I am back with another episode of meal planning for the guinea pigs! In this video, I will be talking about Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and stones in guinea pigs. One of my piggies, Peanut, got sick few years ago. I'll be sharing some information about the sickness, like how kidney stones form and how we can minimize bacterial infection. Plus, I'll provide another recipe that might help decrease the chance of your cavy getting the disease. Get your cucumbers and yellow bell peppers ready!

Another tip is to wash their veggies and not completely dry them. That way, they get extra water, especially if what you’re feeding doesn’t have a high water content.

Depends if you are using tap water, or distilled water to wash vegetables. They should never be drinking tap water unless you have a really good water filter and water softer for the hardness.

Handfeeding and hide the food around the cage is how we normally feed them here. The first piece is given by hand and the rest gets spread out. They have a lot of fun and we can see that they learn. They check the most used places before looking around, which is kinda fun to watch :)

I am already feeding my guinea pigs that diet. I’m glad to know that I am on the right track. My piggies love it when I put hay in a cardboard box and hide a bunch of veggies in it.

I always have the worst anxiety that I'm not feeding my guinea pigs the best possible meals but these videos really allayed my fears! If Guinea Dad is feeding his piggies the same stuff I am, I'm obviously doing okay ^.^

Can you do an entire list of healthy every day meals for average guinea pigs, I stress so much about what TO give them, how much, what combinations and so on. This video and the last one were super helpful. It would be awesome if you were able to provide a few meal plans that would be good every day meals for the average guinea pig, on that doesn't have any specifically special dietary needs. We just got ours 2 weeks ago, I know they are cabbies but I don't know how young and I read about the calcium intake and stones and now to know babies need MORE calcium, I'm just stressed about it. A special meal plans section on your website would be so amazing, I'm sure your very busy but I think it would really help guinea pigs and new owners around the world! Thank you for all you do, we love your liners by the way!

Thank you for your suggestion. Actually, these are what we only give them as it's the safest meal plan we can come up with. Also, have you checked a couple of meal plans we have provided in all 3 episodes?

Thank you for these recipes! I give my piggies bell peppers and lettuce every day. I alternate green beans and celery. Same with cucumber and carrot. They love spinach, but it is a rare treat because of the high calcium.

Yay so excited! Can’t waif to watch it!!! My piggies are soooooo close to eating a different veggie than carrots! I am trying to get them to eat Bell Pepper and they seem REALLY interested in it and take tiny little nibbles and GuineDad had helped me a lot with getting them to eat veggies

My piggies love to eat Celery, Carrots, Italian Parsley, their pellets, hay, and the occasional Cheerio/pea flake as a treat, but they are slowly starting to eat Cucumber, Pepper, Cabbage, and a few more healthy foods. They also love to eat dandelion shoots.

I love these recipes!!! My piggy had a UTI last fall. We brought her to the vet because she sounded like she was in pain when she Peed. I’m definitely going to feed this recipe quite a bit now to help prevent them!!! I love these recipes please make more!!!! My piggies love the rainbow mix!! Thanks!!

Hey @guineadad im glad i saw this video before i saw this there was really limited info on a proper diet /calcium and balanced diet info in the youtube guineapig community , my question is what do you think of this meal plan i made for my 3 boys Monday- small amount of cilantro and greenpeppers along with edive Tue- 3 pieces of green leaf lettuce and 1 piece of baby carrot Wed- Riddichio and a small amount of red pepper Thurs- Red leaf lettuce and 1-2 slices of cucumber Fri- Romaine lettuce and 1 small piece of apple Sat- Yellow pepper and edive Sun- Green leaf lettuce , 1 small baby tomatoe and 2 strings of parsley And these portions are for 1 pig each like the leafy veggies i only give then 3 leafs each and they all get a vitamin c supplement ,unlimited 1st cut timothy hay, forage once in a while and peaflakes aswell, my main goal is to make sure they dont bloat or get stones and was wondering am i going about this diet right? If it helps ive been doing it for about a year and a half and there adults. Thank you again for the great content i hope to hear from you

I feel really bad for my Guinea pigs because I have only been cleaning them once a day and I am not able to clean the tiny hay pieces at the bottom of their cage. I hope they don't get sick because I love them too much.

Their pee is very white and milky which I read is an excess of calcium. The woods having I put turn brown which I’m assuming is from their pee. Should I be worried? I read online that it happens but shouldn’t be a daily occurrence but every time I clean or spot clean, the shavings are brown

Based on comment that you left on another video, it looks like you are feeding a lot of high calcium veggies - spinach, kale etc. Switch to something like red leaf or green leaf lettuce for greens. Definitely add bell pepper. If they don't like it, still continue to do it until they get used to it. It's the best vegetable for guinea pigs when it comes to vitamin C.

My guinea pigs do not like bell peppers, nor berries and do not drinking water.. i have tried almost everything, most popular will stay cucumber and leaf vegetables, as well as grass, they also do eat zuccini, celler, apple, watermelon and carrot, but it is not their “prime” and if they do not have good mood, they will left theese veges-fruits unnoticed

Surest way is to talk to a professional - exotic vet. I believe they usually gently feel their stomach and listen to determine.

I always say "veggies" before I give them any veggies. So now all my piggies know the word "veggies"! No matter where they hide in the floor time, as long as I say "veggies", they will all rush to me 😆
