I’m with you Donnie. Have many subscriptions but Vernon is the only one I support. I don’t know when I started following his adventures, it’s been a few years, but his content has been so enjoyable to watch. Looking forward to little Eli manning the helm.

Yes that will be so cool to watch him grow and learn the ropes of sail boating . Probably by 11 years old he should be able to handle the boat in good conditions . Hope all is well with you and your family .

Vernon, Marie and Eli another awesome video. This anchorage you are in wow so magical, peaceful. What is the CROC situation like around this area ? That's a brilliant idea putting the hose protector around the line so as to protect from the coral and sharpe rocks you tie off to. Enjoy you time here and hoipe the fish catching or spearing is good. Looking forward to next video.

Thanks mate. No crocs around here according to locals. We are a bit sceptical though. No fish around really, Sulawesi is tough in this regard. They are still bombing in many places, very sad to witness.

Thanks Vernon and Marie for another interesting video. I use offline maps too. It was a life saver all the way up the coast of Papua where Navionics charts were at best vague and often verging on fantasy (not the fault of Navionics, rather just no attempt by anyone to update chart information). Downloadable satellite maps are the only way to go, coupled with looking over the side of course.

Thats for sure. I do find it a bit rich though that Navionics still charges the same amount for a map that is basically a digital copy of the old Britannic navy charts as they do for super accurate surveyed charts in other places.

Looks like you three settled in well done, the anchoring is the same as Patagonia cruising. I'm surprised learn that the winds in Indo., are at times very quick and violent as you being semi grounded on reef. SV. Skoiern IV

I like that anchoring. Looks like it would be a good idea to get another padded rope that's longer for different situations. That way you'll also have a back up.

Yep would be good. Super easy to make though and you can find rubber hose everywhere. Actually what’s really good is fire hose as it stores flat and takes up way less space on the boat.

What’s the app you were using please. Offline maps ? Lovely spot. Any mozzies ? Also , just a tip. We had our kids in a swing that hung by the wheel or somewhere where Eli can see what’s going on . Made it with a piece of wood to spread the rope above him, and rope in a square , with two holes for his legs, made out of canvas . Make it deep enough .it was a life saver. 🙏🏻👌

Yes, Offline Maps only on Android unfortunately. Yeah Eli is strong enough now to do something like that you mentioned.

With a sandy bottom like that and being out of a channel with little to no current flow I personally would have used a skedge anchor

What a top spot, I could stay for there for God only knows how long. If thats not the best cat for a couple I don't know what is, lift up rudders, dagger boards perfect size for a couple and it looks good. It's great for bolting into areas like this to dodge terrible weather as well, so it's a safe boat as well. I've said it before, I wonder where the molds are, I want one, is Crowther still around?

Amazing spot and we enjoyed it for a week. The best person to ask about moulds would be Jeff Cruise, he build this boat and many other Corwthers in Australia.

It was 8 months ago. Indo, PNG and Solomon Islands are all pretty much unsurveyed outside the main harbours. Navionics just digitalise the old paper maps from decades ago.

@@SailingLearningByDoing ok. My current subscription only covers up to the Solomon's but currently in Fiji and I find if you use the satellite overlays from Navionics that helps quite a bit. I also use the offline maps app like you do which is great. We are slowly heading west and hopefully meet up one day 😀

Yep for sure. You mean use a stern anchor? Yes sometimes but I much rather use ropes, much faster and easier.

Off-line maps can't be read as it's chokka with advertising. Sought directions and it switched to Google maps...😮

I guess not. Actually the SD card from Navionics short circuit itself a few days ago and all charts wiped. I contacted them but no replacement. So I now need to spend $350 for a new one that is still super inaccurate. Go figure

@@SailingLearningByDoing SD cards cannot be trusted to not end up garbled because of how the device OS deals with them. If they are somehow unmounted before they are written whether intentional or not then they have a good chance of losing the file system. They are okay for temporary storage but any time you put something on there that you might want to keep you are taking a risk. How well navionics works depends heavily on where you are in the world. In some places it is quite acceptable and in others it is not very useful at all. Those places where it is not useful also tend to have horrible paper charts only suitable for commercial traffic not cruising.

@@danielboughton3624 yes I know all this but to navionics make it impossible to copy the files on the card do you can’t make a backup. So when it does crap out then you’re forced to purchase it all again. I areas with large amounts of commercial shipping the charts are generally very accurate as proper surveys have been done. Places like the Solomon Islands navionics have basically just digitalised old British navy charts from 200 years ago. Pretty much useless.

@@SailingLearningByDoing I haven't tried copying mine but they are also not on an SD card. If they were then I could use some disk image copy program to nab them. My recollection is I can put them on multiple devices which will be put to the test this fall when I buy a 2nd tablet as a backup.
