Nice tour but I hope you’ve figured out by now that there is a much shorter way to the UNB/SJRH from Somerset St and that is via Sandy Point Rd. Keep up the good work of SJ’s best ambassadors👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow! Beautiful area. Millidgeville seems very nice. That hospital is huge for the area. I had a friend from Moncton, where I used to live, who had heart surgery there as I believe it's still the only cardiac hospital in the province. UNBSJ is in many ways a satellite school of UNB F'ton and Dal Medical from Halifax. My son graduated from there 10 years ago. The campus there is the oldest campus in Canada so it has a lot more history with nicer architecture. UNB has a nursing school in Moncton as well. The campus is still very nice overall for being relatively new!!! Cheers from Cape Breton
The stadium that you, Les & Wendy, went by in this video was the Canada Games Stadium. It was built for the 1985 Canada Summer Games, along with the Aquatic Centre, and are both still serving in an exemplary fashion the city after 36 years of use. UNBSJ is the primary tenant of the Stadium. Both the Stadium & Aquatic Centre sport the 1985 Summer Games logo. The Saint John Regional Hospital began caring for patients on Thursday, September 11, 1981. Both it, and the former Saint John General Hospital(which was on Waterloo St., but had the address of 1 Hospital St.) operated together until Sunday, October 31, 1982, when the last of the patients plus all materiel were moved out of the General Hospital, and it's doors locked/power cut to the building. The General Hospital was demolished by explosive means back on Sunday, December 10, 1995 at 1:45PM Atlantic(9:45AM Pacific) that afternoon, with every possible vantage point that had a clear view of the hospital structure filled with those who wanted to bid the place it's final farewell. The Regional Hospital is the largest hospital overall in the Province of New Brunswick, with all possible services operational in it's walls....all 1 Million + square feet of it. Hope that fills in a few more gaps for you both. =)
@@onlymeandmytwocents Anything I know is either from first-hand knowledge when I used to live in the Port City or by research online/at libraries. I do know a bit of stuff about Saint John, but not all stuff, because that would mean I'd have to have 2 brilliant minds, and I know that's not happening(XD). But I'm just here to help where I can. =)
The gold dome that was on top of the old General Hospital is on display just off Garden St. I think that Les and Wendy May have pointed out the dome in a previous video.
FYI: If you had made the first right turn just past the front of the hospital (you almost turned down the 2nd one-the entrance to the physician's parking lot, before Wendy stopped you) you could have driven around the building to the back and on down to University Avenue.
Lol. The ward chipman "library" is an empty building. There was a big glass building on your right when you first drove in. That is the current library. It lacks coziness, but has a lot of nice natural light.
Thanks for my first tour of UNBSJ campus. My many trips "home" over the years when my parents were alive were spent most frequently at the Regional Hospital (mostly challenging health memories). Your lovely tour has changed those memories to more positive ones for me. Bless you for your upbeat & humorous approach to information sharing! 🙂🤗🤗🙂💖🥰😘
I understand how you feel. On our recent trip to BC, we drove by a hospital in which I spent way too many days and weeks watching my dad and then my mom slowly fading. That experience contributed to our desire for a fresh start and the opportunity to make new memories here in Saint John. My parents would have loved this city.
I am watching everyday your video. It's so great. I'm Turkish and I'm may came to there maybe one day. this channel is the best new brunswick channel. 🍻
Visiting St. John for the first time thanks to your videos. Certainly understand why you like it better than the extremely overpriced and congested West Coast.
I work in hospitals. Which one would you say is the biggest research and training hospital in the Maritimes? Would it probably be in Halifax? I enjoy my job which is part-time across a number of big teaching hospitals here in Ontario. Your videos are tempting me!
