A bit different adventure to sailing the inside passage, eh?! What an amazing experience. I must admit to being quite anxious at a few point in your passage, and I was just watching it from the comfort of my home on RU-vid!

We had so many weather variations, issues with the head, confined sleeping social space for 15 days and we can laugh at it all now. We do love our Shannon. She is a steady reliable trustworthy home at sea sail boat. I wish we could have taken a picture of the carrots we had left. It was a grand last meal! And it was the Admiral running for the portable potty. The captain was busy docking the boat 🤪 Really enjoyed the video. Love you guys

Thank you for this extended version - it was very real! it is good to have been through wild weather with experienced sailors as it will give you confidence for when you hit big waves and wind on your own up the coast of BC and Alaska. Looking forward to seeing your next adventures. Fair winds.

I just want to say as a NZ commercial skipper and a subscriber to many sailing channels, your channel is the most authentic and real as it happens channel out there. No string bikinis, no tits and arse hanging out, no freaking out when the waves are only 6 feet high but just real and raw sailing on one of the most treacherous seas on Earth. You and your vessel are a credit to you all. Well done. No higher praise can be given to you. Thank you for sharing with the World. Perhaps it will make some fair-weather sailors wake up and take notice. I was in a hurricane in 1974 sailing from NZ to Vanuatu called New Hebrides at the time so I know what its like to be in heavy seas but thank god you weren't. Your vessel just loved the conditions.

It was quite the wild ride! Sharing the bucket 🪣 was the worst part. Highlights were definitely the stary skies and moonlit nights, amazing sunrises & sunsets, dolphins and good food! Still not over it but ready for another go. Maybe we’ll all meet back up in Patagonia!
@wastinson
@wastinson 6 месяцев назад
I wondered about 'the bucket' incident. Did James' father finally figure out the issue with the head? Did the boat have to be hauled out (to prevent scuttling her)? Is he thinking of sailing (single-handed vs with your mom) to S America to meet you there? Oh boy! If you go around the Cape! Oh Boy! Absolutely NOTHING will frighten you afterwards! A tip: go West -> East (you are no doubt already aware). That's a Catalina 37' right? I bareboated in the BVI on a "CSY (Caribbean Sailing Yachts) 37' that sure looked the same; same rig; same cockpit; similar cabin setup. BEST trip of my life...and will likely remain that way unfortunately 🥲
@wastinson

Nope...forget it Allison. Don't waste your time. I just checked and the CSY 37 is definitely NOT a Catalina 37. Sorry about that.

Oh my God, I saw another video with your parents being interviewed on the RU-vid sailing channel "SV Triteia", I believe in Fiji or New Zealand (could be wrong on the location). How do you like your parents Shannon? For some reason, I fell in love with the Shannon 28.

Yes! James the Sailor Man interviewed them for his podcast Yarns shortly after we completed this crossing, he was actually the first person we talked to when we touched land in NZ (by chance)! His boat was in Opua also. Awesome dude. He made a short tour video of the boat as well!

Is it scary taking watch at night, hauling the sail in? as you said that I pictured it being so dark and the possibility of accidentally falling off the boat 😵 edit: you mentioned it can be jarring around 38 mins! I definitely can picture that.
@AllisonandJamesSailing
@AllisonandJamesSailing Год назад
Can definitely be a little uneasy at night with the limited visibility, if the winds and swell pick up. It often sounds worse than it is and my anxious mind struggled with the howling winds and waves bashing the beam of our boat in that storm mid trip. On a calm night tho being on watch is absolutely incredible and serene. Imagine and unbelievable amount of stars and bioluminescent waves🌊
