Well ladies, if anyone had any lingering doubts as to whether you are both bonkers, you have dispelled them! Great fun and, on a serious note, good practice for manouvreing under sail. All the best. James

We are thinking of some more manoeuvring under sail practice, but maybe a bit less insanity 😄😄😄😄 Glad you enjoyed it 👍

Well you certainly are genius sailors . CGI marina was brilliant. It’s tough enough for IRL sailing. You look like a great day out having fun.

We really enjoyed our wee day out. The video editing was a nightmare and required a lot of coffee 😄

My first real sail boat, 62 years ago, had no motor. No wind, I was parked. Lot of wind, hitting my mooring bouy, that went quite well, after some try and error. Once, on a hot summer day, with a lot of spectators, we entered the local ferry pier. Sailed up parallell to the pier, backed the fore sail. Sailed siedways 10 metres and tied up. Bought some ice cream. Sailed off. Looking like 'men of the world', not a smile, not looking left or right to the people crowding up. 14 years old we were. Today I could not do such exercises with 17 tons sv Hulda. Not even with a lot of 'shit talk', marked me that swearing word :-) I need more practice. Now my wife and I is out sailing. 4 deaf ears, trying to communicate. People are looking, not the same way as when I was 14. Now it is more like "is he going to kill that poor lady?" We are good friends, hearing aids are comming in the fall.

You must have been so cool, just casually sailing into the pier like that. I tried something similar once in a Topper dinghy, bounced off a couple of dock walls and wound up flat on my back in the dinghy with the sailing club standing round the top looking down at me and cheering 😮 ⛵ That cured me from "coolness". 😄 Good luck with the hearing aids and I hope they help you out 👍

We’ve had foresail jammed coming into pontoon once guy across from us thought it was intentional 😂 & congratulated us

Always take the congrats - especially if they are liquid 😉 I do not envy you having a stuck foresail. That does not sound like fun.

Well, we recently experienced a genuine engine failure courtesy of the head gasket. We managed to sail most of the way back to our home mooring and all was fine until the wind disappeared and the river current carried us to the rocks. With no steerage we were a bit stuffed. The coastguard put out a call for assistance and a tow was arranged and all ended well..apart from the head gasket. Fun to see you practice, perhaps this would be a good application for VR glasses to overlay a virtual marina 🤣

Glad to hear that your "adventure" ended well, but I will have to admit that the VR glasses sound a bit much for the boat's IT infrastructure (10 year old Dell laptops) 😄 On the basis of what happened to us, our plan for this marina would be to sail into the large harbour area, drop sails and hope to get a tow from the harbour master or a local boat and perhaps tie up to the yard's pontoon.

Can you imagine what you looked like to the uninformed observer:) I've not seen anyone sail into the marina but at least a couple of times I saw my neighbour sail out!

Our trace on MarineTraffic was a right mess and the lesson learned was "aim for the harbour, forget the marina" 😄

It was a hoot to do! We had a blast out there, tacking, gybing and ramming concrete dolphins...

Very interesting test you did. In my opinion you did miss a very important part in your test. The wind out at sea is undisturbed. Near land at the real marina the wind is disturbed by buildings, trees etc...and it might be very unpredictable. That means that the wind might change its direction and strength in the real marina wich you didn't have in your imaginary marina. I live in Sweden and sail mostly inshore I have learned how unpredictable the wind is when it sweeps around the islands. The test you did was very entertaining and it surely helped you to manouver Salty Lass. Beverly, have you done anything with your hair? It looked more colourful in this video.
@SailingYachtSaltyLass

Important stuff first - my hair needed a meeting with a box of colour. It needed it very badly and it was worth it 😃 As for the unimportant stuff, I agree that wind shifts near land but like all simulations we had to simplify and make-do. We still feel it was a worthwihile effort and we learned a lot. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
