I don’t think they are mutilated tails. Saddlebreds naturally carry their tails high the way Arabians do.

@@MagnificentHorses late to this but they are. we cut the tendons in the tail before using a brace to push them up, which is fairly dangerous to the animal medically speaking, and typically, at least along the west coast, most saddlebreds will be gingered before a class. love saddlebreds but we definitely need to stop the tail nicking and gingering. i can see one horse in this class whose tail probably hasn't been nicked, but all others are, and the un-nicked horse looks to have been gingered. again, i love the breed, i've been around the show circuit for a while now and have helped behind the scenes at shows, but nicking/mutilation and gingering are both incredibly common at least on the entire west coast to the point where it's actually pretty rare a horse doesn't experience one or both before a show. haven't been to a/worked a show where nicked tails in bad sets + plummer's ginger salve weren't out in plain daylight. i think for the love of the discipline we need to cut both out, since they're both inarguably cruel. we gotta stop telling people they're incorrect about the mutilation too, and instead assure them we agree that it's wrong and want to change it.

I used to own a saddlebred and I can tell you that these horses are not uncomfortable and that they are naturally high stepping with upright arched necks like you see in this video.

Saddlebreds will move with a high head and knee action regardless of the discipline as its what they're bred for. Saddlebreds as a trotting breed even has a slightly different skeletal structure than running breeds.
