I'm not austrailian (Texas born and raised) but I do like to 4 wheel, but I have never seen such a thing as this. Incredible driving, incredible rigs, and plenty of entertaining and informative content. Since returning from a Feburary Big Bend backcountry camp trip to a COVID locked down world I have been watching your enormous back log of youtube videos almost daily (sometimes 2 X a day). I might not be an Austrailian 4 wheeler, but I watched 4WD action yesterday so I can now drive anything and fix anything that is broken. lol Love you guys, started planning an Austrailia trip for 2025 just from watching your awesome videos. I've got 5 years to prep for it and let the economy recharge. Is it even possible to rent a 4WD to drive on some of your "mild tracks"? Cheers, keep up the content!!!
Feel bad for Aussies 15 years late to the party and getting financially violated too. Get custom map in UK for couple hundred quid. That guy is cringe talking about "tuning" he was out of his depth at ..injector. What's injector fire🤣?
If you knew that what the manufacturers designed the vehicle for then you would understand that power (work) directly relates back to wear and failure rate. The 79 was designed for harder use at the upper end of its GVM and towing capacity and hence why power is purposely lower than what you might expect for a larger engine as comparing to a vehicle that’s more orientated to cruising the family up and down the highway with the occasional trailer that was clearly designed for less work. Manufacturers ultimately balance what the vehicle is designed to do with the power output to ensure a long life. Even comparing two vehicles with the same engine as the 79 and 200 series you will find that the 200 has another turbo to increase air to create the ability to add more fuel for power. The average person and what the 200 series was designed for is carting people in comfort up and down the highway with the occasional trailer and hence not expected that it will work as hard as the 79 that’s designed to be loaded up and used hard in industry which will increase the wear and failure rate. Contrary to popular belief, the same engine that is designed for harder use should have a lower power output than one used for less as it all relates back to wear and failure rate. If you want something to last longer and hence have less wear and less chance of failure then it’s as simple as lowering the power output it can do.
@Julz De I think you may be the one who’s high if you think the vdj “lasts forever” the engine themselves are solid but there’s inherent problems with pretty much every component that bolts onto them.
I've got a 2018 MQ Triton Exceed and took it to Ultimate Diesel Tune and the results I had are almost identical to the results you guys showed here - demonstrates consistency. Ultimate were really good at asking me what I use it for now and what I want to use it for including future mods. Thankfully I'm not carrying any tradie boxes on the back and I'm not wanting a muscle 4x4 either. I love how it performs now even when I'm not towing my 14ft offroad campervan. I compared some prices but half of them never called me back so Ultimate got my business based on 95% of your recommendation Shauno!! Bloody legend mate! It's almost got me wanting to do the Cape!
@@UltimateDieselTuning Can I just ask, once my vehicle has had a custom tune, and I want to play it safe and disconnect it when I go for services at dealer, is it $1500 everytime to reupload the same tune ? Without the dyno run which is not needed ?
You talk about safe power and dynos but you fail to mention that you have grossly exceeded the maximum torque specifications for both the clutch and gearbox for that landcruiser. Without the relevant upgrades which cost thousands of dollars your actually doing more harm than good. 600nm feels great until something goes pop.
They are typical gains that most custom dyno tuners achieve with 70 Series Cruisers. The drivelines & gearboxes on them are very strong, never had any issues. However, the clutch must be replaced with an upgraded heavy-duty item, but that's all - the other OEM parts handle the extra torque fine.
Just never tow anything heavy in 5th gear unless on level ground at light throttle. Lugging in 5th with say a big van up an incline letting the torque do the work isn't good. If you take it easy esp when towing the gearbox will be fine.
Been running 650nm and 165kw at the wheels on my 79 for over 260,000km (since new) alot of very heavy towing and offroad driving. Nothings gone pop yet! Except my wallet everytime i fill up with diesel....
