I used to live in Renforth (just outside of St John) and went back for a visit to the area last year after being away for about 30 years... while the city hasn't changed much... still industrial at least they cleaned up the air quality a little 30 years ago you could not breath the air anywhere in the vicinity of the pulp mill in the middle of the city. Rothesay area has really grown but it has always been where the old money in the province is and Quispamsis used to be farms etc is now very built up

I've watched quite a few of your videos on Saint John. One of the things I like about them is the fact that they are filled with so much info on the city. Other videos I've seen show wonderful scenery, but the uploader never says anything in them, so I don't get the info that you guys provide. I'm in Calgary, but was born in Halifax. Now that I'm retired, I've been wanting to come back to the east coast. Maybe take a course on fictional writing. The videos and info that you share makes Saint John a wonderful place of a potential writer to live. Thanks very much for taking the time to make these videos and share them with us. Thanks.

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words. We have always wanted our videos to be about this area and not about us, so we're very happy to hear they are informative to you. We feel that Saint John is an amazing place to live and worthy of your consideration for retirement.

What I like the most about living in Saint John: Everything is pretty. I look out my window and the woods are right there, in the winter deer come hang out in our yard, the architecture of the city is like having a time machine. What I like least about living in Saint John: As Les mentioned in the video, we're a lot further from a lot of our family, so we miss participating in family get-togethers. Wendy was talking about bargain flights - Lynx Air has added a bunch of routes into NB and the prices are WAY lower than other airlines (I wonder how they make money at all), but there will always be a connection (unless you're coming from Toronto).

Yes, flights from Fredericton to Calgary with no plane change will be very helpful to a lot of people. Glad to hear you are enjoying the beauty of Saint John.

Hi Les and Wendy, wonderful to see spring in Saint John! I'm still trying to move out that way, soon I hope. The seller of the property I was looking at last year hasn't listed yet again. Keeping the faith though 😄 I love your new neighborhood with all the trees, beautiful! This was a wonderful way to end my day, thank you both for your honest feedback. Hoping to head that way again this summer 🙃

Right now in Ontario most homes are priced accurately. Most I said. I like your strategy on helping your clients understand the market. The problem is some yahoo from a rich area of the country comes in at $100k or more over ask because they can which drives up every sellers expectations and often puts properties out of reach for ppl who've lived in the area all their lives. My comments are necessarily about St John.
@WeLoveSaintJohn
@WeLoveSaintJohn Год назад
We have a good friend in Toronto who just listed their house. Their realtor told them what it was worth and then listed it 300k lower than that. It's absurd. If someone with more money than sense offers 100k over a market value priced home, more power to them. My issue is with listing the home 100k below market value just so you can say you got 30 offers.

Good tour of the city. Maybe you could do a video of the St John and Kennebacais river valley systems. I live about 45 minutes up the St John River and commute to the city everyday, and I never get tired of the scenery. Thanks for posting. Cheers.

This is one of your better videos, in my opinion, as it shows the beautiful scenery at each end of Saint John. I just very recently took possession of a beautiful lakefront property that you drove nearly right past (just off of Loch Lomond road), and spent the past two weeks there, and have found that all of what you're both saying are the positives of your move from Vancouver is immediately true. I'll be working on getting my house in Montreal ready to sell, then I'll be able to love Saint John on a full-time basis!

Hello Wendy and Les, great video! You both are absolutely correct about how many Saint Johners take their city for granted. I am a Saint Johner and been in Alberta for almost 10yrs and I am still a Saint Johner and miss it but will be home June 28th. Also plan my move to come home to work and retire eventually. My experience in Alberta has been great with no regrets of coming here to work but now can't wait to get home again. See you both soon after your vacation. When I arrive in Saint John, I will text you on your cell that's available in your info for you RU-vid channel. Thanks for the great video and love for Saint John 😊

We want to move in the next couple of years to NB. I was born in Gothenburg Sweden, and there it’s both by the ocean and also industrial since Gothenburg is an industrial blue collar city. It has a couple of beautiful food markets and in Saint John there is one too. Can you let me know what it’s called ? Saint John really reminds me of Gothenburg. I love the seaside and the delicious seafood too.

Over bids have increased market value faster than the increases in median household incomes. It's why my household with no children and over a 6 digit annual salary, can't afford a home in most places of Canada.
@WeLoveSaintJohn
@WeLoveSaintJohn Год назад
Market value is solely based on supply and demand, it has nothing to do with over bids. Over bids happen because Realtors choose to price homes well below their market value. The good news is that you can certainly afford to buy a home in beautiful Saint John.
@shawnbechard3680
@shawnbechard3680 Год назад
@@WeLoveSaintJohn No it isn't. When investors flip a home and over bid on it, they increase the market value. If a house is worth $200,000 and the investors bid $220,000, the market value is increased not just for the home being purchased but also for the surrounding area. The bad news is, I didn't want to have to move to New Brunswick in order to own a home.

