I would never do that. Macs aren’t built for big seas and heavy weather. If you do it and make it (there and back), you’ll be a legend. Check out Sam Holmes video of his trip from the west coast to Hawaii- note he didn’t try to sail back and got a true blue water boat. (Cape Dory 28). Fair winds.

@@SailingwithDrMarCo I'm familiar with all the cons, I believe the worst that could happen is it would be uncomfortable as the riding motion is poor in heavy weather, there are numerous small sailboat Pacific crossings and yes I've watched Sam Holmes several times. The Mac supposedly is self righting and should not be able to sink, with the correct weather conditions it should be doable. The rigging, centerboard and rudders need upgrades and maybe a hard dodger . I did consider a fin keel or twin keels but changing the flotation might not be wise. Thoughts?

@@ExploringCabinsandMines you can’t predict a 3-4 week weather window. One of the worst things that could happen is you lose your mast, either in a roll over or because they are not heavily reinforced. The M is the only one that has a less than 2 capsize ratio and if half your stuff shifts during a knockdown it’s not going to self-right. I have a Westsail 32 now which is 20k lbs displacement (5x a Mac) and it could be a challenging sail. I knew my 26M well and it would be foolish to attempt a Pacific crossing in a Mac IMO. But like I said, if you made it you’ll be legend.

@@SailingwithDrMarCo I understand there are professionals that give weather windows to travel and i would leverage that avenue. As a former house contractor and current composite repair tech in the aerospace industry I am fully capable of planning and building a temporary mast or whatever is necessary, I've considered filling the counterweight with beet juice which is what we use for tractor tires as it's 11 pounds per gallon instead of 7 , anyways people only have vague reasons like " you shouldn't " and "don't " no one can point to a Mac sinking and if it floats I've got supplies. I live in the Puget Sound area and have a decent amount of power boat experience, I will purchase a Mac stick to the inside passage ( Canada B.C.) and go from there. I appreciate your videos and advice.

There was no heater on my MacGregor.
