The Firsts: Episode 74: Sa'ad Ibn Muadh Notes: -Sa'd is the son of Mu'adh ibn al-Numan, of the Abdul-Ashhal clan of the Aws tribe and Kabsha bint Rafi, of the Jewish Banu al-Harith clan of the Khazraj tribe. -He married his brother Aws's widow, Hind bint Simak and had two sons, Amr and Abdullah. -As'ad Ibn Zurara was his maternal cousin. -His lineage continued through his son Amr, who had nine sons. -He was the leader of his people at the age of 31. -Usayd Ibn Hudayr was sent by Sa'ad to Musab and As'ad to put an end to what they were preaching. Usayd came to Sa'ad after embracing Islam and reacted in a manner which made the latter think that something wrong had happened to his cousin. Sa'ad went to Musab. Musab calmed him down and told him about Islam. He embraced Islam immediately and his conversion led to the immediate conversion of his entire subtribe of the Aws, the Banu Abdul-Ashhal. -He took the pledge of Aqabah and was among the twelve chiefs which were appointed by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. -Sa'd was a friend of Umaiya Ibn Khalaf and whenever Umaiya passed through Medina, he used to stay with Sa'd and whenever Sa'd went to Mecca, he used to stay with Umaiya. -Sa'd had visited Mecca once to perform Umrah with his non-Muslim friend Umayyah, when they came across Abu Jahl. They had an argument, and as it became heated, Sa'd threatened Abu Jahl with preventing his safe passage through Medina if he stopped the Muslims from performing pilgrimage in Mecca. -Before the battle of Badr, the Prophet ﷺ was consulting with his companions about the battle. Miqdad was fully ready to go and fight and so was Sa'ad. Sa'ad said that if Prophet ﷺ went into the middle of the ocean and fought, we would do so as well. From this incident, he got his name, 'Siddiq Al-Ansar'. -During the battle of Uhud, Sa'ad never fled the field and was the last person to see Musab Ibn Umair. -His brother Amr and his stepson Al-Harith Ibn Aws were martyred at Uhud. -After Uhud, when Prophet ﷺ said "Where are those who cry over Hamzah?", Sa'ad gathered the Ansars in front of the Prophet's ﷺ house and they all started crying over Hamzah [Niyaha (to cry out loudly outside the house) was made forbidden afterwards]. -When the Muslims were building the trenches to protect themselves from outside invasion, they got to know that Banu Qurayza in Madinah were scheming against the Prophet ﷺ. Sa'ad was deeply concerned about this as his tribe, Al-Aws, had an alliance with Banu Qurayza. Sa'ad visited Banu Qurayza and they said they wanted the old days back and wouldn't hurt Sa'ad. -Banu Qurayza's first attack was on the fortress where the women and children were kept. Safiya Bint Abdul Muttalib knocked the first soldier that came in and threw his body out. The other soldiers ran away thinking that an army was present in the fortress. -Sa'ad was struck by an arrow from a man of Banu Qurayza on his shoulder because of which there was heavy bleeding. He prayed to Allah that if there's any battle left with Quyash, then allow him to see it and if not, then grant him martyrdom only after the judgment of Banu Qurayza. -When the judgement of Banu Qurayza came, Sa'ad, who was the judge, said that all men should be killed on which the people of Banu Qurayza started cursing and yelling at him. -One of the most remarkable things about Sa'ad Ibn Muadh is that on his death the throne of Allah shook out of joy on his return. -When Saad's body was picked up, it felt as if he had no weight because the angels were carrying him. -Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was given a silken garment, and its beauty and delicacy astonished the people. On that, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "No doubt, the handkerchiefs of Sa'ad ibn Muadh in Paradise are better than this."

I am so so so thankful and grateful you did this Halaqa Skh Omar Suleiman. I just came back from performing my Umrah and prepared myself before my trip to listen to the 3 earlier series. It was so nicely explained and when I was in Madinah my sense of understanding and appreciations of the earlier people there deepens my love of being in Madinah. The love the Ansar had for our Prophet and the Muhajirin. May Allah bless you and Yakeen Institute abundantly His mercies and blessings

May Allah reward you abundantly for sharing this knowledge. The way you speak is as beautiful and innocent that I imagine how beautiful it must have been in real life.

شيخ السلا عليكم. Why Saad (RA), didn't want go to the battle of Badur? Was he still not fully believed? Or He didn't want to confront Umeyag? A bit confusing. May be you want Say Umeyah and mentioned Saad by mistake?
Assalamu aleykum JazakaAllahu kheyran ya sheikh for the incredible work but can u reconcile when u spoke of Uthman ibn Madhun u in eps 48 u said he was the first man to die after hijra n now As'ad
