I was in Physical Therapy for a neck issue and the PT used a neck decompression device that was much larger and automated. It would decompress neck and back depending on how they set it up. I had such good results that I told him I wanted one for my home as a joke. A week later, He gave me one of the devices you just demonstrated that he ordered for me through the major medical portion of my health insurance. It didn't cost me anything. I've been using it at home, as needed, for five years. The device works great and is simple to use. It's worth checking your insurance before purchasing one.

I used traction and chin tucked as hard as possible. Took a long time. Finally, relocated my C-1. It wasn't easy. I don't see this device having enough traction. I'd recommend an Air Brace and Pillow. At least it has the right angle. More traction and hard core chin tucks and you might get it back in. It seriously hurts and your growth pattern is messed up. That Hump is just one of the results of C-1 Dislocation. Messing with your dislocation might bring on the Seizures. If, you have Seizures it may be from C-1 Dislocation.

@gigilaroux762

I totally agree. At the same time I am learning that to get to that area everything above it needs space to move to because of gravity. I plan on doing decompression of some sort and afterward doing some neck PT exercises and then keep building up some new muscle tone to help the neck posture stabilize, and eventually it will keep more space there. Sometimes it can take many months.

I clench and grind my teeth and get a lot of muscle pain just down below my ear (never mind the odd broken tooth) Also, quite severe muscle spasms in my neck, which because they happen so close to the nerve cluster there, go into one side of my tongue, literallyone half of my head. I'm on dosulipin for this although I want to come off that. Going to be keeping an eye on these videos now I've found them, see if there is anything for tmj muscle pain etc.
@Joegengstah
@Joegengstah 4 года назад
Have you tried supplementing with magnesium? Its responsible for relaxing muscles, and a defeciency will cause muscles to spasm or tense up, including grinding your teeth. It can also cause inflammation because of tightness among many other symptoms. I would look into magnesium supplementation along with deep cervical neck flexor strengthening- which would both reduce the activity of the scalenus, SCM and upper traps and reduce nerve pressure at the back of your neck and the sides (thoracic outlet). Also work on your neck posture, if you have forward head posture, where your neck is not aligned or ears are not above your shoulder, it will cause compensation and overload of your neck muscles- and nerves will not be happy either. (poor muscle health=poor nerve health). Muscles most often spasm becuase of weakness or overload, which essentially is the same thing. Resting them will not resolve any issues, but strengthening them has a high success rate. Strengthen your neck muscles, deep cervical neck flexors primarily but all will help. Isometric exercises and resisted chin tucks are reccomended. It will ensure the postural muscles that keep your neck aligned work as intended, and help other muscles relax more when they are no longer required to do a job they are not intented to do (stabilization of neck). Also you can google "triggerpoints tmj pain" and you should find the muscles that can refer pain and cause tmj. If you find any tender spots, use oil and massage them and work them out, they will go away eventually if you work on them regularly on top of strengthening your neck muscles. ~Hope you find relief. I have to say guys there is a much overlooked manipulation called the ystrap....or full axial decompression. It is THE thing to get as it surpasses the manual or other device tractions. I'll wager that many times the neck pains one feels can be permananetly fixed with the ystrap instead of trying to get the slow decompression of other modalities. It hurt me more to do the slow way but it was effect to do the quick forceful full to fix the problem Every chirpractor should learn and do it !

@soundbalancephysicaltherap6849
@soundbalancephysicaltherap6849 4 года назад
Traction usually is helpful for bulging discs. It can help "pull" them back in sometimes. But very large central disc bulges are a "contraindication". So you're probably good to go, but check your MRI and proceed with caution.

@soundbalancephysicaltherap6849
@soundbalancephysicaltherap6849 4 года назад
There are "contraindications" (never do) and "precautions" (be cautious and make a good decision). ACDF and any other fusion is more of a precaution. You should wait at least a year and then consult with your physician. You want to know what hardware was used, how well the fusion held, if anything is unstable, etc. There are two main risks with using traction after ACDF. 1. It's possible it makes your fusion come loose. 2. It's possible that the spinal level above and below become too loose. Both these risks are relatively low based on the small forces involved (usually under 30 pounds of pressure while the head itself weighs 12-15 pounds). But they are risks. You need to know your specific details to know how large the risk is and if you are comfortable with those risks. So you could proceed with caution and be sure to start light and stop if you have any pain.

The idea is exactly the same as an inversion table. But hanging upside down rarely gets enough traction for your neck and many people can't tolerate hanging upside down even a little bit. Can work great for backs, though (if you can tolerate being angled downwards).

I have one of these with mixed results. I was wondering if having the head pushed forward because it is on an angle is a good thing. When a PT person pulls on the head the neck is straight and the patient's ears are in line with the shoulders. But with this device, the patient's ears are forward of the shoulders more in that head forward position that can be so bad for one's neck.
@brankelly1921
@brankelly1921 3 года назад
Yeah I have the same question - because ' forward head posture ' seems to be a real issue in most of us, and this angle only further pushes the neck forward. As you said, the ears are supposed to be in line with shoulders and neck should be in lordosis.
@tomslick2058
@tomslick2058 Год назад
@@brankelly1921 depends were the problem is. Every injury or arthritis is different. Usually looking down a bit opens nerves up. But not all the time. Looking up is no good. Straight back might be better. You can adjust the incline on the Saunders..

Have your parents get you yo a physical therapist, dont look down at phone/screens, dont sit in bed, watch your posture, keep head up and work on correct sleeping positions. Eat anti inflammatory diet to curb out any inflammation. But dont give up on getting your parents to get you the help you need- go to physical therapy and keep your head up and dont look down while reading or screentime. Bring books or screen to eye level. :)

@@larson511 I second this, very good advice. When you lay in bed, try to make sure your neck is aligned with the spine. When on your back, dont use too many pillows that would make your head propped up or bent forward. When on your side, make sure your neck is aligned (not angled up or down too much) . Maybe you need to use 2 thinner pillows or 1 thick one when on your side to accomplish this. And as this guy said, be careful about looking down too much, keep your chin tucked when you need to look down so that your head is not coming forward too much. You might also want to do exercises to strengthen the "deep cervical neck flexors", it helps many in reducing neck pain. Maybe get a physical therapist or family member to show you how its done and see if it helps you. The pain is only temporary and you will get better by following the proper steps. Good luck and stay healthy :)

C5-C6 bulge against the spinal cord instead of a pinched nerve. Ever seen Saunders cervical traction unit fix that kind of bulge?

A "large central disc herniation" is contraindicated for this machine. It could make it worse and in extreme cases cause paralysis. So if it's pushing on your spinal cord you should seek professional help first!

You need to know your specific details (how stable and how loose) to know how large the risk is and if you are comfortable with those risks. So you could proceed with caution and be sure to start light and stop if you have any pain.

I am hopeless. For 3 months I have a permanent ticking, grinding noise in the center of my neck when i look to the left.. I tried the physiotherapist, chiropractor. No results. The noise is loud inside my head and ruining my quality of life. I did not have an accident or anything. It occurred overnight. If anyone has any solution/advice please comment.

Get an x-ray. Preferably an MRI as it looks at muscle tissue, joints and ligaments. See your family doctor for a referral to see chiropractor n Physical therapist as well.

Could work, but generally where there is higher force there is more risk. Also set up is easier with the Saunders unit.
