First off, great job, and this suggestion is by no means to be considered critical of the fine work you demonstrate in any way. You have room to carve those cockpit drains out and I would suggest it. That is a fair sized bucket of a cockpit, and those drains are not overly large. Nobody has ever complained of a cockpit that drains 'too fast'.

The advertisement included in the video was in good taste, and appropriate for your video series. I do not understand how anyone could object to a "free" service containing a few seconds of content that hopefully generated some income for you. Your efforts in producing these excellent, informative videos is very much appreciated.

Seeing you in the cabin alone and surrounded by chaos i felt sad for you. You have worked so hard to make the outside of Athena so perfect, and now you have to start over on the inside. But I know once you get going it will all look great, and you will enjoy doing it, and we will enjoy right along with you.

You could make a wooden cover for the cockpit locker, easier faster and dang spiffy, it would compliment the companion way. The boat is looking incredibly good Mads. I like the looks of the solid dodger and you will love it on the long cold and windy night watches. Great work.

Just know that 90% of your viewers have NO IDEA how much work you put into producing your (very professional looking) videos, IN ADDITION to the work on Athena and Obelix, and don't ever worry about doing whatever you need to do to make this worth your time! We can live through 15 seconds of sponsorship every week. Its fine. You got a niche, bro! What are people who like watching your projects going to do if they object to advertising? Make do with Le Vagebond?

Keep on as you see fit! Ads are part of life. Boats are a balance of work and pleasure. Life is good when the scale tips from enjoying the work as well. (Have to throw this in for the few) NO ONE will know your vessel as you do. Wind, water and weather make a sail. A good boat with a good crew makes a good voyage. Congrats on the final steps in the shed. May the wind greet you from the past and your journey ever last.

I had a boat gas tank riding on the corners as you originally intended. It took about 400 hours of running time to wear through the tank seam welds at the bearing points. Nothing like a couple gallons of petrol in the bilge to get my attention.

You could really benefit from a rental storage container or a shipping container. I don't know if you have them there but a used Conex or shipping container is great to store all you stuff and work out of on site. You would be able to build some inexpensive shelving and with some plastic totes you could organize your things. You would even have room for a work table for all of the smaller projects yet to come. I'm surprised the yard doesn't have one that they rent out for boat owners like yourself that work on long term projects.

Mads, don't worry about the ads, it seems like that is they direction most people are taking. You might want to see if West Systems wants to sponsor you, or maybe 3M sanding products, then we could have glorious, glorious sanding ads. It is not like the product placement isn't already there.

I was gonna ask if you were married to the dodger, and I guess you are. Funny, the reason I don’t care for it - it’s Battlestar Galactica looks - is exactly why you like it. Well that’s fine, you’re allowed to like what you like. I was surprised by the Skillshare promo, but then thrilled. You have worked very hard to become a terrific filmmaker and should expect to be able to get paid for your efforts. Way to go!

Mads, I think you are very correct to worry about the future of Patreon (and maybe should worry about youtube too). If I were in your shoes I would work at making my own web presence (to mirror youtube). It might be a bit labor intensive, but would pay off greatly if you were to have problems with third party hosting and payment systems. I don’t mind having a few ads from time to time, as long as it means more and maybe longer videos. Looking forward to the Winter projects!

Very helpful. I have an old GRP sailing boat with horrible condition topside. I was convinced that it needed covering with gelcoat to look fresh, hadnt appreciated that Gelcoat is more molding product. Painting sounded a poor option having spent ages sanding the previous layer off. Seeing how you have used epoxy and then sanded and polished to get a new look has been very informative.

I was curious about the 'Same For Everyone' sign at 8:29 - I thought the shot of the Athena with the sign in the background was great. Apparently it is part of art installation by Nathan Coley which represents Danish values, and one of the 10 installations happen to be right near the boatyard.

Having the old hatch really helps if you are doing a new one. Just remember to extend the depth with minimum 3cm. I would do a foam core for stability and less weight (the fingers never seem to like heavy hatches..) the plug takes aprox 3times longer than the hatch it self. I would despite the old one still go with sanding it down to the fibre and do one layer of glass and then gelcoat. Best of luck with all projects 🖖

Nothing wrong with you doing the in-video ads, it's the ones that popup four or five times during the videos that kill me. A few channels I watch already are doing them, I believe they are already full time RU-vidrs. I think the dodger looks perfect or will with a little work. I've caught up on all the videos, but don't remember if any mentioned the auto-pilot at the back, I assume that's what it is. Hope to see you sailing soon. Fair winds and stay safe.

I totally understand the comparison between the dodger and (for example) a Battlestar Galactica-style Viper canopy. (And I think it's nifty anyway. A dodger that can actually take a wave making it that far back seems like a very good idea.

Sweet, sweet companionway slats sequence. I missed it so over the last few months in the shed. It would be a funny video to just do a 5 minutes mashup of every one of those sequences back-to-back from the very beginning until now. As I watched you admire the amount of light that came into the engine compartment, it reminded me of something my dad had installed on his boat over the engine compartment: a deck mounted prism. it put a tremendous amount of light into the dark engine room with no power. It was fantastic to have and not sure why you don't see more of them. Something to consider. Quite apart from the sci fi aspect, I love your dodger. Hell, I even love my ratty old canvas dodger, but I would kill to have a solid one. I have been coveting it since you bought Athena. It has always seemed odd to me that more boat makers didn’t incorporate them into their designs. I suspect you will like it even more when you head offshore.
