They want those aspects in street fighter. Of course they would complain about it being absent in the new street fighter. My opinion of SFV is compared to other street fighter games it’s lackluster. I don’t think I should be shamed for having that opinion. I play tekken, samsho, soul caliber and I like those games but I’d like for street fighter to also be something I like, because I love all the old ones. I feel as if dudes like sajam and max just want everyone to like every fighting game and that’s an unrealistic expectation. That mindset is just as bad as everyone shitting on everything.

@@Manlypitts They don't want people to 'like' every fighting game. They want people to stop mindlessly bitching and crying about things that there are solutions for. If you don't like the gameplay of a new Street Fighter, play the older ones. They're addressing the toxic elitist 'If you don't play this game you aren't a real FG player" or "If you aren't good at this one game then you're trash at all fighting games'. You can not like a game, that's perfectly fine. But don't shit on people for liking or not liking certain games. Plus there are people who only want to play a single their entire lives until the the heat death of the universe. That's what they're talking about, the elitist, cult like behavior of some FG players. People who just talk shit about everything and ruin the experience for everyone else

I think when SF4 is taken away and you don't like SFV, it's really easy to think back "I didn't know how well I had it" and you begin to accept certain flaws for SF4. If we all went back to playing SF4 we would harp on those flaws again, of course. It's just the nature of humans

Funny you say that, cause it happens with CVS2. CVS2 comes on stream "Oh my god, this game was so SICK, so HYPE. Man I miss this game." Yet when it was out, all they moaned about was Sagat, Morrigan's sprites, the crappy backgrounds, timeouts, long tournaments. Now it's become the FGC's darling somehow. Hah.

ownagemunky That's not what I remember. I watched almost every event in 2015 and the chat were pretty much always hype, even at smaller events. Even at the King of New York, which was the last SF4-centric tournament in America (i.e. right before the release of SFV), the chat were still hype. The main place that I remember seeing a lot of anti-SF4 sentiment was Eventscrubs. Go figure.

The negativity usually starts off with someone ranting with "When XX game is going to come out it's going to ABSOLUTELY DESTORY SFV/MVC:I/CAPCOM". Then the game comes out, get's lots and lots of views for the first 2-3 weeks all the while those people are going to SFV streams typing "SFV is dead Lul". Then numbers decline or even out and see that SFV numbers have stayed the same and those people get even more angry it hasn't completely died at that point and proceed to then do the same thing about the next new game that comes out or just continuously shit on all Capcoms DLC. That's not to say the SF community isn't without fault always whining about dropping SFV and yet they end up still playing it. We all know how bad the launch was for this game and the first year for was, but it just gets to a point of how bad can one hate a game and why games can't co-exist? I honestly see this with Tekken players [Not Top] in general shitting on any game that's not Tekken, and any criticism of Tekken will only result in a bunch of online insults lol. Then we have the whole FGC vs. Smash stupidity still going on which is a whole bunch of other BS in itself but I guess my main point is it's okay to dislike a game if it's just not your thing, but is it really worth telling everyone and going to streams or company accounts ect. just to let everyone know you hate it until the end of time? This goes for everyone

People just let others decide what they like/hate for them. They bandwagon the fuck out of things and don't think for themselves. So many people are like, "Street Fighter V is the worst, what a fucking awful game, don't play it," to new players, but then they turn around and play it anyway. I've just stopped listening to other people's opinions on these things. I played Injustice (and other NRS titles to a lesser extent) - I hated the controls and gameplay, loved the story mode and character designs. I mostly play GG, but it's hard to find people to play, so I end up playing lots of SFV, but I would never hate on other games. Different strokes for different folks, man.

