Nobody thought Nate was some lamb for the slaughter. Conor was coming up to a catch-weight... giving up a huge height, reach and natural weight advantage. That was the equalizer for that match. The mma world may have wanted Mcgregor to win to add to his legend, but experts knew the experienced dangerous Diaz would present a real task. Remember, the second fight went the distance with both fighters a mess and coulda gone either way in the decision.
@david11193
@david11193 Год назад
@@BuccWylde Nate was a lamb feed to slaughter. I’m talking strictly about the first fight where Mcgregor closed nearly a -400 favorite, if that doesn’t show that the experts expected him to win and easily then I don’t know what. . Your missing a big detail that Nate had taken the fight on 2 weeks notice because RDA got injured and pulled out of the fight vs Conor. Also at that point in his career Mcgregor had yet to show a big weakness looking good against tested fighters like Chad Mendez, Poireir, and fresh off a quick win against Aldo it seemed like he would be too fast and accurate for a Nate Diaz who had previously been out struck by Josh Thompson.

McGregor wasn't that big of a favorite against Diaz. Sure he was on a tear, but he was moving up in weight against a good boxer who's bigger and had a much better ground game. Yes the betting odds were in McGregor's favor, but mostly due to popularity instead of skill. Most people who know MMA gave Diaz a solid chance to win.

I really feel that last one. I’ve been there and it sucks. Unlucky timing, get thrown in a triangle the exact moment you exhale fully and you have no time to counter w strikes, a slam or getting a leg across his body to escape…just instantly have to tap or nap cuz you have no air in your lungs to work with. Hate it. Lol

Context is important. At the time Mirko was considered almost invincible (he never lost before) and he was coming into his own as an MMA fighter. While Kevin despite being a former UFC HW champion, was regarded as somewhat of a has-been and was well known for his inconsistency. Few could have predicted Kevin actually following his corners game-plan (he almost never did prior) which was taking advantage of a small hole in Mirko's game when he setup his trademark high-kick to explode forward with a left hand. Kevin Randleman could have been an all time great with a world-class corner and good fight IQ, he was freakishly athletic. Before there was Yoel Romero, there was Kevin Randleman.

@@madgavin7568Yes, just a little correction. The initial plan was to have Fedor Emelianenko vs Mirko Cro Cop at the final. That's why I believe the rematch was fixed as well as all of Kevin Randleman losses

Glad to see Ian freeman in there. That was huge at the time and was one of the biggest stars to come from the uk up to that point. Had serious power but lacked the wrestling. unfortunately fought for the at a time when there wasn't much exposure at least it was the case for guys over this side of the pond.

I mean those two losses they showed of Silva was before Silva became the beast he did in the UFC. He didn't have that aura when he was fighting in Pride. He was known as a good fighter coming out of chute boxe gym but the stars at that point was the ax murderer and shogun. I am sure Shonan was a underdog in that fight because he was a smaller guy with an okay record but nothing crazy. What was amazing about the win was the finish, not that he was a sacrificial lamb. In fact although I heard from Josh Barnett that he was loosing badly I remember he was leg kicking the crap out of Silva the entire night.

Those uppercuts from Boetsch were effing brutal ....every single one of them lands flush like a dang video game. That head kick he used to stop him from running so he could proceed to deliver more awkward and extremely violent upper cuts was about as hardcore as you can get. I had to watch those over and over again. Pure physical destruction.

The level of disrespect Houston showed jardine by lifting him off both feet with that uppercut is, astronomical. Man actually caught flight for a quick second, breaking jaws and gravitational barriers I see.
