In this video, I try to capture a bit of the process we go through setting up. It includes putting the boom on, backing the boat into the dock, pulling the headsail up, and sailing along at a really brisk pace. We ended up back at Boy Scout island with some pretty gnarly, uncomfortable wind, and didn't film any of the trip back to the dock. All in all, it was an unforgettable experience shared with loved ones.

Awsome dad! Great video. That’s a nice view of that boat. And great to get the kid time! They grow up TOO FAST! Two cats and two dogs?!

Never had the cats out but yep, two kids, two cats, two dogs, and two adults. And they do grow up too fast. I've got a driver already

I had a trailer once just like that it was completely rusted out from within. Couldn’t see it. It just broke one day.

That was great Jake! I kinda feel like I was with you on this trip. Good to see Russ (for a little), and hear Dorothy. Was Travis hiding downstairs?

Hi nice video. I have same sailboat but different rudder. Is you rudder going all the way down 90 degree ? Mine is not and it's causing a lot of problems while turning

We had to modify our cheek block at the bottom of the castle, then we push it down to straight manually, and tie the rope off once it's straight. It's tough to get it straight up and down on the older Mac's, but it's also a requirement for easier turning and if you don't get it down, you risk stressing it to the point it could break. Another good tip would be to leave it in the down position long enough to fill with water before you start moving. The older rudders have holes in them which allow for them to fill up, thus keeping them down. Good luck!

Never had a problem keeping the rudder down, at least not since ive owned it. Previous owner had the rudder backwards...

@@chancelange interesting! Mine stays down after a bit, but it needs to fill up first.

@@trailersailoradventures6138 Do you have any problem with steering under power. Here is my problem. When maneuvering under power at good speed tiller steering works great with the motor fixed straight. At lower speeds around the docks it is necessary to steer with both motor and tiller. The problem is I can only swing the motor (Tohatsu 9.9) in one direction. With the handle folded down it hits the side of the motor well on the port side. With the handle up I have no torque to turn the motor. How do you steer around the docks and do you have centerboard down while manevevering inside the docks

@@AlexSolarwolf yeah, if you're going very slow, not enough water is passing the rudder to help you turn. So you need a small amount of speed to maneuver, which is a bit of a conundrum when you're coming into dock. Usually, I putter in toward the dock and line up as perfectly as I can, dagger board up, then kill the motor about 20 meters out. That gives me enough speed to maneuver if I have to, and enough room to back out if needed. Then, I keep the stern away from the dock, until I'm close, to let my wife jump off the front, and then just pop the butt around when I'm close enough. I ran into an issue the other day, coming into a slip, where I couldn't turn at all, but it was because I had almost no speed. And the motor doesn't move in the well, just like you said, because the well is too small. So I'm planning on adding a jack plate soon to move the motor a few inches so I can move it, thus eliminating this problem. It's tough, but practice moving around some buoys and you'll get it.