I've heard some horror stories about dyno tunes gone wrong, customers left with paper weights and a large bill. How do Ultimate Diesel Tuning work with helping out a customer should a tune result in a blown motor? Will you re-tuned it for free once the motor has been repaired? I know you say you do a pre-tune inspection. But even doing everything right, you can't plan for a motor dropping a valve or blowing a piston whilst on the dyno. After-sales service is one of those things often overlooked. So would love to know your policy around this. Cheers
We custom dyno tune within the factory safety parameters set by the manufacturer. We also have our own warranty as well. For further information, please contact us so we can go over it with you!
@@user-hf3rq1dg9d Of course there are factory safety parameters one must NEVER exceed unless the goal is to create a hand grenade. For instance, excessively high EGT is a death sentence.
I had my 200 series ECT and ECU remapped, the best thing I ever did. Went from 142.3 kw atw to 178.4 kw atw close enough to 25% improvement. Torque improved by 25% too. The ECT now drops into 6th at 80 Kmh and I’m pulling 1500 rpm at 100 km/h. Economy has also improved both when towing and unladen. It goes like a scalded cat.
In combustion engines, power is the mathematical product of torque and angular velocity (=RPM). Since Diesel engines have a natural RPM limit due to the way combustion works, the only way to get more power is to increase torque.
Ultimate diesel Brisbane wouldn't touch any vehicle with 300km on the odometer and charge alot, took my n70 lux to another tuner in Rocklea and the guys we're awesome went over the whole engine for health before working on it recommended some tweaks over the phone came back to pick it up made double the power that was in it and charged less than half of ultimate diesel 🤙
@@xotic8617 our shorty with a stock standard TD42 and auto on 35s lays down 54kw at the wheels, a 4.5 turbo v8 with common rail should be more than a 50% power increase over an old forklift powered troll.
@@xr6tgtx737 tyre size does make a difference, but the rolling resistance from 33s to 35s is not enough to see a decrease of 30hp and 80nm. Majority of the time the gearing is how you calculate the loss of power in the translation to it reaching the tires.
1. I bought a chip 2. I never get it dyno 3. I was never ask about my engine 4. I have done my research 5. I never wanted more power, i bought it for fuel economy, mrs not very happy how much the diesel prices haha.
Its also about where the power comes in, in the rev range. The cruiser has max power right through. Where as the Triton doesn't kick in until around 2.5- 3 grand. Which is super sluggish when your towing and taking off from stand still. I have a 79 series and a 2018 Triton, and they are not comparable
Heyy Shauno and Graham. Big 4wd Action and diesel fan here. 05’ model Rodeo long wheel base 3.0itd with 350k on the clock and only had to replace the battery and alternator once. Love watching the dmax and 0$Suk lines through gnarly tracks! Just wondering if you guys could chat a bit about the vis system you guys use? Is the app similar? If I purchase the app will it run off satellite nav or my data? Are there saved preset 4wd tracks in the software? Cheers, Taz
Very informative, but sounded like an advertisement for Ultimate Diesel Tuning towards the end. I'm scepitical about ALL of the discussed upgrades, in particular what happens if the engine in a new vehicle fails and the warranty is voided. Will the Chip supplier/ECU Tuner repair the engine? Will they offer a warranty on the drivetrain for the life of the factory warranty? Lastly, Shaun if what UDT offers is so safe have YOU had them tune/upgrade ALL 3 of your vehicles?, what about Grahams D-Max? I think this should be an HONEST discussion for the next Beers in the Shed.
Most tuners will offer their own warranty, like we do. Unsure about what type of warranties the chip brands supply. And yes we have remapped Shauno's 79 Series so far!
I luv this information,so many people listen to there mate or mate of a friend that knows how to tune & boast your car. Also it doesn't say much for DC chip plug & play !!! As you say every car is different even it's the same make & model 👍👍👍
Love the show guys. Two things come to mind, sorry haven't read all the comments - may have already been answered. Anyway, 1 - won't a custom tune invalidate your engine warranty? and 2 - during routing servicing when the ecu is usually updated, will the remap software get erased?
