I was the chief engineer during the 90's. I know this sucker in and out. I can tell you it was better than you think. I mean BETTER. This video only shows the flying stuff, but I wish I could tell you all about the fighting stuff. Its not only about a missile or "top speed", but the detailing in every single design element deep into each system. Well, the Viggen was designed by young engineers and perfected by the same before they died. It was never about the money, but true loyalty, compassion, and fun.
What you would call the Ultimate Large STOL fighter. And it even had a reverse but no reverse BEEP, BEEP, BEEP.. My Second all time Favorite Fighter in the world. A Beautiful Delta wing Killing Bird. Just plan awusome. Love and want one.
Man, All this viggen Landing i saw on RU-vid were pretty hard on the Gear!! I think that's probably because of the reverse thrusting mode that activates hydraulically once the front wheel compress.......
I have heared that the hard landings are an effect of the steep angle thats requiered to get a short landing. Short landing and take off is prio for swedish airforse in case off enemies bombing our airfields. Ca 400 meter is enough for Viggen! The two wheel setup is to save the regular roads from damages.