I enjoy a lot of fighting games (starting paying attention to the scene in 2010 with SF4, moved on to SFxT briefly, then Marvel 3, played Injustice for a bit, and then sorta faded off until INJ2 came out). I don't really have the passion that I used to have for the genre I had back in college when I felt like I had the time to practice and get better all the time. I don't really have that anymore, but I still enjoy the games as a spectator. I must have just been lucky in my local community, but I avoided a lot of the negativity of Street Fighter players being unwilling to try other games. It sucks that this kind of attitude has become pervasive in that community. Could also be a result of Capcom IN GENERAL not giving people what they want, even outside of fighting games, and that frustration leading to lashing out in other places. But it's a shame. My favorite time as a fighting game player EVER was moving to Aquaman in Injustice and realizing how BUSTED and FUN the character was for me, having a completely different and unique experience that I couldn't have in SFIV. I wish other people could open their minds to that.

This is true. FGC negativity is just disgusting. What i see lately with the "Capcom needs to make SF VI asap" comment is another repeat with SF III and SF IV. Back then a lot of people hated SF III because there's only 4 classic characters and parry system makes zoning useless + Chun / Yun / Makoto are broken and dominating the scenes. People asked Capcom for a new SF and when SF IV came out - after the series been hiatus for 8 frickin years - people hated it too and complaint Capcom needs to fix this and that in SF V. Capcom listen to the complaint and made SF V exactly like the people request and boom! people hated SF V. Just watch, it will be the same bitching again when SF VI released. And for me, SF was my 1st fighting games but i never blocked myself from other fighting games. Which is why i played a lot of titles either 2D or 3D like KoF, Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, SamSho, The Last Blade, Power Stone, Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, Battle Arena Toshinden, Soul Edge / Calibur, Tekken, VF, GG, BlazBlue, MK, Pocket Fighter, etc.

The negativity has always been around, and the biggest franchise also feels the brunt. I remember people hating on all the SFIIIs, including 3S. I remember people hating on every edition of SFIV, acting like it's the death of SF as we know it. And with SFV, some of the hate is deserved, because it wasn't a quality product for some time, but it's slowly getting there. And it's sad because I like SFV at its core, and I hated SFIV. I was the loser playing BlazBlue while everyone was playing SFIV. Now I'm the only person in my immediate friend group who still plays SF at all. But what I also remember is the hate going the other way. The blind SF zealotry. People who would hate on everything BUT SF. People who wouldn't give anything a try, simply because it wasn't SF. It's so funny to see how things have changed, with other game series outpacing SF in terms of quality. So I can resonate with what Sajam is saying. I'd go to my local scene and there's literally no one playing GGXrd. If Jammerz wasn't around, good luck trying to get SFxT setup. And unless you were there to play DDR, you better be playing SFIV or else you wasted your trip. Remember 'When's Mahvel'? When people ACTUALLY wanted MVC more than whatever was on stream? So it's a multi-faceted issue. People hate on SF, deserved or not, and people hate on everything but SF, deserved or not. The one thing that has changed is the narrative; the prestige SF once has is different, and my friends and casual players who normally would hold SF in high regard, don't. Difference is, they didn't move on to other fighters, they just moved on. And that's another thing; some people aren't fighting game fans, they're SF fans. And that possibly feeds the zealotry and hatred on both sides too. Lots of think about.

I've never understood the fanboy mindset, but I've been a multigamer for the longest time now. Probably ever since I started gaming. SF and MK were my first fighters as a child but even when I really got into gaming in my teens it was always spread out. It just seems so dull to restrict yourself to one game or one franchise. This happens all the time with people. I bought the first Blazblue literally on a whim after seeing it on Justin.tv back in the day. It was completely unique to my Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter brain at the time. And I'm glad I did. Because it opened my mind to that niche side of fighting games here in the US and showed me how different this genre could be played. I would imagine some people are just simple, they want their favorite characters in their favorite style of fighting game and if you take any of those ingredients away their brain just recoils in disgust at the thought. And for those people there's not much you can do for them other than bribe or force them to try your game until it clicks that all games have their merits. It's funny actually, with Capcom at it's lowest ever in terms of fighting games these fanboys are finally starting to feel forced to try other stuff, so there's probably been a lot more people opening their minds to other games.

