My bf pestered me for weeks to watch your videos because he was persuaded by Riley to buy a boat and sail the world. I relented, started from episode 1, and never looked back. We've both caught the sailing bug. Your inspiration has become our inspiration ... so thanks. We love you guys ❤️
Sailing La Vagabonde yes! It's so encouraging that it's possible to go from being a complete newbie to sailing the world. Lots of respect for the dedication you've got (and the years of hard work beforehand that it takes to get there)
Glad to see you managing the transition from relative obscurity to bonafide internet stars with grace and class. Don't ever stop being yourselves, it is what attracted so many to you in the first place. Fair winds!
Alayna you are a docking Queen! And I LOve how Riley always says "Beautiful Alayna"! Nice video..Love the music, as usual. You guys just never cease to amaze me at the things you can do!
That's what I think too! They are so down-to-earth, funny, brave, talented, and sweet (not to mention good-looking). Such a delight following their adventures. Cheers from a keelboat sailor...
Wonderful video! Love that you panned around the anchorages more than you normally do to see the other types of boats. Love seeing the boats, the people, the shoreline where your at as if we were standing on the boat looking around for ourselves. Great job!
How beautiful La Maddalena is. Love that you showed off your skills in front of all those memorized people, good job Elayna. Thanks guys for giving me some peace to my busy busy life.
I started from Beginning with these guys. Besides being early sailboat vloggers and easy on the eyes, the content and video editing really is the best of the many many dozens of sailing channels I watch. That and sincere.
At 08:04 is the 110ft catamaran "Swift" formerly the maxi racer "Gitana XIII" or "Kingfisher 2" converted to a fast cruiser. She holds the record for Hong kong - London in 41 days, 21 hours and 26 mins and crossing the North Pacific from San Francisco to Yokohama in 11 days, 12 hours and 55 mins to name but a few. A bit of healthy competition for Riley to sharpen his teeth :-) love your videos, thanks for sharing. Sail safe!
You've given me a new addiction ... researching liveaboard catamarans: Fountaine Pajot (bit out of my price range), Prout Snowgoose (closer to my price range), Lagoon, and PDQ36 are on my list (Outremer would be on my list if I could afford a $450,000 yacht ... but alas). I have two questions for you ... one is a request. Questions: Would you ever consider meeting up with other people who have their own boats and sail with them in an armada of fun? Admiral Riley! Request: Would you ever be willing to put together a map of all the places you've visited in SLV1 and SLV2 and reference the videos associated with those locations? Can't speak for everyone, but I do plan to follow your footsteps some day and check out many of the beautiful locations that you've stumbled upon. As always, thanks for all the amazing videos you share. Now that I have a full time job again, I'll hop back on Patreon and throw a few bucks your way. Good luck you two!!
P.S. - I was going to donate $5/episode, but for $6/episode I put you at $10,000/episode. So ... congrats, you two. You just broke the $10K mark. Glad I could help!!
Look at the video again. See the old bearded gent working on his rigging on a Vindoo. That’s a blue water boat you can sail anywhere and a true bargain. You don’t need to have a catamaran. Plenty of boats at affordable prices. You just have to read the proper books.
Just buy a boat in Europe. Cheap boats. No need to spend crazy amount of money, like 300k+ on a boat. It's not needed. Sure if you have the money to throw around it's fine. But at the end of the day, you don't need some fancy boat. It's what you can live with.
Yeah, you're right ... but I like my physical living space to be a bit larger than a monohull can provide. However, and a lot like Captain Riley and First Mate Elayna, I may have to start small and work my way up.
Yachtworld.com. Just found a Tartan 34C for 9K in great shape with a Yanmar engine, just add parachute anchor, larger ground tackle, charts, binoculars with compass and a self steering vein. Read Lin and Larry Pardies books from the library. Try the Hiscocks also. They all went in the 60's when there was no one and no help. Try older Cruisingworld Magazines. People have been doing this forever and for less that 10000 a year for supplies and sundries. I had a friend who used to weave palm hats for money in every port. he used to sew for other cruisers also. A HVAC degree is priceless in a third world country.