1. no it won't, it's illegal for a dealership or manufacturer to void the warranty of a vehicle due to a custom dyno tune/ecu remap. 2. yes it will - however we save & keep everyone's tune files for this reason, they are easily re-loaded into your ECU again without having to go back on the dyno!
For more info, Im living in Middle East jordan I have toyota hilux 2021 diesel, during last week im visit racing dimensions to get tune for my truck but before that I went to agent to ask to ask him if I have tune on my truck still there is warranty, he saying Sorry noo
Nice info-mercial. You have me interested. Couple of questions, how do you dyno full time 4x4's? What sort of gains can be expected out of an Everest 2ltr bi-turbo? Cheers...
On a 4WD dyno - we have 4WD dynos installed at all of our workshops. Currently, the factory ECUs in the 2litre Everests/Rangers/Raptors are unable to be remapped. We get around this by fitting a supplementary ECU to it, which then gives us full control over the ECU & allows us to custom dyno tune it. Results vary from car to car as we do custom dyno tune every vehicle individually depending on what the car is used for & how the owner would like it tuned. On one of the 2Litre bi turbo engines, expect from a 20% gain in power & torque upwards.
Ultimate Diesel Tuning, what is your experience in regards to new cars voiding warranty? I 2 have a biturbo Everest and every dealer has told me kiss my warranty Goodby. Do you guys provide any guarantee that it won’t effect my warranty??
No such word as safe, age is one factor but what about maximum load each part can take? Manufacturers tune everything that is safe and reliable (for the most part) from the get go and when you add timing, boost and fuel you're putting strain in the engine that it wasn't designed for. I would only tune a engine if its been rebuilt with better internals that can handle the power gains. I would wonder what these tunes do to newer 4wds with all the anti pollution systems in place ( DPF issues is the single thing stopping me for getting a 4wd and I'm waiting for the newer petrol versions that are meant to be coming out )
"one factor but what about maximum load each part can take?" THis is a really relevant question and one that I would love to see an answer to. With torque increases of upto 135% (mind blowing) the additional engine and driveline stresses have to go somewhere. Yes standard engines are detuned, yes each engine and drive-line part has an inbuilt safety tolerance......but 135% of additional torque.... Can UDT please respond to this exact question please.
@@topherrex4632 no issues so far mate & we tune a lot of these cars per week. Common rail turbo diesel engines are obviously severely restricted in power & torque by the manufacturer.
Damn that’s some piss weak numbers out of the triton I’m pushing 500nm and 138kw ATW at the moment and have been for the last two years they can take so much more.
Harry Whitehouse I can understand a lower power tune for reliability but for towing you would want as much power on tap one would have thought and you should be able to achieve that with good AFRs after a solid tune.
Fail to see why people buy chips or a remap but don't go to the dyno and then wonder why they have issues. Get it done right the first time custom tune is the only way

I have had my Hilux tuned by Ultimate diesel in Dandenong, I highly recommend using them to get the power and torque out of your 4wd. They really do care about your vehicle and make you 100% aware of any potential problems pre tune, I spent $5500 to get great numbers out of my Hilux, in this they also found my injectors to be leaking and in need of replacement. All round they have helped me discover the true potential from my 4wd and have done so safely and without any unnecessary nonsense. Thank you Ultimate Tuning Dandenong!
Are services inherently more expensive there in Australia? I live in Las Vegas USA, and I spent $500 bucks for a dyno tune on my vehicle. $5500!? Did they do a complete rebuild for you? That's obscenely expensive for tuning. $5500 bucks would upgrade both turbos on my truck (3.5 ecoboost), or upgrade to a Whipple 3.4 for my car.
Hey guys, the custom dyno tune did NOT cost David $5500. We also carried out an on-car chemical soot clean to his 4WD & also replaced all injectors (which are very expensive as you will know). Just thought we'd clear that up!