@@shawnbechard3680 u are 100% correct , foreign investors here in ontario is driving the price to where eventually middle class will be consider poor
@shawnbechard3680
@shawnbechard3680 8 месяцев назад
@@cindybates68 It's not just *foreign investors, but also local investors. It's due to a lack of mixed economic policies that would allocate overbids away from market value and the fact that our homes are not built by a Tax owned housing developer. Nor are our resources like lumber obtained at cost, so when we increase construction, lumber companies increase profit due to increased demand. 1. Create a housing industry that allows the tax payers to be employed by public owned companies. This not only creates jobs, but also cuts out the conflict of interest we see with the present private companies. 2. Create public owned logging companies specifically for housing, so as to obtain all lumber at cost, while again, cutting out private industries who increase profits through increased demand. 3. Limit homes to citizens only and limit the amount each household may own at one time, in order to reduce demand. 4. Allocate all overbids towards the housing construction infrastructure, thereby souring the milk for house flipping, while simultaneously stopping overbids from increasing market value, but rather instead decreasing the money needed for future builds. 5. Neither foreign or local investors could ever legally buy a home again.

Hello - my husband and I are thinking of moving out to Saint John from Ontario. My one concern is health care - have you guys spoken about that at all? Will we be able to get a family doctor? My husband needs regular check ups and blood tests for an illness. Let me know, thanks much. P.S. We are both subscribers and enjoy your easy going manner - keep up the good work!
@WeLoveSaintJohn
@WeLoveSaintJohn Год назад
We have spoken about healthcare often in our videos. You will be able to get a family doctor but it will take time. There are over 5 million Canadians without a family doctor, this is not specific to New brunswick, it's everywhere. Not having a family doctor does not mean you won't get great healthcare though. Before and after we got a family doctor here, we received great healthcare, far better than we had in BC.

I'm looking to move back to my grandparents old house on the Laurel West Side on Upper St George Street right behind the school if anybody remembers Daigle family they will remember me and they know what house I'm talking about and I will pay anything to get it back because I have seen the house in September of 2023 and what the owners are doing to it is destroying it and the property value I want to move back to that house and fix it up and make it presentable again and to give an idea what house I'm talking about it's the only property that I know of that has a side deck and a front lawn that has a 45° angle with shrub at the top it's an ugly brown right now and it used to be a good green to match nature that's why my grandfather painted it green because not only he was in the Army he was into gardening landscaping and anything nature and I have the money to buy the house and I can afford to keep it up-to-date and not an eyesore as it looks now and if anybody remembers me on that street on the upper block they will remember who I am I know how much I want that house and I know people are going to say move on get over it let the people who live there now live their life and have a great time I'm only saying that technically I was legally allowed to keep the house when my grandfather passed away and I seen how the house looks now and it's an eyesore I know nobody else would want to buy it because the way that the owners are owning it now they're taking it apart and destroying it from the inside out and I have the money to buy it back and I'll fix it up to standards where it looks presentable I know every inch of that house I remember exactly the measurements of everything and how everything works so to the people who run this Channel on RU-vid if you do find out about this place and if it's for sale again let me know

I would rather get splinters on my fingernails than move to Saint John. Moncton is way better because its surrounded by beautiful scenery and has many popular attractions such as Magnetic hill, hopewell rocks, magic mountain, petitcodiac river and way more. The city is home to variety of cultural events throughout the year, from music festivals to art exhibition that showcase local talents. Also Moncton has earned the nickname "Hub City" because of its central inland location in the region and its history as a railway and land transportation hub for the maritimes. The greater Moncton area is home to the largest mall in all of atlantic Canada and it has the largest and busiest airport in new brunswick so that means it has way more options than the small saint john airport. The city of moncton is a hot spot for tech innovation and has a really big casino in the north end. Moncton also has the best jobs in new brunswick.Thats why Moncton is the fastest growing city in Canada and the most populated in New Brunswick. Soon Fredrecton will overtake Saint John as the second most populated city in New Brunswick because saint john is just foggy, polluted, ugly, boring has nothing and the city's economy is lacking unlike Moncton. My top 3 cities in New brunswick right now would be Moncton, Fredrecton and Miramichi. Edit: I forgot to mention that Moncton is only 15 minutes to the best, warmest beaches in Canada and its close to pei and nova scotia. Also Moncton has their own university like Fredrecton and its the second best university in new brunswick unlike saint john that just has a small campus of the university of new brunswick.
@WeLoveSaintJohn
@WeLoveSaintJohn 11 месяцев назад
The best thing about Moncton is that it's only a 90 minute drive to Saint John. But, I guess if you like malls, casinos and the ease of getting the hell out of Moncton to better places, then Moncton is the place to be.
