Your product functions are impressive. I have a icm2 that doesnt seem to work properly like it once did. It now has really bad reception and when i try to change the station by using the preset buttons it routinely stays on the same station no mater which button I push. I tried cleaning the amplifer/antenna contacts in the c pillar and reception improved for a short while then was poor again. Would you happen to know why this maybe. Do I need a new ICM? I spilled water in the rear driver side footwell, could that have damaged the amplifer under the seat and then radio? Turn signal sounds still works. Thank you.
Very impressed by your skill! I also have a few questions about the phone. I read that you use an LG G3, but I wonder how many of the phones features are still there? Would it be possible to i install a sim card? Is the phone still attached to a battery and constantly changing, or is it directly getting power from the cigarette plug? Are the wifi and cellular antennas still functional? Are the phones used or brand new? Is it the 16 or 32 gb version of the g3? I have a 93 myself, and I am very interested in your solution, a potential customer of your. Nice work, keep it up!!
The phones are not new, and the exact specification is a lucky dip simply because I acquire them second hand as they are no longer made. You can access the SIM and the battery by removing the front of the ICM3 which is held on with clips. The phone is powered directly by the car power and is switched on and off with the car ignition, but the battery is intact. WiFi and Cellular functionality is not modified and will work as usual.
@@ikkeolve It uses the stock system through a built-in FM transmitter, so it shouldn't be any different. It won't sound better than the stock system, if that's what you're asking
Stuart Bell Do all the ICM versions have the phone sim provision? I though this would have been made redundant with the unit you’ve made due to Bluetooth and adding TX/RX usb modules? 🤷🏻♂️
@@dingbat5653 The replacement screen is a mobile phone, so you can put a SIM into it if you want. But you can do without a SIM and use Wifi to your mobile phone's hotspot if that's what you'd prefer. Does that answer your question?
That's really cool. ***** Stars. I have been looking for a solution for my rotten looking buttons in my 2005 93 Vector convertible. I have one question. How does Internet connection work. Is there a built in SIM or is it powered via a mobile phone? Cheers.
The clicking noise comes from a plastic gear that has some teeth broken, in turn that gear belongs to the electric motor assembly that controls the flap for the recirculation option on the climate control. There's at least 1 video about it (by The flying mechanicDIY)
I recently picked up this car on the cheap. It has a problem with a roof sensor that causes the climate contol to flick quickly between its roof up and roof down modes, this is likely the cause of the missing teeth. Gotta fix that first. There's a lot of issues with this car!
Look like a great solution! I do have a Lefthand 9-3 aero convertibel from 2004, would that go? You need to use a simcard also ore just use your own phone when it is installed? It is a Ipone?
These are right hand drive only unless you send me a left hand ICM. Or you can buy a modification pack and modify your own. No, you don't need a simcard. If you want to use online functionality, you can connect it to your phone's WiFi hotspot
I assume the Android unit needs its own mobile service contract? SIM card slot is accessible with the unit removed from the dashboard, or does it have to be dismantled altogether to install a SIM? Does it have phone functionality as well?
You don't need to give it a contract, but you could of you wanted to. I just connect it to my mobile phone's hot spot. You can remove the front of the ICM3 by releasing the plastic clips and this will give you access to the back of the phone if you want to install a SIM. The phone functionality is complete, but please bear in mind that it being installed within the plastic enclosure of the ICM3 will reduce the capability of the microphone
Very ingenious this system, congratulations. I have a SAAB 9.3 VECTOR from 2005 European model (steering wheel on the left), no problem with the orientation of the phone screen and the arrangement of the cables (jack and micro usb)? thanks for your reply
Hey Michel, no issue as both left and right hand ICM3s are identical apart from the rounded part of the facia being on the opposite side. The screen orientation is reverse landscape and is forced by an app on the phone
Hi Stuart, With this new radio the car comes really into the 20's. I got a convertible automatic 9-3 from 2000. Steering wheel left. Can you help me too with a swap radio? Gerard from Holland.
The 2000 model will be much easier as its prior to the fibre optic system. It will be a matter of acquiring a wire harness, a bezel and then choosing which radio to put in. I recommend the android ones
Hi Stuart, I am really overwhelmed. This is exactly what I've been looking for forever for my 2005 Saab CV. How long does it usually take when I send you my own device (left-hand) ? It makes sense to do it in November anyway, when my CV is in the garage. The £360 does not include shipping, correct?
Hey Claudius, I can usually do the conversion in a day. If you are supplying the ICM3, it's actually £290. Shipping varies wildly depending on where you are in the world. That also affects the amount of time your ICM3 will be away from the car - remember your car won't start without an ICM unit. Also, keep in mind that there's a kit so that you can upgrade your own ICM unit
Stuart Bell , thanks a lot for your response! I am in Switzerland and would send by DHL or so. I just need to enter a local data sim card once I got it back from you?
@@SaabUnleashed , in the meantime I had to realize, that it's dificult to get ICM3 on the market as for the trial I didn't want to use my own one. Do you know by any chance if the front plate from a RHD can be simply changed to make it a LHD ICM3?
