We have been loving all the support from the salites! Thanks for being there guys, you're AWESOME! Click here for the ask questions video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wcjkuUPke1E.html I would love to hear and answer as many of you as I can!
I grew up spending much of my youth on the TX coast specifically Galveston /Jamaica beach. Yalls adventures have rekindled my love for sand, salt and sun. I have always been a power boat guy but have decided to start sailing on my local lake to get learned up. I am gonna get a small sail boat and spend about two years learning to operate her with proficiency and then move up to an 30+ boat for the Gulf. I have lots of homework to do... any recommendations on books to learn about practical sailing skills and a good beginners boat? Idea.... get a waterproof gopro with a head strap for filming.... that will allow you to go hands free.
Do you guys take donations? I work for an industrial supply company (Class C Solution Group) and have access to every stainless steel fastener type, fuel hose, zip ties, marine chemicals, etc....
+Muddy Shoe I sailed on a rented 14 ft sunfish day sailor my first time on Clearlake by Galveston, while visiting my brother one year. I ended up buying a 18 ' Solcat Catamaran for $2000. which I had for several years. In my 40's, I bought from a liquidator a 38' Irwin, center cockpit sloop. Life is short and tomorrow is promised to no one. Don't put off a dream. Get a boat and learn how to sail first hand by the school of hard knocks, imo. It is the fastest way to learn and that is by doing it. Best wishes and good luck
I have now watched all of your videos and I think the most rewarding part of your adventure is having Kate to share it with. Cherish these times. You do an outstanding job on the editing, making them easy to watch. Oh, yeah, for continued adventures it looks like you are going to need a cheap drone.
+thatguydoug Thank you so much for the great comment. We do cherish these moments and they push us to continue to get back at it. We are definitely going to have to figure out a little drone when the next trip goes down!
Love your videos ! I think that it's awesome how you do all this in a moderately sized boat ! Very cool keep the videos coming and good luck ... Living through you guys
nice video ... again! I lived in and around Portland, Maine for 20 years, I won't say it was terrible but St. Augustine and the warm weather is a bit more enjoyable! Hope some of your future plans include a drone, those were some great shots. sending you vibes to help buy a boat and get back to sailing soon. I know it's killing us to wait after moving so near the ocean. I can't imagine how it must feel after the grand adventure you finished. Hope to see you back on a boat soon!
+John Fox Thanks so much John for understanding and being so supportive. New England is a great place, I can work with the cold but I definitely would rather be south no doubt!
So what is the plan? Are you guys buying a bigger Sailboat? Or are you giving sailing a break for a while and giving the RV life a try? Love the sailing life you guys lived.
+MARKLINMAN1 Ha! Sailboat all the way! Just too attached to the water life now. Going to be working hard for that next boat, it's tough waiting but it'll be worth it!
I appreciate your opinion, however having a thorough understanding how technology works and sailing to remote locations, I understand that the video's upload date has little to nothing to do with the date and time it was filmed. Wicked Salty is not scamming anyone. They keep their followers and patrons well informed of their activities. If you don't like this channel and how they post their videos, don't watch and/or support them. It's really just that simple. Take Care.
Looks like a great time on your sailboat . New England winter is a big difference. Have you been thinking of any trips soon? Thanks for the great videos.
Awwwwww man..... right as I subscribe to you guys for the sailing!!!! That's ok, I got plenty to catch up on your adventure and perhaps you'll have the boat you desire very soon. Now that you've had a taste of the cruising life, I can't imagine you giving up now. Maybe we'll cross paths one day.
I love seeing the videos and hope you guys have a quick turn around on vessels. I can't remember which respected author I am quoting, but it was a short chapter called "30 Is Enough." It was about how much costs go up as you pass into the upper 30's and into the 40+ foot boats. mid-30s is the way to go. Also, it's not just the cost, but also the ability to single-hand in an emergency scenario, including pulling up the anchor.
And just like that it's over? Dang... Loved your videos and following your journey. Bummer. Hope your new boat comes soon. You and a couple other live aboard people's videos keep me motivated till I retire in 4.5 years and follow your lifestyle. Thanks.
I have been seeing your boat on listings and always wondered where the aerial shots came from. I had a Phantom 2V+ and it was a ton of fun to fly. Big fan of the boat looking for something similar but closer to 14k. Great video as always!
Hello Nice video, I plan to sail over in my 2007 macgregor 26M with a 60 hp Yamaha 4 stroke in June 2017 from Florida. I live in Memphis TN. and this is something I have been wanting to do for a while now.
