The triangle of death is no joke ...... First time i used one (wasnt real sure how) , cost me a ton of $ .... Broken jaw , broken eye socket , knocked out cold into the fast lane of the interstate .... Along with a 3 week concussion ...... My issue came from a broken cross pin in the jack itself ( Thanks Smittybuilt) ..... Always use extreme caution when using this style jack .... They will ratchet down very fast if the handle slips from your grasp ..

I would like to add, to steady the jack hold your hand on top of the jack never between the jack & vehicle and always stand beside the jack never behind it. This video is great very 👌 good. The first time I used one of these Jack's was 60 years ago, it was my Dad's what they called a Handyman with a wooden handle. Be Safe

I own 3 Hi Lift Jacks and totally love them. I’ve got a 60” First Responders Hi Life Jack, a 60” Patriot Hi Lift Jack and a 48” X-Treme Hi Lift Jack. Along with those I also purchased at least 1 or 2 things of every Hi Lift Jack accessory that was available and made by Hi Lift Jack. The people at Hi Lift Jack were all awesome and were all totally great to deal with. I cannot highly recommend them enough! The reason why I bought so many jacks and accessories is for a few reasons. The first is redundancy. Anytime that I go out off roading, I want as much redundancy put on my Jeep as possible. Next is so multiple vehicles can be helped at once should they be stranded. And with where I live, anytime that it snows, lots of motorists get stranded.

Great Video, I own both the 48" All Cast jack and the Extreme 60" jack, I love em, best 4x4 accessory ever made, The genuine jacks work fine as long as a person switches the brain on before use then life is good.

Wish i had found this video first. I can attest to the triangle of death being true had a close call. Was lowing my jack and started talking to my neighbor. Lost my grip on the handle and it caught the brim of my hat and sent it at least 20 feet up and 10 feet away. Since then i dont get distracted when using it.

An important thing to consider before gratuitously strapping one of these to your Jeep, imho, is that unless you have heavy aftermarket bumpers that can support the focused pressure of a hi-lift nose with a lower surface to accommodate the hi-lift's nose and let it grab and/or substantial rock sliders with nice level lower surfaces, this thing is not going to be very useful with a TJ. If you need to change a wheel, it doesn't to you much good to have to lift the Jeep by the wheel- even if you can find something quasi-acceptable to stick under the axle. Since I have a stock front bumper and a rear bumper with an angle to the lower surface, I've been carrying a low-profile "racing style" floor jack with the wheels removed and a piece of 3/8" plate welded to the bottom to make it more durable, along with a jack stand. There are way more points to lift from with this style of jack and it's not as precarious. As far as winching and spreading with a jack.... why do that when I have a 10,000 lb. winch and snatch blocks? I also continue to carry the stock bottle jack, which is in fact useful. When you're good and stuck on something- regardless of whether you have larger than stock tires- that something tends to be fairly close to the bottom of the Jeep somewhere or other....

Another trick for the old farm jack I have used, though likely will be frowned on by some, and must be used with a little common sense, is to use it to jack up the front or back, such as out of a rut, then push one way or the other out of the rut. Used this technique many times way back in the hills where all I had was a bumper jack. Used it lately with a hi low to move the front end of a car over that was to far one way in the drive way after we got it off the trailer and I decided it really was in the way as it was. You don't have to get it very high, and you push from the side so you are out of the way the jack. Never had the jack do anything radical, but safety first. Certainly not best practice, but something perhaps to keep in mind.

I've had to this before back in the 80's an early 90's. That poor Ramcharger, use the come-a-long to winch it side ways. I only had 35's and tried to go where people were running 44's. Top of the Jack-All through the back window once when the load shifted.

WD-40 is not a lubricant, it is a water dispersant. WD-40 also attracts dust. Also noted you said the HI-Lift is rated to 4.6k lbs. My Jeep is at least 4.7k lbs. Is this where the tested number comes in?
@jasonrodriguez3617
@jasonrodriguez3617 5 лет назад
I doubt anyone will lift the entire vehicle with the jack. If your total vehicle weight is 4.7k and you lift the front or back, then you're only lifting about half of the vehicles weight.

