“Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So get on your way!” - Dr. Seuss
We had 3 mountains waiting in this episode! After our incredible 20 hours at Devils Tower ( you can check out that video here: • YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU WA... ), we headed over our first mountain pass - The Big Horns, which means we were headed to the ranch!
For those who may be new here, this is a cattle ranch in Wyoming owned by family friends where we have come to help out every summer for the last 6 years.
This was a shorter than normal visit for us, so we focused on helping out around the property. We stacked hay, limbed some trees, patched up a bridge, and Corey made some amazing Maine lobster rolls for our Wyoming family! And we can’t leave out Lily catching a bat! 😳
Sharing our time at the ranch brings up some advice we have for those on the road full-time or planning to hit the road soon - you need to have anchor points. When you live in an RV full-time, you still feel that need for community, the need to invest in a place and to connect with others. It is why we started looking for volunteer opportunities as soon as we hit the road.
Looking for ways to give back led us to find places like the ranch and the Everglades Outpost and ultimately led to the creation of seRV With Purpose, the volunteer initiative that we started with our friends, @pawsforlove , and Lippert. If you are looking for places to give back and to connect with community, you can check out the seRV database here: servwithpurpose.com
These places became what we call our anchor points and are locations that we go back to yearly. They have become road traditions for our family and have grounded us and made us feel connected, allowing us to still contribute to communities we visit. We truly believe having these anchor points has made our travels and adventures even more exciting and have helped keep us from burn out.
If you are planning on hitting the road soon, what are some anchor points you could add to your itinerary throughout the year?
After leaving the ranch, we did something we have never done before. We crossed 2 massive mountain passes in one day - The Togwotee Pass and the Teton Pass. And if you have never crossed over the Teton pass from Jackson to Victor, it’s intense! 10% grade is no joke, so take it slow and watch those crazy curves! Keep following along through the end of this season as this is not the only time we cross this crazy 10% grade!
Stay tuned for next week as we take a ski lift up to a totally new view of the Grand Tetons! Be sure to like and subscribe and click on the bell icon for notifications when we release new video!
Don’t wait to live your life, find your 🔆SOMEDAY🔆 now!

Bats are the primary animal that carry rabies in Washington State where I live. I’m glad no one was infected and now you are aware. 👍🏼

Good job to Lilly. A well taught daughter in every way! She follows her heart bravely; she’ll do great things. My daughter Lindsey loves everything wild, adventurous, and humorous as well. And she receives her PhD in Genetics from CU Boulder this December. Great job raising 2 great daughters. - a Dad of 2 daughters.

Jake brakes are really useful. Lilly really shouldn't have touched that bat; it could've been sick, she could've been bit, and bats are responsible for spreading several really terrible diseases.

I agree. When I watched her touch the bat and picking it up I was just shaking head, thinking noooo! Especially since it was in a lighted area. They may be cute, but don’t touch them.
@scottmichaels6854
@scottmichaels6854 8 месяцев назад
Yeah, I couldn’t believe that they were encouraging her to touch and hold that bat. Even though there is treatment for rabies that prevents most deaths, bats are still the leading cause of death from rabies. It’s not just an episode of The Office
@marrtianchronicles5702
@marrtianchronicles5702 8 месяцев назад
Absolutely! They have such needle sharp teeth, people often don’t even realize they have been bit! A rancher had one fly and hit him in the chest, but because he had a down vest on, he didn’t think anything of it because he couldn’t even see a wound. He died of rabies! Whenever you encounter a bat, leave it be or if you are grazed by one, get the rabies protocol!!!

We went over that pass, Rt 16 from Buffalo to Ten Sleep 5 years ago in mid October. We got sucked in with all the signs to take Rt 16. Well, we proceeded over the mountains, and soon into the journey, we started to see snow flurries, then more, and more and more until the flurries were a downright whiteout. So we took our time, no problem. When we finally crested the pass and had to come down the mountain in about 3” of fresh snow without any road maintenance. I had to stop at the top, get out of the truck, gather my nerves (and check my shorts) before we continued on. Oh, I failed to mention we had our brand new (1st trip) Grand Design Imagine. Scared ****less, with Jake brake engaged, we crawled down the backside into Ten Sleep. We (specifically, I, as the driver) were never so happy to see dry roads again. But we made it safe and sound, saw lots of critters and we’ll/I will never forget Rt. 16 as long as I live. I really enjoy your channel, guys!

Another item people don’t keep in mind when they work their truck or motorhome how hot the turbo charger gets. So if you have a turbo diesel, always let it idle for a few minutes before you shut it down to allow the exhaust temperature to cool so you don’t Koch the oil on the bearings. I spent most of this summer in Idaho and it is beautiful just outside of West Yellowstone Montana. This was with a lot of friends that I have met on the road and it was fun.

Mt Rushmore at night was fabulous last month and we got to boondock at the foot of Devil's Tower in the campground there. Then went to the Wall on the Badlands and boondocked. Loved it all. Love seeing you at places we've been. Don't apologize for not being "live" on your videos. I'm impressed that you're as close to live as you are- you're not too far behind at all. I'm appreciative for your videos always and thank you for the incredible hard work!