One of your best episode for me guys, thanks a lot. I've also been sailing there with my boat and found some magic ancorage there, alone in a cove all surrounded by islands, my best mooring so far!! As I have no more boat to sail your are my only way to still having a taste of what it fells like...... Keep on rockin' ! And thanks a lot for what you bring us !!!!
Really enjoyed this video guys. It was a real snapshot of what it's like sailing the Med and dealing with the day to day issues that arise. It's not always beer and skittles and that showed through nicely. The docking issues, rough passages, attempted ripoffs, getting your anchor chain crossed by a numbie balanced against the sublime anchorages, nice sailing and new places to explore. If I had to show somebody new to cruising a snapshot of the realities of sailing in the Med, this video would be it!!
My pleasure. I've just been skippering a boat from Skiathos to Athens last week. It was a one way delivery with guests. Seeing your video was like, tick on that one, yep that happened too, tick, tick, yep tick....... The reality of sailing and cruising shines through on your videos. Hope our paths cross one day as I'm a bit of a homesick Aussie that now calls France home.
Thanks for the shout out to Patrick O'Brian! I've read the whole series twice... And am seriously envious of your opportunity to sail in the wake of Aubrey and Maturin. Well done!
That was like an umbilical separation from the mid-phase. Back in the groove again! Good control...from lullaby seas to rocking all night. You all definitely are making it fun!
Love what you're doing w/ the Patreons. As the world moves ever apart you are able to bring together people from all different backgrounds and walks of life to experience a little sliver of your journey. Keep the videos coming. Great pairing w/ my coffee as I contemplate being trapped in the middle of NYC.
Nice to see you having so much fun with your new boat. I thought a cat might be boring. Far from it! What a great ride on an absolutely beautiful boat. And what a beautiful helmswoman. God she gets prettier every day.
Destiny and James seem like such great people. You have such a great support group on this channel, Riley and Elayna, and you deserve that! I cannot wait to start my cruising journey! I love how interested you are in history too, Riley! Thanks for your videos, guys! -Richie
Just jumped on board guys but Im going back to recap the last 2 years. Have skimmed through a number already and I'm already absolutely captivated!!!! Such a wonderful thing you guys are doing. What a magical journey. I've got alot to catch up on but Im looking forward to the future!
blue skies. white clouds yeah. i thought all of the Mediterranean was now hazy. so happy to see some clearer sky. $160 a night wow. heard some ports in Caribbean are 2000 a week. i cant even remember if we paid anything. women and man used to be on land selling right there veggies/eggs/bread out of baskets ( 1970's). i love you two. you are such gracious people. cherrs
Ahhh!!! Again, you pull it off like pro's. I feel myself stressed a little on this one but your guests are sailors and they can handle it and it all works out. Looks like more Patrons are coming aboard...GREAT!!!Very prudent to check that anchor Elayna, you may have saved two boats. Nice camera work all around.
Love the music and how the end is edited and put together. I’m so jealous of the patrons who get to learn free diving from Riley and I’d learn Elaynas healthy cooking!
Gotta feel for the patrons who on their first sail are treated to high/choppy seas but they seem to be handling it well. Props to Elena for that great parking job and for making the old Italian men gawk! Woo hoo!
That coral gets screwed up from some chemicals in the suntan lotions. The spray stuff is the worst. Great video and good to see Elayna diving and having fun. Looks like you are comfortable on the new boat. It is becoming part of you like the old Vega.
Thank you for your videos I live vicariously through you. Someday I hope to put my 27’ in Lake Huron and sail Maybe even Someday Bluewater sale. Thank you very much for your hard work into your awesome videos. Karl From Cass City Michiga.
Smart move heading off the anchor problem Elayna. I am not getting those people who don't know how to anchor or what scope to set. Even without a shift in wind, the anchors would have easily fouled if the lengths of the anchor line were different, or as different hulls respond differently to wind, and as different keels respond differently to tides and currents. I've tried to use an anchor bouy to let people see where my anchor line is. Certainly would have been hard to untangle in a blow as your hulls were mashing, and the masts were crashing, in the middle of the night.
Love your video as always! Just thought I’d say that it is not just your patrons that make these videos possible as your opening scene mentions. I don’t have add blockers and don’t subscribe to RU-vid Red. Some, if not many, RU-vidrs make the videos possible also, do they not? I will always support your channel and as always, thank you!