Before anyone asks.... do NOT buy the piece of garbage from Harbor Freight! You will die using that worthless crap. Northern Tool has a good farm jack... (base doesn't come off) & there are some others including the " official " Hi Lift. Tractor Supply is another good place to shop for these. 98: A good "hi-jack" (?) will lift a 50hp tractor or implements no sweat... IF it is a GOOD farm jack. Just avoid the Harbor Freight scrap metal - it really is unsafe. You can make a good baseplate for the farm jack with a piece of flat scrap steel with holes drilled in it to match the holes in the farm jack's base. (Ya was wondering what those holes were for, weren't cha? :) ) Bolt the flat base onto the farm jack base & you have a wider load bearing surface which is handy in muck / soft soil. You can loosely bolt this on & have some flexibility on sloped surfaces but don't get crazy with that. Lift straight up... straight down... and be aware if it can slip out from under the frame - IT WILL.
@Se7enAte
@Se7enAte 8 лет назад
The Harbor Freight ones really aren't even that much cheaper. Theres really no reason to get one from there. I always like to get tools from there that aren't mission critical or power tools. Basic hand tools are fine
@Le_Comte_de_Monte_Felin
@Le_Comte_de_Monte_Felin 8 лет назад
Se7enAte Yeah, same here. Have a ton of stuff from them but NOT one of their farm jacks. It really is a dangerous piece of manure... not safe to use and I'd be afraid it would give me tetanus just laying in a corner.
@Se7enAte
@Se7enAte 8 лет назад
Dwayne Do you know if their normal hydraulic floor jacks are any good? I'm in the market for one
@Le_Comte_de_Monte_Felin
@Le_Comte_de_Monte_Felin 8 лет назад
The ones they had years ago were all it took for me. I bought a good one after seeing a HF floor jack a friend had. They start out ok... then in a short period of use start dropping FAST instead of lowering slowly - jack your car up..... DROP IT THE F DOWN FAST. No slow lowering after a while so no.... I'd pay $15 more at a local autoparts store / etc & get one you won't die under. I will give them credit for their jackstands. Hard to mess up hunks of cast iron - they work well and I would not get under a vehicle using ANY kind of jack without jackstands. (Yeah - I know... trail means you use rocks, stumps and your little brother...)

On my 99 Dodge 1500 I just used scrap 2", angle iron, that I notched out to sit flush with the top of the truck bed. The front mount sits flush and is bolted to the upper flange of the box side. and tack welded to the floor bed. Rear mount is the same, but with a chunk of 1/4" plate welded for the jack base to bolt up to. One of the base plate holes has a lock in it. It straddles the passenger rear wheel well. Front upright has a 1/2" bolt welded to it, that the riser goes through, rear support has a plate that the base bolts to. It was built cheap, hated cutting the angle, at the bottom of the angle iron to match the curve on the box floor. It worked out great, no rattles, I'm going to do the same for the '80 Powerwagon.

It's so big... I think I will settle on a tire plug kit that will get me to the nearest service center instead. Even if you don't get under it, I don't think it would be very safe to even take a wheel off while it's on one of these jacks.

What do you drive, a deuce and a half? A Hi-Lift is good for at least 3.5 tons, and don't forget you're only lifting (at most) half of your vehicle's weight at a time since you'll still have 2 or 3 wheels on the ground.

land rover stock its just over 3tons and with full kit its around 4+tons but according to this high lift jacks are only rated to 2tons but tested at 3.5 you never want to run till a tested weight and always go by the rated weight which a full kitted xj or zj would easily be tipping the scale on these and should not be used imo unless you use it in on one tire on the side opposite of the other tire putting it anywhere else and you would most likely be going beyond the rated weight. and can be dangerous.

Awesome, what not to do and why you do not do it. That way you know what you are getting into if you decide to do it anyways, unless you can rearrange things. You are messing with the weight of your vehicle. A mishap means getting punched by a gorrilla the size of that vehicle.