Lovely video guys!! Quick comment from a video production guy, I loved the aerials of the truck and trailer coming down grades. I know how much effort it is to get those few seconds of screen tine. They looked amazing!!! As for anchor points we really have one at this time. That anchor point is San Diego. It's where Toni and I grew up, raised out children and ran our business for the last 20 years. We winter there to get work done for our clients, fill the bank account and head back out on the road.

We have close friends in western Wyoming, so we've been fortunate to visit that side of the state several times. Now that we finally have a travel trailer, we're venturing further east. We spent 10 days in Boulder in 2023 and, in 2024, we'll be in WY for a month - about a week each in Buffalo, Lander, Dubois and Boulder. Thanks!

It was good to release the bat quickly. Handling them causes a lot of stress. It is usually best to leave the creature alone until they move themselves.

I've only been to the Tetons once and definitely want to go back for at least a week stay. It is beautiful. Dash Cam. We don't have one but one of our sons goes to the Minneapolis area frequently for training for his job. He has one on his pickup. He had footage of a crazy driver that tried to drive him off the road several times. My son finally had to do some tricky driving to get away from this driver. He took the footage to the police station, but they didn't want it or go after the other driver. They said this other driver had no license or insurance so they wouldn't do anything even though there was damage to my son's pickup. It is an instance where it does nothing for relationship between the young and the police. It is a sad state when criminals are just left to do their criminal activity with no repercussions.

I did the Bella Coola Valley last year in BC, Canada. You start at Williams Lake and it is 5 hrs drive. 11 miles of it, is switchbacks down the encarpment. It is an 18% grade. It is a white knuckle drive but beautiful. Fishing is incredible.

Great video and details of your trip. Please, the next time anyone wants to gather up a bat, have gloves on or other protection, or capture it in a jar or another container (or just leave it be). Many bats in the US can carry Rabies and their bite puncture is so small you may not even know you were bit. Save travels!

I caught a bat about 10 years ago. Got in major trouble. Kept it in a solo cup til I could get it home to put out with my bat boxes. (Nurse) dr found out what I did and had a hissy fit. Had to keep getting bloodwork done to make sure I didn’t have rabies since I had turned it loose. I feel for lili. I am a severe animal lover and it wasn’t happy where it was. So…. Me and pop went thru Ten Sleep when we went out west year before lockdown

That is very true, Cory, and especially if you drive a Turbo diesel, you never wanted to shut your engine off. When you Are getting off. the freeway. Let it sit and run 5 minutes. So the fan in the Turbo can slow down. You don't want it spinning that fast with no oil going to it..

That road is no joke, with my 5.3 and my previous 21' trailer the only time I ever felt the pedal drop to the floor was trying to maintain the 50 speed limit going up from the west side, very steep plus high altitude with a naturally aspirated engine made it a struggle.

The camp staff in Idaho warned us against taking that pass to the Tetons. Said it would kill our trailer brakes. We went a longer way around to the Tetons but it was a such a pretty drive we didn’t mind. Also a 10% grade coming into Yellowstone from Gardiner. Definitely not for the faint of heart!

This is why diesels have the advantage in mountain driving; the exhaust brake (or jake brake). Taking it easy and going slower on steep grades using the engine brake keeps things under control and safe.

We love the Tetons and hope to visit Idaho in the future. Last year we made sure to go around instead of over the Teton pass when we went to Colter Bay. Our Class A will drop to 30 mph going up before it downshifts to increase speed up hill. We are right at 26,000 lbs with the TOAD so the F53 7.4L V8 gasser struggles a little. Also just added a dashcam to the RV and setup an older one in the Jeep.

I haven't towed a travel trailer in years but I've always used my gears when ever it works without over revving. From what I understand about bats they cannot take off from the ground so if you see one on the ground and you want to save it place it somewhere high enough to fly from. Have you guys been to Lassen Volcanic national park yet ? Butte lake campground is a great place to stay while visiting and if you want an awesome night hike/photography spot do the Cinder Cone hike, I like night hikes and that one is without a doubt my favorite of them all.

I love 16 over Powder River Pass. Gotta stop at Dirty Sally's in Ten Sleep for Ice Cream. I have a dash cam in the motorhome front, one in the Jeep's front windshield, and one in the Jeep back window. So I use 3 dashcams all the time while driving the motorhome pulling my Jeep.

Another great episode. Perfect timing for a Halloween Bat video. You keep finding new places to take us. Thank you for sharing. We think Jess is the greatest family cheerleader. Great job Mom! ❤

O my gosh Lilly! You held a bat! We had on of those in our rv when we first moved into our rv. It was in the bedroom and it scared us to death! My husband got a wad of toilet paper and threw it down the toilet. Needless to say, I was scared to go to the bathroom! Like terrified!!!

Wish I had seen your bat story about 35 years ago. Found one hanging on our living room curtains. Truth! Firefighter turnout coat, goggled helmet, tennis racket, and crabbing net. Two Broken Hand made Lamps later out it went in the crabbing net.

We've been thinking about getting a dash cam.. We drive a 15 passenger and people can get a little crazy... Plus a rear camera would be nice, I'm all of five foot and make friends laugh because I have to stand up in the driver's seat to back up. lol So beautiful! thanks for sharing your life!