Basic Elitism experience, the problem in the case of the FGC is that its very obvious who's the best and why they're better and people tend to argue about who's the best amongst a bunch of comparitively terrible players. Elitism is something that works as a means of defining hierarchy where there is none; so old school Multiplayer before E-Sports basically which did originally include fighting games; but moreso stuff like Starcraft where you could have a scene of 10k people playing a specific custom map at a high level and elitism plus results was a good way to determine who was the best. But since the dawn of E-Sports elitism is just stupid trash where terrible petty players argue with other terrible petty players about who is less terrible.

Hey there, thanks for the entertaining content. You made the example about being frustrated with one game and moving to greener pastures. Do you think people that complain about their game might be in that same state of mind, but do not have the motivation to switch because they are already deeply invested in their main game? I'm just wondering if this kind of attitude might stem from the highly competitive nature of fighting games. From what I have got so far, the fundamentals apply to all games across the genre, but specific mechanics and matchups knowledge seem really important skills at high level. I feel like it might sound easier for some people to dismiss another game rather than switch and learn the ropes again by getting your ass kicked for a while, particularly in a scene in which status seems to matter to some. The fact that people generally switch when a new game comes out might also be a hint. I am first and foremost a video game fanatic, and have been introduced to the scene by a more experienced friend. Have been watching stuff literally night and day for the past year or so, and it has been a lot of fun to get to know all the personalities invested in this scene. Playing SFV only at the moment; I am a total bronze scrub, but I have been able to beat people jumping forward and swiping all the time 4 out of 5 recently. It took me 60+ hours to get there, and countless hours of videos and tutorials. I've been feeling like switching recently though, but the idea of starting all over is daunting. I do realise I am trying to perceive the situation from a beginner point of view, but I can't even imagine how difficult it might be for someone that has invested 1k+ hours (and emotions) to switch game. Thanks again for the content, and keep up the good work and attitude.

It's two years later and this discussion is still very relevant. I think people don't bother asking themselves if they're having fun. Most of the people who state these binary opinions about games don't play them competitively at all. I played some SFV and I wasn't having fun so I dropped it and went off to play a different game. MKX is probably one of my favorite fighting games of all time and I know for a fact that it's really stupid on a competitive level. The game is insanely focused on offensive play and 50/50 mixups... But at the end of the day, it's incredibly fun. This is why I like watching Maximilian - he's the guy who asks this question about literally every game he touches - is it fun? And Max is really good at fighting games. People keep asking him why he doesn't compete anymore and he keeps saying the same thing - playing competitively is stressful and it takes the fun out of playing the game that you love.

