Corycia is almost ready for the water. Still working on the engine. It is difficult to start, problems with fuel, injector nozzle and oil. A steep learning curve!
got a sabb too - sometimes it is difficult to start and yes you said batteries - but if you consider that the plug is for heating, the question arises, heating what and why. If the air coming into the engine is already hot then the engine starts easily. I put a diesel soaked rag in front of the air intake - at minus 10 it works a treat. Usually i put a good quality paper clip on the end of a rod to hold the burning rag so i can operate the key with one hand and hold the burning rag in front of the air intake with the other. Other tips are follow the maintanence schedule
I have the same boat, same engine. Easy to start when primed with oil. Type in sabb type h low revs and you can see couple of my videos. I sail out of Toronto Canada
Hi we lived with a sabb 8hp for many years. The injector will need servicing eventually which will lead to poor starting . You can remove the injector and leave connected to the fuel line. Then crank and look at the spray pattern , it should be fine mist only , ifs it squirty or you can see droplets it need servicing. It's kind of a diesel speciality job but does not need replacing. It will run with a bad injector but starting needs a well adjusted. We never used any sort of heater , or the cigarette type firework , always started cold with 1/3 throttle. Usually on the starter. Cheers Warren
Hi Warren, thank you for the information. Yes I have been working on the injector and other bits! I am on a voyage from UK to Mallorca at the moment. Will put a sabb update video soon. It saved my life!
Thanks Javi! Yes un poco dificil arrancar! You ave a halcyon 27? My friend does research on them , what is she called? more videos soon as Corycia will be in the water next week!
S.V.Corycia mine is called “susea” before “sacripant” . I’ll upload some videos on RU-vid. Also I’m looking forward to see more of your evolution. Enjoy it!
Hi you know there is a decompression knob ( black handle) on the top of the engine? Open that spin engine at 1/3 throttle have sombody else close level if possible when spinning well 3-4 cranks should do it.
That's a good achievement to hand start it. I think I managed it a couple of times. Is the heater plug OK? They recommend only about 7-10 seconds. I did burn one out. Check the continuity, should have low resistance if OK. If your battery is up, the Dynastart ought to get her going . Have you got a solar panel to keep the battery up when away from mains charging?
Thank you...Yes it is a bit difficult to start her up!! I have changed the glowplug, the problem is the batteries, I need new ones! I have a small solar panel, just enough for lights etc. I need a more powerful one of these also! When you said to check the continuity, I didn't have a clue what you were talking about! After a search and some reading, I have an idea....I am on a very steep learning curve! Thanks for your advice.
@@mjcooke2sailingmostly Thank you! Corycia will be in the water in about a week and I agree she could last many more years, very solid, well built, I am looking forward to sailing her!