Not a fan of the drop in files and go from ultimate. There not custom to your own car they develop them on test cars and apply them to each vehicle. Custom tuned is fresh file every car and tuned there and then with kess or titanium or what ever software the tuners use. Custom is done on fresh files Flash and go is what the ultimate franchise do from what I have been told from an x employee
Hey mate, we never do "drop & go" files, we custom dyno tune/ECU remap every car properly at all of our workshops. It will 100% be performed & tailored to suit YOUR vehicle/engine. We are also not a franchise mate. We have 3 stores - Melbourne, Brisbane & on the Gold Coast. We also have dealers around Australia that we custom dyno tune remotely for (live on their dynos) & also dealers in NZ & Fiji. Cheers mate.
@@UltimateDieselTuning Hi UDT, as stated you've got dealers in Fiji, could you please tell me more about how exactly vehicles will be custom tuned here? As per my knowledge there is no Dyno in Fiji.
As a diesel mechanic of 20 years. The most reliable engine is a stock engine tune. Catch cans are fine but the manufacturer takes many things into consideration when tuning the cars. My opinion leave it alone unless you do things properly.
I don't understand what is the point of tuning a 4wd . Your rigs are not powerful enough at low gears? Or you drive your lifted trucks with mud tires at 200 + km/h on the highway ? 200hp vehicle will stay in the mud hole, but 220hp will manage to go out? I am not a tunning hater, my car is tuned but i really dont see any reason to do that to my 4wd.
On these mechanical diesels you fuel according to the boost pressure the turbo can create. You're starting with the right recipe there, just note the stock CT26 is only good for 15psi reliably. I've you want quicker spool and more boost you'll have to go for a Gturbo which has been designed specially for these engines. ALWAYS check your EGT's pre turbo and make sure to never exceed 700C for long periods of time. Not every tuning shop knows how to properly tune these diesel motors so make sure you do your research before hand. If they don't measure AFR and EGTs when tuning I'd stay clear away.
I have an 05 RA Rodeo with 90,000km. Has Isuzu 3L diesel 4JH1-TC front mount non-commonrail and 4spd auto. Makes 98kw at the flywheel - would be nice not to slow down up hills or in a strong wind! What kind of safe power gains could you guys achieve?
Hey guys just a general question. You talk about the 70 series chip putting alot of pressure on the fuel system due to the increase in pressure, and thats with a 35%/50% increase. Why does the tune not put the same if not more pressure on the system or other systems when you have a much higher increase with 77%/135%? Cheers
It’s not all fuel related there’s timing boost the hole fuel table gets tweaked as well as injector pulse how they fire and a lot more I’m sure. Just going off 0 experience to but I’m sure the fuel pressure is still way up there for the vid but with the tune they are making the power more efficient over just throwing fuel at it a tune you will have a cleaner burn better better power for the fuel your using just adding fuel will soot the internals a lot quicker and kill your dfp before your next service if you have one still
Is it a good idea to get a chip in my 3.0 D4D Hilux? Just keep in mind my vehicle is only 2x4 and I'm situated in south Africa.. So I'm purely just looking for more power without damaging anything

So here i Kenya, the tuning scene is not great. I don't have access to a top quality tuner who would give me good safe power. What would you suggest in that respect considering i may have to do a remote tune?
@@UltimateDieselTuning so your saying that if any part of a new vehicle's engine or driveline fails, and the dealership openly knows that its putting out 50% more power and torque through a tune, that they will happily supply a replacement engine gearbox or differential at the manufacturers expense, all through warranty?
I reckon my ML was flogged before I got it. Only had 112,000km on it but had a new clutch put in before I bought it and just had all injectors start leaking and playing up. I wonder if it was flash tuned or had a chip running in it to affect those injectors so early.

