I thought the same. I loved my Sage Reel until I bought a Ross Animas for my 7wt. I quit wanting to use my Sage 5wt. I bought a 4/5 Ross Colorado for that rod. My wife is taking my Sage.
Workhorse is the word. My Sage 4 weight has gone all over with me and I even fish it a lot in the hill country. Nice power and feel, old school Sage. What’s a nice reel to pair with it ?
Oh there are so many options, if you have a brand you are loyal to and trust - go that way. I have Lamson Litespeeds, Sage Arbor XL, or a Galvan Tourqe. These are a few nice options depending on your flavor.
I'll be moving up to WA this fall and was wondering would a 4wt Sage Igniter do well on your waters like the Yakima? I was told that it was a more western type of rod.
Im looking to invest good money in one setup. I currently have a Clearwater 9’ 5wt. But I want a top notch rod as well. What size/wt. rod would u recommend. I live in North Carolina
Have you fished the 390 Sonic? I have a 7’6” 3wt Winston Pure, which I love but it fits into a very specific niche. To complement it I’m thinking it would be good to have a more general purpose 3wt, hopefully in the mid-price range.
I have not, but would think for a big river dry fly rod it would be absolutely awesome. That SONIC would be perfect for throwing small dry flies accurately in the wind at some distance. If that is in your wheelhouse go for it!
What sonic streamer rod should I get? I'm looking hard at a 9.5FT 6wt or the 7wt single hand rod. I live in Oregon and WA so if it could handle a summer steelhead that would be cool but mainly for large rivers, trout, and bass. Rods are getting hit about their listed weight nowadays so I am leaning towards the 6wt. Thanks.
@@redsflyshop What fly line would you recommend with this setup? I think I'm going to get an outfit going on your website here soon. Looking at the predator line but not sure. And not sure if I should go full float or not. I do have a Rio Gold 8wt that I could use for floating stuff so I may try an intermediate line but I'm not sure.
Ha yea of course. I don't care a whole lot about the size of the trout though, it's fooling them that is rewarding. Early season right now is a great time for mature trout. By May we'll start to see a much higher number of smaller trout.
He’s using the new Rio Grand Elite 4 weight in Pale Green/Lt. Yellow/Gray color, but he’s nymphing. He said in his previous video of the Sonics that the Rio Gold would be ideal for dry flies on this 490-4.
@@redsflyshop im kinda new to fly fishing but admit my clearwater just does'nt cast like my friends recon,Would the Sage Sonic be more like his Orvis Recon
@@stanreedy2686 Oh it will have far more rebound power, lighter, crisper. You might feel the Recon flex more but it won't have the snappy energy of the Sage SONIC.
Yes, Fishpond Thunderhead Submersible Sling. I really like the pack, but I originally got that for saltwater and will likely just get their Summit Sling for trout fishing.
@Red's Fly Shop from a local shop at The Fly Fishing Show Lancaster, PA. I drove over 1 hour to buy things out of a booth from a fly shop a few miles up the road from my house lol but I knew that price wouldn't be offered after the show. I just walked out to get my mail and received my package from Red's. Thanks for quickly shipping the Simms hardbite cleats for my wife's boots!