Sailing the Med on a US Navy ship in 1983 we anchored outside the port at La Madilena (sp), and took small launches in to a landing in the town. One of the great places to spend a few days taking in the sights and the local culture.
Can you please show me some proof of this? From another comment I've seen from R&E they mentioned that some music artists claim the adsense revenue for the episodes.
Riley & Elayna, I'm so sorry I started this discussion thread. People can be so mean and rude in their comments and I gave them an opening to do such. Forget the ignorance, jealousy and stupidity of them, keep up the good work in providing good, clean entertainment! You two are good people, something that you guys inspire many to live up to. Again, I'm so sorry. Maybe there is a way this discussion thread can be deleted??
More genuinely nice people … I love that there’s this like-minded community. Your patron guests, a guy board sailing …!!! And how you both give hands-on experience from the get-go. 🐑🐑🇳🇿🇳🇿NZ
I'm imagining that others have asked but, I'm curious about the pendant Elayna is wearing. It looks like a stylized "OM' symbol that is similar to the Tantric version of the OM symbol which denotes the divine being within rather than outside the physical body. Whatever it is though, it's quite beautiful and somehow representative of all the beauty and adventure and enjoyment you bring into my world. TY TY TY Riley and Elayna!
Great job on the video...keep them coming! Wished I could join the crew, retiring soon. HINT HINT!!! You both are very inspiring. I know I say that a lot to you, but you do inspire me to get my own. I just can't right now do to another commitment. Until next time......
You could use an anchor buoy to see and tell others where your anchor is BUT sadly, uneducated boaters might think it is an anchor MOORING buoy and tie their boat to it AHHHH. Of course you would catch them as soon as they pull near your boat and your radar alarm goes off :-) I C you have some hand held radios! Nothing beats a waterproof MARINE handheld with GPS etc. Talk to each other or get rescued in a flash etc... they are worth, well your life... Keep the batteries up full (spare batteries on you can help too).
Guess what guys?! We are starting our own new adventure and bought a 1984 motorhome! Kind of like a boat but you can get parking tickets :) thanks for promoting an alternative lifestyle and for encouraging others to do the same!
You can't ancor at the Pink Beach anymore because Tourists used to steel the sand and take it home and destroy it. it's barely even pink anymore :( BTW you should visit the EAST coast next time! Way cheaper !
Where do you find the music you play on the videos? It is always unique but really easy to listen to and somehow relevant, for me it makes the difference between "another video" and a good video!
Very nice! It doesn't take long to figure out how your boat reacts when docking or anything else you ask Vagabonde to do. The pink beach thing just shows how, even in a remote area, humans affect the environment. I got a kick out of the guy on the "sailboard" (is that what it is called?). I've been watching for a while now and look forward to your videos. BTW you need to get Daniel a partner. 😎😎😎
Been slowly making my way through you guys videos and this is the second time Riley has mentioned Patrick O' Brian, so I have to say something. I think you may be the only other person under the age of 65 who has read Aubrey Maturin. Cheers for making me feel a little less nerdy, you guys are great!
I watched some random SLV episodes and loved it some much that I decided to watch from the start. I am already at EP 110 after 3 weeks. Should probably catch up in the next few weeks
woohooo 2nd to like and first comment! in a otherwise sad day over here in America, Losing soo many souls in Las Vegas and then Tom Petty. Sad day. but Riley and Elayna always makes me forget any sad and puts a smile on my face. you guys were kind've on a lean for a bit with those turbulent waves, took me back to LV1 cheers guys. God Bless. Capn
yeah Blewyd, thanks Calvin yep he's right Patreons get access a week before, sign on up, other cool perks being thrown our way as well like live vids. fun fun, not to mention the lotto chance to get to sail with R&E's
Agreed Steve (Capt from CA USA). As for sailing, I am too old and well, kind of ill to ever ride the waves again but hey, I have a lifetime of sailing memories and some awesome videos too. Just wish I could find the darn things :-)
They're from MONTANA? Wow! Thats about the furthest from ocean sailing! I have property there and have spent time there. Its cows, horses and big skies! No sailboats! But, glad they made the trip!