Believe it or not, the cancel culture is alive and well in the FGC, it went from a community of passionate gamers just having fun with general experiences and opening to new ideas to a polarized travesty of a community taken over by a huge bunch of narrow minded, partisan, contemptible morons that love to destroy franchises integrities as well as force into other peoples faces what makes a good fighting game and what doesn't, and it's hard to enjoy the community anymore because of it. No amount of combo breakers, Evos, or CEOs can save it from the dumpster fire it has become that just gets worse and worse every year. It's become like the polarized U.S. politics, standing their ground harshly on whats right and fucking up other people that dont think the same, it's like black lives matter but with fighting games, and it's pathetic, now its like "Combo games matter", wasting their energy on blind hatred of mainstream games for the stupidest reasons imaginable, like "complex combinations or no deal" or the obnoxious "2D graphics or no deal"(3D has a right to exist, it should not be a goddamn privilege). It's not become about opinions anymore, it's about cancelling other people because they enjoy something that they despise aggressively, doing their hardest to make people an embarrassment when they are the embarassment themselves for acting like such immature degenerates. Street Fighter has the most toxic community I have ever seen it become, and it's the most popular fighting game franchise of all time, but now the entitled, elistist morons are ruining it good, and it shows. SFV doesn't deserve the dishonor and disgust that it's getting, they literally solved all the problems that plagued SFIV, and it shows, obviously. The combat is fine, the roster is excellent, the new characters are an improvement over IV, the soundtrack is godlike, and the graphics are so much better, the general experience was a lot better. I used to like SFIV, I dislike it, but i used to defend it, but then I never looked back after SFV came out, and I will continue to enjoy it and play it for years to come, even the 5th and final season. If I could give the current state of this whiny ass community a Shin-Shoryuken, I would, it's that bad. Mortal Kombat has also become such a trash community as well, I couldn't believe such a passionate community could sink this low, and its all because of MK11 in which it, again, doesn't deserve the disgust given to the game, it's unbelieveable. 11 is the second best MK game ever, with MK9 being the best out of all of them. MK11 gets all sorts of stupid accusations like "It doesn't have combos" or "it's dull", when has ever a part of the kombat happen to be "dull"? that is a bunch of bullshit as it plays like a dream, unlike the kombat system in MKXL relies way too much on drawn out kombos, as awesome as they are, it deviates from what Mortal Kombat is, it wasn't too much about kombos, it was all about neutral and mind games, and that is what MK11 does perfectly, it's a mixture of MK2 and MK9, nobody could ever go wrong with MK2 and nobody could ever go wrong with MK9, and now the two games fused together with interesting mechanics creating an interesting experience, and it's still not enough? what a disgrace! MK11 was never a garbage game to begin with because it done many things so much better than MKX and MK Deception kombined. Now there is a prolific amount of people that encourage toxicity and shitting other people to defend their annoying beliefs. I feel so bad for the developers that put their heart and soul into MK11 to make it feel acceptable to the masses instead of being viewed as a bully victim for cancellation. Killer Instinct has the biggest downfall of a community I ever seen, turning it from a community of people who are passionate about the game and it's history, to nothing but a bunch of narrow-minded hypocrites, creating a cult that has successfully shitted on the legacy of the new Killer Instinct, which is one of the best fighting games of today, I honestly don't give a shit what their budget is to develop the game, it was unlike anything I ever played. As soon they started introducing ultimates into Killer Instinct, the community just went down the fucking drain into a vile, dumpster fire, shitting on the devs for something out of their control. Iron Galaxy has done a lot of justice to this game than Double Helix could ever hope to achieve, DH literally brought back the game but were so lazy in their offerings, like keeping it exclusive to XBOX one which I thank the gods Iron Galaxy has brought this game out of exclusivity and into pc via MS or Steam, season 1's retros, few of them sucked, there were a myriad of unpolished stuff and glitches in the game, I could go on and on. I could not bring myself to forgive the community for what it has become, i'm not exaggerating, regardless of the #bringbackki bringing back people to appreciating the game for what it is again. Once again, I feel for the developers that have to put up with death threats and comments while developing the game over the years. Adam Heart was right on his tweet saying that Fighting gamers are the worst, he wasn't fooling at all, it's ridiculous! The cancel culture for the FGC has gotta fucking stop, it's gotten way too out of hand, much like the George Floyd protests with too much rage and entitlement, it's only gonna get worse and worse if nothing is to be done! #stopcommunitytoxicity

I love to watch SF, but can't play it. Playing Street Fight is for some ungodly reason very dull for me, I can't feel the fun like which I feel when playing Blazblue, MVC, Skullgirls etc. However, I really love to watch people good at SF play the game, lots of hype.

