I think the difference is a job vs a incredibly high stress, longer than 8 hour experience with tons of money on the line. Not saying that jobs can't be high stress, like I have mad respect for EMTs and firefighters but having a desk job at 8am and a supermajor tournament at 8am are vastly different in terms of stress. As a college student I sure wouldn't want a final at 8am. I can't blame anyone for complaining about this sort of thing.

What you're suggesting is giving an advantage to people just because they're known while the rest are at a disadvantage. That makes it unfair.

@@fianle and thats a problem because? Why should Tokido be held to the same standard compared to someone who just signed up for pools because they happened to live in the area? People that wants to break out in any field has to muddle through some hardships in the beginning. As an example every famous musician or comedian has at some point done gigs for no money at some shitty pub/bar in the hopes that someone will notice them.

Just because something happens in a different area it doesn't make it right. It doesn't matter if someone is famous or not, they are all competing in the same tournament for the same prize. Justin Wong, the person who asked the question, even said that if he was late signing into a tournament he has told the organizers to disqualify him because he knows how difficult it is running these tournaments.

Again, i dont see the problem with giving famous player some favoritism, the bottom line is that we viewers watch these tournaments for high skill gameplay and to watch our favorite players. Sponsors knows this and whats why they are willing to pay for their hotels/flights etc etc, in return the players will wear/use their merch on camera. Basically its in the viewers, sponsors and tournament organizers interest to keep the players healthy and happy. If a fan favorite is not able to perform to their best due to any reason both viewers and sponsors will be unhappy. Also if a no name guy beats a famous person when hes not at his best the no name guy will have his results legitimacy questioned by the viewers. Basically theres many reasons to cut top players some slack, especially when they live in a totally different timezone. And id argue its not that unfair. If youve climbed to the top you deserve some accolades. The new guys have the same opportunity to produce results and benefit from those perks aswell. The current OGs in SFV like Daigo where basically shunned by their societies before gaming was considered cool and they pushed through that and become champions so now they deserve some slack imo. Ofc if possible i would like everyone signing up for the tournament to have as good time as possible but sometimes its not possible when you have hundreds of sign ups. But giving the seeded players some slack in that they can show up to the venue later is totally okay to me because its basically guaranteed they _ will_ show up if they signed up for the tournament where as theres no such guarantee that John Doe will. I mean they are already spreading the famous players out evenly across the pools so they dont run into each other early, thats also unfair. Everyone should draw lots for pool groups, total fairness... right?

Being famous should not warrant getting an undeserved advantage (yes, it is undeserved if they're being given special treatment just for being famous since that does not equal skill). The players who are not famous have shown that they are just as capable of giving great performances just like the famous players, and we have seen that time and time again at these tournaments. You also run into the issue of who gets this special treatment. If you limit it to sponsored players that would make very little sense because at times you'd be leaving out players like Du, Punk, K-Brad, Mizuha, etc. You'd also be giving special treatment to players who aren't that strong as sponsors have gone on record stating that it's not only skill they look at when sponsoring players. And yes, it is in all of their interests to keep the players healthy and happy. Which includes all of the players, and not just someone's favourite. Having to wake up at a regular time (7am is a regular time) isn't just for the famous players so both players are being asked to play at "less than 100%". The people who even started this debate live in the same country that the tournament is taking place in, have a short flight, and are barely affected by timezones. The Japanese players who were asked by Chris T were not given the full picture and were simply asked if they'd like the tournament to start later, which would result in a yes for many because who wants to wake up at 7am if they have a choice? But it completely ignores the fact that there are various people responsible for running the tournament, people in various countries who want to watch it live, union laws to follow, and the fact people have jobs to get back to on Monday. It is also not basically guaranteed that they will show up. The person responsible for setting the 8am registration time even said that the only person who regularly shows up on time has been Justin. This was probably an embellishment, but that should give you an idea. Having to wonder whether or not someone is going to show up affects how the tournament is going to proceed throughout the day so they would like to have confirmation as soon as possible since their work doesn't end there. That last part isn't the same as letting top players get more rest than others since that gives them a clear advantage. Not all tournaments are run the way you're talking about, especially not the one that's at the centre of the debate.