Great vid guys! What are you considering for the next boat? We sail out of Marion on a WS42 - would enjoy having you guys for a sail next summer. Fair winds and following seas! Doug on WS42 Harmony
My name is Stuart by the way, not X-it DB. Have you given any consideration to a multihull. I'm a trimaran fan but cats are also excellent, especially with dagger boards as opposed to keels. Fast. Very stable in almost any anchorage. No rolling. Almost no healing under sail. Tons more room for a given boat length (cats, not tri's). Much shallower draft allowing many more possibilities in anchorage choices. Don't look at the "Fat" cats. They're pigs under sail. Sharp narrow hulls are rocket ships.
Have you sat down and analyzed what your costs per day were for your travels from Massachusetts to Florida to the Bahamas and back to Charleston were ?
+Kevin McCarthy No we have not analyzed, we never have been about talking finances. Not for any particular reason it is just not something I necessarily ask or talk to other people about besides close friends and family. But there are plenty of resources that do.
I love your videos and inspired by your commitment. Question, why are you asking $6k more than what you paid for your boat after all the use this last year?
+Damon Kessler The asking price is now set at 15 k, we have added a few additions that have helped make her cruising ready that we are leaving with the boat.
Which location did you enjoy more and/or thought was the most beautiful? Abacos or the Exhumas? I have the opportunity to go to one or the other on a jetski trip this summer with a group of friends.
I noticed Sailing S is interested in a meet up and I was thinking about this in general.. but also.. I find this a little funny.. not in a mean way... you and Kate are kind of young... but you are kind of the old salt(ies) because when I go to the different vlogs that are starting up a lot of them subscribe to your channel.. You are the Modern Lover's (the band) of Vlogs.. they didn't sell millions of records, but those who did, most started their own band from wiki: The band was influential on the then-burgeoning punk rock and later new wave and indie musical styles. John Cale, Iggy Pop and David Bowie have all covered "Pablo Picasso"; it was also famously covered by the Burning Sensations for the soundtrack to the movie Repo Man. Seminal punk group the Sex Pistols covered "Roadrunner" on The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. Additional covers of "Roadrunner" include one by labelmates the Greg Kihn Band, and one by Joan Jett. Post-punk act Siouxsie and the Banshees revisited "She Cracked" on Downside Up, as did Seaweed on the John Peel Sub-Pop Sessions album. Echo & The Bunnymen covered "She Cracked" live on "Crystal Days", although with some altered lyrics. Joan Jett sang "Roadrunner" on her cover album, The Hit List. In 2009 Titus Andronicus covered "Roadrunner" on its EP The Innocents Abroad - Live in London 23/02/09; this recording was subsequently included on the fan compilation Feats of Strength.
+Titus Tiger That is a crazy analogy! I just looked them up and they originated in Nattick, MA. Funny as well. Just striving to produce the best work I can. Thanks for the good words always and being a great supporter!
+Wicked Salty Wes Jonathan Richman still performs around.. maybe in your area. Guitarist Jerry Harrison went onto be in the Talking Heads bottomline.. very influential
If your a member of cruisers forum...check out a thread called tragedy strikes...might hit home and those of you on east coast keep a lookout. Could happen to any of us. Btw...another great update salty.
+Sean Moore That's brutal the holding near west end is terrible, hard marl. We've anchored where he was, pretty significant ocean swell. If he had only 60 feet or so of rode out, theres a HUGE drop off right there, he could have drag into the drop off and the anchor would have been just hanging... dang thats rough!..
Not sure we on the same page. I believe there mission is as they've stated, they ask for volentary support. Content is free otherwise. Using older, unused footage and practicing the art of creating enjoyable vids until new content filmed.. Seems legit to me. I apologize for my communication skills.
gkarjala This guy is trolling our videos... I'm so glad you understand and are with us :) So many people asked us to be on Patreon so that they could support Wicked Salty. Anyone can watch the daily vlogs to see what we are up to, we're not hiding anything!
+Wicked Salty Wes Hey Wes, do Lionfish freak sharks out or something? You hear about that? There's shirts with their pattern, or used to be anyways called "shark proof"
Enjoy your videos. What were your favorite 5 or 6 anchorages/towns in the Bahamas/Abacos? Would a Hans Christian 33 work for you (see www.yachtworld.com). My wife and I sail to Martha's Vineyard each summer from the Chesapeake.
Hey will you support me so I can get my boat to the Abacos this winter and make home movies with an annoying soundtrack and show my sand dollars? Thanks