Thanks Shaun for getting me onto this mob, it was from the video of the 1000 buck track. Got a $200 discount too, bonus 👍👍 thanks mate. Got my Hilux 2017 sr5 done. I got it done by Andrew, from the Dandenong branch. It’s done 90k plus k’s, been averaging 10.5/100 pre tune, post tune 8.8/100- 9.1/100, amazing benefits. I absolutely love how the vehicle can accelerate and the rev gauge just sits on around 2k and sometimes even drops in revs slightly, while accelerating in speed. I decided to do a tune for fuel consumption reasons and not power reasons. However, vehicle now looses traction when I tow my trailer up hills on take off, it has never done that while towing in the past. I can not believe the fuel saving. When I get my next lux, I’m getting it done from the time the dealer hands me the key. Unfortunately, my intake was fairly dirty, so there was an additional cost to do a chemical clean to the intake manifold, all good though. Very happy with my tune, and highly recommended.
Yes. And in fact the ECU is calibrated to keep a balance and when you increase the rail pressure, it will adjust all other parameters. Now I am oversimplifying the whole process, but without increasing the tolerances, the ECU can adjust only that much. It's not perfect, but it works. :) ..... until it doesn't... lol Altering the initial mapping one way or another reduces engine's lifespan more or less.
generally injector duration is changed to allow more fuel instead of rail pressure increases. this way the pump is not working any harder. also boost is increased as fuel is added to keep the afr acceptable to avoid clogging DPFs. off the shelf tunes are in most cases ok as they are generally done by the company that makes the tuning hardware but its a bit hit and miss as this isnt always the case and results will be less than optimal as they are detuned to be on the safe side.
@@kristingeorgiev3295 It really depends on each engine, and everyone should do their research well before a remap. There are engines out there massively undertuned. Like mine, 2.0 tdci Mondeo, it comes in 3 variants of 115, 140 and 163hp with the exact same engine, different factory maps. I had mine in 163 variant (160 on the dyno) and it's nearly 190 after a stage 1 with the torque from 365 to 410. Nothing special for a safe and smoke free stage 1. But imagine when someone gets a stage 1 for the same engine, but they start off from the 115hp variant :))) you get like 70% gains and EVERYONE will tell you it's going to blow. In fact guys with a stage 2 and higher are running just fine with 250hp on the same engine.
If that happens & it can easily happen, we will just load your tune file into your ECU again free of charge & it only takes a few minutes to do! And they shouldn't void your warranty.
The fuel economy is supposed to improve since you have more low down power which means that the engine does not work as hard to keep you cruising at say 80 on the highway as compared to a pre tune

So i have a questions and i need someone to educate me. I have a 2010 Nissan Navara 2.5 DCI, and i am the 2ed owner. I have started experiencing issues with my bakkie! I would be driving normally and all of a sudden, my bakkie would stall. At times when i start the engine, my bakkie would stall, and sometimes when i put my bakkie in reverse, it would stall. I took my bakkie for repairs (140000 KM) and it seems like i have had no issues after that. However, i have to spend R13000 ($1111.95) on my engine alone, and additional R19600 ($1676.47) on my steering rack and rear suspension. I think it's a a rip off! I never fixed a car/bakkie before, but i am really willing to learn. Is there someone who can perhaps help me and Guide Me?

A lot of skeptics as to why engines are under tuned, and if the manufacturer knows better to stick to their power figures. Of course this is not the case for all engines, but regarding the ones that are under tuned, you have to imagine that the car in general has to also be driven by your mom, your kid, or anyone else that has no idea on how it works, riding the clutch, using the wrong gears, flooring it from cold, using poor quality fuel etc. And then you also have to convince them it's cheap to run, by telling them to service it every 20k km or more. That is one of the main reasons manufacturers have to play it as safe as possible, so that it can be advertised as cheap to run and last for all types of drivers...or at least they have to try. If you know how to drive and properly take care of your engine, a 20-25% power increase with a custom dyno tune done professionally, is still within the safe limits of the engine and transmission, and it will last as well as stock. Unless you abuse it, in which case you can brake it without a remap to :)