@@claudiusmariadichtl2244 As I understand it, I believe they are identical, so you should be able to just swap them over. Please note however that I have not tried this
Hi, USB key and reverse camera cannot be used with this solution as there are no physical connections for these items. You would need something similar to the Joying touch screen shown in one of my other videos
@@SaabUnleashed thank you so much for your response. For the connection of the jyoing device, what is the solution for the connection? I know it's necessary to use an optical loops. Thank you so much for your response
@@laurentwagenheim2200 It's a massively complex job requiring the rewiring of your car speakers to bypass the fibre optics. It's not easy. This modified android device is the only easy way to have a more updated system
@@SaabUnleashed 😂👌 I know that feeling ATM I'm looking on some of the other videos to get some ideas to get an upgraded stereo I just don't fancy a ICM 3 when it already have ICM 2
@@SaabUnleashed I'm planing to make something like with the joying 8.8 just thinking to use a 4 channel amp in the back to drive the door speakers and the rear shelf speakers ( got the 8 speaker ) and just go fully aftermarket
It should be because it only do FM modulation not a real modifying of the ICM I would do a 7" laptop an magnetic holder for labtops and then same FM modulator build up. That's a nice way for the ICM 1 and 2 where 2 you could remove the screen at make it looks more neat
Hello Stuart, do you think it’s possible if i buy the package of components so i can make one myself to also receive a tutorial how to install the android device on my current icm3?
Hi. It seems awesome. Sent you an email. But, like you say, for benefit of all... Some questions. all radio stations will be listen as normal? CD will work as well? All Steering wheel commands will fully work? Will it use the inbuilt GPS antena? If required can it be reversed to original configuration? Thanks
does it work only with this model? coz my saab 9-3 vector convertable 2004 it has display at the top dashboard. I wanne use mp3 player only, than who`s using cd ?..thanks for your help
You have two options. You can either find someone close to you with a Tech2 computer, this can enable the aux in on your radio and you can then just plug a wire or Bluetooth adaptor in. Alternatively, you can locate and upgrade your radio to ICM3 (the one with the colours screen) which has the aux enabled by default and this mod will be possible
@@SaabUnleashed thanks m8 for your quick respond. my main issue at the moment is, that my cd stucks into the cd player. as I mentioned before, i wont use cd anymore. I`ll get in tounch with you through FB..and yes I have some car electrician in case. but your system is really cool, but not sure if it works.
You need to put a modified phone in the place of the original screen and install a few other components. I sell the packs and the components to do this.
Stuart Bell so with an FM transmitter? I actually using this system for a Galaxy tab in the Dashboard hahahaha.....so you are Powering also that module with the cable that go to cigarette lighter?
@@SaabUnleashed well I sort of have one, but I am not sure if it works, I’ll check it. If it doesn’t, I can buy another one online in UK and send it straight over to you, that will work? And then you will send me the whole unit assembled. Can you share your email with me?
@@seva_che Hey Seva, my email and facebook link is in the video description. You can certainly buy an ICM3 from the UK, but remember that they will only be suitable for right hand drive cars. I'm not sure where you're located. But in any case, you can send a unit to me to modify.
@@SaabUnleashed Thanks! They are suitable for LHD cars also if you have the frame for the LHD, and I do have. I guess mine will work, but the buttons are all messed up) so I am thinking to get a fresh one. I’ll send you an email soon.
@@CardboardSliver It's a standard ICM3, so you get volume and radio control. You won't be able to contol Spotify tracks for example, but the on screen track buttons are huge as designed for car use, so you can do it without looking
It can indeed be used in the US, but you have a left-hand drive ICM3 which are not available to me. You would need to buy an available kit to modify your ICM3
GPS, yes. Image Mirroring, yes if you install apps that allow it. Bluetooth, yes it has a bluetooth radio, but not in the common head unit way. You can connect Bluetooth devices like ODB2 ect. If you want to stream audio, you will need to install an app on both the head unit and the originating phone. Although this is pointless because you should use the head unit to stream direct (or download the music directly so you don't need to stream. Phone calls, no. There is no accessible microphone
Stuart Bell I completely understand the appropriate apps to phone to be able to communicate and adding functions. The GPS thing would come down to using your mobile as a hotspot or other components to be added? I’m very interested in purchasing one of your units.
@@dingbat5653 So you don't necessarily have to use your phone as a hot spot for GPS. It depends if you intend on using online functionality like traffic updates, roadworks and speed cameras / police warnings. If you just want simple Nav, you can download maps on Google Maps or TomTom and just use them
I have since made improvements to the accuracy of the GPS functionality as I found the built-in one didn't connect to many satellites when installed in the dash. I made an install video for one of my customers, you can see it here. The GPS unit is included within the original price. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W-hjjxC6QII.html
Stuart Bell Thank you for the replies and it sounds very cool and a great effort for the Saab 9-3 owners that have no options (until now). Did you ever get the 9” wide screen going in another video you posted?
This is no longer available, it was superseded with the newer version. The newer version is this - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zDnQZDIFRCU.html
Stuart it's possible to send me the instructional video of assembly? Just to see if u have worked like my actual solution with FM trasmitter.....i would like to see, and appreciate ur job, i'm very appasionate of Saab and these kind of work.....i will left an email address if you want to send me the video. Bye Bro, from Italy!
hey and how did you fit in the LG G3 to the ICM3? is it a complicated job? And what about your other video - that one was an Android device made for refitting to any car right? And the price, I have an ICM3 what would I get in your 240 pound package? Thanks and cheers for a very nice video!
No, it's not complicated to put it in. You remove the original screen and then glue the phone in place. The complicated part is the rooting and coding of the phone to work specifically for this usage. If you buy the package, all the complicated stuff is done, you just need to do the assembly. I will do an instructional video for those of you that want to buy the pack.
@@SaabUnleashed aha, nice job! Would an lg g5 work? And which os and packages did you use? I'm a computer engineer so know my way around Linux and rooting a device :)
@@grgocupic3888 No, the G5 won't physically fit in the gap. The G3 is the only phone which has the nearest physical dimensions both case wise and with the 16:9 screen. I wrote my own root software for this phone for this design
