I don't know why, but I like it when thrash bands can do clean vocals. Phil does good clean vocals. And his deeper tone is different from the traditional clean thrash vocal, which is still indebted to Halford. Phil's vocals remind me more of Grave Digger
@MedIevalCyrax
@MedIevalCyrax 4 года назад
Forbidden does clean vocals too.
@princealigorna7468
@princealigorna7468 4 года назад
@@MedIevalCyrax Oh, there's a few that do. It's a pretty even split between clean singing, scream-singing/shout-singing (like Exhumer or Evile, which is kinda what I consider the signature thrash vocal. When you say "thrash", I think most people think of that style of vocal), and flat out screaming in thrash. I just like clean vocals in thrash because thrash is such a fast, punky, and extreme genre that clean vocals don't seem like they'd fit. But good bands find a way to add melody to those fast, riffy grooves
@MedIevalCyrax

@@princealigorna7468 I only like the way forbidden does it on their Twisted Into Form album, it's done completely different than how "Modern Thrash" does it.

Oh shit!! New Sacred Reich!!!! \m/ And as a Mexican, I'm very, very stoked for Cemican's shout-out!! :D \m/ Great band!! They play some sort of folk metal, combined with elements of death metal ... They use a lot of prehispanic instruments. Cool, cool, cool band, that just played in Wacken, btw. Go check 'em out. :D Not enough "Mexa-bands" over at Banger ... I don't blame you, Blayne, the title is in nahuatl, an indigenous language of Mexico. Lotta Mexicans have a lotta trouble pronouncing such words, cos there are a lot that we still use. XD

I've been on the fence about this album, even though SR were one of my favorite thrash bands back in the day. But Nuclear Assault were too and they came back with a stinker of an album. I was sold though as soon as you said 31 minutes. Finally a nice album that's not as over bloated as the new Metallica, and Iron Maiden
@Corplackey
@Corplackey 4 года назад
I fully agree with you. Nuclear Assault was one of my top 5 and list it with their last album. As I listen to Awakening more, I am digging it, and 31 minutes works. No need to push it beyond what’s needed. Always killer live and can’t wait to see them again soon. 🤘🏼

@@Corplackey Even The American Way was only 35 minutes long. I like an album that as soon as it's done I can't wait to listen to it again, not an album 60 + minutes in and I'm wondering when the hell it's going to be over with.

I think the proverbial game of Russian Roulette might end when the Exhorder record drops, Blayne. The second single sounds like Pantera and Dukes era Exodus. Very by the numbers thrash. Kinda heavy-ish but if you go and listen to the song Exhorder - Exhorder right after there's just no contest which song rips harder.
@bateman2112
@bateman2112 4 года назад
...The second single sounds like Pantera.... Since Pantera ripped off Exhorder isn't that redundant?
@HomeOnDeranged
@HomeOnDeranged 4 года назад
@@bateman2112 actually no. Because now fhe tables have completely turned and rather than sound like classic Exhorder, they are playing Dean guitars tuned precisely like Dimebag would. It's nothing like the guitar tone on Slaughter In The Vatican, which would sound all kinds of gnarly with some modern production. To add insult to injury, instead of the old maniacal vocals, Kyle Thomas now does a whole bunch of bluesy posturing just like he did all through the 90s and 2000s in bands like Alabama Thunderpussy and Floodgate. The vocals sound decent but it is a far, far cry from what made Exhorder so intense.

Yo, Blayne. As long as you're open to Latin American influence in your Metal, I highly suggest you check out Acrania (the Mexican band, not the UK one). Best way I could describe it is that it's as if Atheist and Coroner did a tour in Mexico and decided to make Latin Jazz with the locals. Good shit, their most recent album is one of the best in the modern Thrash scene.

Dave did the right thing by leaving Machine Head and rejoining Sacred Reich. Dave's a great drummer but Machine Head's music hasn't been all that interesting to me for pretty much ever. Burn My Eyes is still the only MH album that I actually like, which doesn't even have Dave on it. The new Sacred Reich is pretty damn awesome though. I am highly anticipating Vitriol's debut LP "To Bathe From The Throat Of Cowardice", because they're serially badass! I'm also having high hopes for the new Mayhem album "Daemon" as well.
