He reminds me of a presenter on a British tv chess programme for kids called Play Chess (I've just looked it up - the memorable opening titles are on RU-vid); the presenter was Bill Hartston and had a similarly soothing voice. It was my favourite programme (for a while) when I was young!
I see you included BetterHelp as a paid sponsor... They are under investigation from the FTC and there has been claims of them selling user information to Facebook for targeted advertising... Have viewed many of your videos. You are of higher integrity than that company. Worth reviewing for your own standing as well as protecting your fans.
@@mburg33why is everyone assuming that he gives a sh*t? Because he affects a harmless demeanor? If he’s getting paid to promote a scam, he either knew about it or didn’t care enough to know about it. It’s pretty straightforward.
I think it's not necessarily obvious how a therapy company could be doing something wrong because it seems so innocuous as a business. Wouldn't be too hard on Eric for that.
My favourite series on youtube right now too! Thank you Eric for all the patient and thorough explanations. To be honest, I watched many of your chess videos so far, and it was sometimes a bit hard for me to see your (in my perception only) arrogant approach... And in this series, I am totally enchanted by your softness, humbleness and respect to all the opponents, in terms the language you use (e.g. when you know for sure you gonna wn, but you still take seriously their now-totally-irrelevant "threats") :) Keep up the good spirit and much thanks again!
During the second game, while Ne5 is a good move and winning, there is an absolute BOMBSHELL move here with Bg8!! that "sacrifices" the bishop in order to open the queen to the checkmating square on f7. Even with best defense, engine announces mate in 12. Some of the lines are absolutely amazing, showing the absolute coordination of white's pieces and the chaos in black's camp. 19:12
At 14:00 I always love playing d4 right away. After the pawn recaptures I then play c3. If takes again you can sac the bishop on f7 and follow up with a queen check on d5 if the king takes back. It's called the haxo gambit I think
I love this series and can't wait to see what you do when you get to my world (1300-1400.) Seeing the though process throughout the rating climb is very instructive!
Hi Eric. Thanks for this series - I'm really enjoying it, and I'm sure it's improving my game! I know you had some comments asking for longer videos. For me, I think shorter more frequent uploads would be better. I'm sure whatever you do, someone will complain about it! No matter what people ask for, I suggest you make the content that YOU want to make. Thanks again. :)
I was just about to look for an old IMRosen VOD to get my Eric fix on and saw this upload. Yay! 🎉 “Chess can be an emotional roller coaster” says the chillest guy in chess. 🧘🏻♂️
I hate in-video ads performed by the channel owners. God I hate them. For me, it just ruins the whole point of getting away from mainstream TV/radio/etc. Even with ad blocking software, you STILL GET ADS. At LEAST this way, I can just scroll and skip. I've been watching your vids for some days now. Just interesting to see your thoughts as you play since I consider myself an amateur. thx
*I love how you show a more stable style, you avoided the center fork trick and a few more advanced tactics to help the newer players that's really nice*
9:11 screw up. Should take rook with bishop first, K takes bish, you now have no undefended bishop to lose THEN take the free hanging white knight while attacking white's queen with the rook.
Oh know.. what it must to be like to have such a high demand to sit at home and play chess and make absurd money doing it. Mega jelly! I'm home, playing chess and watching chess and not making money! Oh know the unfairness of capitalism. Oh no My life! :P
If you have a product or service in high demand you generally get paid well for it. GothamChess is making absurd amounts of money but not IMEric. Maybe when he hits 1M followers more opportunities will open up for him. I hope so. Eric’s the man! 🤘
I only discovered you and your channel at the start of this speed run and so for me this episode (game 2) really revealed just how advanced your theoretical is! And I'm sure this is just only the surface 👏 Thoroughly enjoyed this as a new chess player 👏
33:05 I was looking at f4 here with the idea to pin the queen to the king. Did you consider that move? Off course a lot was already winning in this position :)
That game... With the aggressive opening and the moves at 21:20... Is too too educational, exciting and entertaining. Thank you so much Eric for this amazing content! I am enjoying these series and definitely learning a lot!
Great video eric! Watched all the way through and cant wait till you get to the 1500+ range! (I could do with some good rosen commentary against my rating range :))
Thank you very much for this series. Please don’t feel pressured to make longer episodes than you feel happy to but obviously selfishly it’s really great and I am learning a lot with each episode.
Just a heads up when u said u gained 15 points. U actually got 10 points elo. The 15 points is for the league trophies. Winning a rapid game gives u 15 “trophies” which add up to u advancing to the next league.
