t important to me what’s the performance outcome? Especially costing 8 bills I wanna deep sound and that’s what you got bro I love the sound you got but performance? Worth the price?
