-WARNING - DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME
Every day, about 2,000 people endure job-related eye injuries that are serious enough to require medical treatment. It’s estimated that 90% of these injuries could be prevented by wearing proper eye protection.
Safety glasses in the US have to be stamped with the ANSI code Z87 to protect against hazards of the workplace like impact, heat, liquid splash, and dust.
Today, we’re going to do something fun and test out 3 different types of glasses commonly worn to show differences in performance? Why? Because it’s fun.
#1 - Dust Test
Most eye injuries occur when small, flying particles get in your eye and cause an abrasion. We put sticky substances on the eye of each dummy. Let’s check out how each pair of glasses perform in protecting against dusts.
#2 - High Impact Test
Some of the most serious injuries come from fast-moving objects like the fragments of a broken grinding wheel. You want your glasses to be shatter proof and protect against projectiles. If your glasses have a “+” sign next to the Z87, it means they’re rated for impacts. These have the plus sign, so let’s see how they do against a nail gun.
3 - Broad impact
Just as often, eye injuries are also from broad impacts, like a wrench being dropped from above while working vehicles or equipment. Let’s see how our glasses do.
Wear the right protection to guard against eye injuries.