I feel like the only one who likes shorter videos, since sometimes I just don't have the time or attention span to watch even a half hour all at once. It's easier to watch multiple short videos if I have the time, rather than have to save a long video to come back to later and hope that RU-vid starts it back up where I left off.
8:20 Is there a reason not to play bishop takes bishop on g2? It comes with check, and either the king takes back or the queen does, and either way knight takes knight looks good after that.
A MOST ENJOYABLE SERIES, I'M NOT WATCHING ANYTHING ELSE, AS EACH OF THESE VIDEOS CONTAINS VITAL LESSONS. SHARING THIS CONTENT AS WELL. WITH THANKS ERIC, .. MIKE.
Game 1 "The Center Game" is interesting to see what other people around my level play. I'm a pirc player with black so I never know the frequency of 1. e4, e5 2. d4, exd4 3. Qxd4. I've moved on from the center game as my main because even loaded up with theory I would find myself in subpar positions all the time. However, after 3. Qxd4, Nc6 4. Qe3, Nf6 I would play 5. Nf3 not that e5 pawn push. The center game white chooses to give up the initiative for tactics later on. Two things white shouldn't do is delay castling or make more unnecessary queen moves. I play the scotch now.
On my best day I might play at 1,000, so I'm not presuming to make a suggestion but want to ask a question. One of my problems is seeing what seem like good moves, and discovering after I make them that I missed something and they were terrible moves. I'm flummoxed over how to learn to calculate. Example: at about 32:47 when you pulled your dark bishop back to e3 & black took your knight at d6, I got a phone call and froze the screen while I had a long conversation. Staring at the board, I thought I KNEW what move you'd make next; you'd move that dark bishop to c5, pinning the rook against the queen ... but you didn't. Yet, I don't know what I missed. Is it just practice to learn to anticipate my opponents' next moves?
Season's Greetings, Eric. God bless you for a nearly-hour-long speedrun. And God Bless Us Everyone! (Said Tiny Tim.) PS. Are you wearing a full-length baby-pink romper suit?! 😉
6:21 I believe Eric could have won at least a piece with *1...d3!?* when *2.cd* loses to *2...Nd3+* , and *2.Qe4* can be met by *2...f5 3.Qf4 g5* and the queen can't keep guarding the knight.
27:30 i cant believe he couldnt see it. instead of dXe5, queen to H5 check and next move collect the knight. The line goes after black stops check with pawn to g6, queen collects the knight at e5 with check, then blaack blocks either with queen or bishop or knight queen collects the free rook on h8. game would have finish pretty soon in around 4-5 moves later. i guess its more diffcult to chat explain and play. kudos to eric but very high level players sometimes cant play amazing against the very low level players. And thats why chess is amazing.
I saw the bishop sacrifice, rook F3 and then queen sacrifice idea at the end of the last game! I actually paused the video and put the position on Stockfish because I was curious why Eric didn't play it. Turns out, it is winning but Stockfish still recommends saving the bishop first. Goes to show, Chess Masters' instincts are something else.
In the facing the Rousseau gambit game you missed Queen h5+ winning the knight cuz if block with Knight Queen takes f7# checkmate if block with pawn Queen takes e5+.
Guys here 36:09 dont go for b5. Just take the pawn on d5 if he takes with the knight move your bishop to d7 if he take your knight with the bishop or knight you re capture with the b7 pawn. That’s what I learned from stock fish. 😂
Would love for you to switch to Sicilian Dragon for Black soon. I know you recommended it for PogChamps so it would be nice to see it at around this level.
8:08 Qg5? Really enjoying the series. Suggested rule for the conclusion is where you are beaten three consecutive times by different opponents or five consecutive times by the same opponent. You will have done us proud as we are very proud to know you.
I really enjoyed this video. So much to learn. I also appreciate your dry humor “…so opponent does have some time to ponder…Maybe regret their earlier life decisions…” 😂
u r humble n great, but the third game where u sacrificed the rook with the bshop is totally unrelateable and stupid. nobody would let the bishop escape. u won cuz u r a gm
24:22 i really love that d5 line -- that ending is just kinda funny.... after all the attacking and tripling up on the e-file, black simply hides their king behind white's own pawn, and all the heavy pieces can do is stare at their pawn and just HATE it XD
You mentioned the Légal Trap (Légal's Mate). When you showed it to us before, I thought it was something I might add to my repertoire. However, after looking into it further, I found that after 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 d6 4. Nc3 Bg4 5. Nxe5 ... (exposing the white queen as bait for the trap) Black should just respond with 5. ... Nxe5. Black is up a knight vs. a pawn, and the threat has been successfully mitigated. According to Lichess (using Stockfigh 16), black is up considerably (-5.3).
