By the age of 17 Sabo's had a lot more formal training than Ace and Luffy. The most they've had is sporadic visits from Garp.

Fun Fact (but also heart wrenching ): Oda drew a "What if" manga chapter called Luff where Sabo regained his memories in time to save Ace and Luffy at Marineford. Check it out if you don't mind getting your heart tugged

Fun fact: what makes Sabo fully remembers everything was the newspaper that probably said smth along the lines of "Fire Fist Ace killed by Sakazuki in front of Straw Hat Luffy". Sakazuki would refer to the action of exchanging sake and becoming brothers which they did when they were young so what makes him remember would be seeing "Ace, Sakazuki, Luffy"

This is often lost in translation but Akainu's real name "Sakazuki" is also the name for the ritual of sharing a cup of sake. So when reading the article Sabo was hit with both Ace, Luffy and their pledge to be brothers

This thought always comes back whenever I see Luffy beat up one of the warlords I think Crocodile was probably the only one he could defeat at that point in his journey. Kuma: nope, Hancock: nope, Moria: (no gear 3 or 2) nope, Flamingo: nope, Jimbei: nope, Mihawk: HELL NOPE. In a way, Croc was the weakest at the time.