Here is an idea, how about a balanced tournament... Like an "all Ken" or "all Juri" tournament to see who is the best at their character.(everyone who enters plays the same character) Do this for every character and the winners of these "character" tournaments compete as their respective character against the other winners...
@guesswho180
@guesswho180 5 лет назад
An “All Ken” doesn’t result in the winner being the best Ken. All it shows is who is the best at mirror matches while ignoring the rest. Match ups are a big part of fighting games.
@iSoryu
@iSoryu 5 лет назад
Guess Who YES! A mirror match is just another matchup, you may lose the mirror but win against 80% of the cast whereas your opponent may win vs 60% which going off of how many matchups you win would make you the better player

Speaking for myself as a person relatively new to fighting games the major problem is people getting good with their mains. Instead of encouraging new up & coming players, EGO'S become involved Testosterone becomes involved, & something that should be fun turns into something that hurts the soul.

There are a bunch of reasons why people don't want to play NRS games. One of them is the animation, which is 100 times funnier than SFV's hair clipping. The other is that the NRS community is known for not coming out to their own game. The last reason is one that NRS players complain about and that's the frequent balance changes.

True that. It seems that whenever someone tries to say anything positive about any of Capcom's most recent fighting titles, be it SFV or MvCI, they get downvoted, trolled, and ridiculed by either Tekken fanatics and/or DBFZ fanatics who defend their games like they're the messiah of fighting games. The only fighting game that I've really hated was Soul Calibur V for removing most of the iconic cast and replacing most of them with unlikable clones thanks to the completely unnecessary time skip, not to mention the lack of single-player content (no Museum mode, which was a staple for the series since SC1, being one of them), a story mode that reeked of incest fan fiction levels, and the worst and most unlikable main characters to ever grace a video game to date (Seriously, fuck Patroklos and Pyrrha). At least Capcom plans to support their most recent fighting games for many years despite what the negative nancies think. 🙄

Is it possible that after SFV, this mentality shifted from other fighting games to Smash, mostly considering the onesided hate relationship the FGC has with the Smash Community.

I appreciate all fighters. Each one is unique in it's own way. Each game has ups and downs according to the individuals opinion. A lot of people knocked SFV due to lack of content but I could care less, I just wanted to play people online. I do understand that there are people out ther who want to play offline modes. I'm sure it's difficult to make these games and hard to please everyone. I do argue though that with this gen, every fighting game should have quality online.

The first fighting game that I bought day 1 and played heavily was Inj2. Since then got obsessed with fighting games... MvCI, Samsho V SP, SFV, Dragonball, Blazblue, etc. I will say - though it was my first - Inj2 is by far the most whack. I still like it, but I def. prefer all the others I listed except maybe MvCI. I’ll still buy and play Inj3, anyways, hah. Just maybe not as a “main game”.

Injustice to me just looks hella ugly. And like you said in videos on choosing a character, "Pick someone you think looks cool." Well if nobody looks cool because they all look ugly... Also, "Just try it" is a lot easier when it doesn't come with a $50 price tag to try it. I'd love if fighting games gave us some sort of basic demo mode to try it before dropping full price.

That's what I said all the time, what Sajam say here........I love SFV (fight me don't care)....and I LOVE many fighting games as well, Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator is right now the most fun I have playing a fighting game in recent years...and that is playing alone vs the CPU......I don't hate MK or Injustice but I just don't really care to watch them......neither I would EVER go to a video of MKX to shit about the game, why do that if you don't like the game? I see people saying shit about SFV and Im like....why you even HERE watching SFV if you HATE IT? just ignore the game and support the one you love.....I never enter or comment or dislike a video of MKX, or Injustice 2...well actually did one time, when Deadshoot zooning was ass XD....but that was it, and I think I did it because I hated so much the assholes who go to SFV vids that I wanted give it some negativity back....but after that I find that pointless, I rather spend time watching and supporting the videos or events or streams of people who enjoy the games I like, the SFV, the Guilty Gears, the KOF, the Last Blade, etc....I dont get that attitude of shit on a game you dislike or not play, if you don't then just ignored that game.....is that not more negative to the game you dislike, just ignored its existence? Look for example, DBFighterZ is growing, I'm ass at that game but I enjoy watching the game a lot, and the game probably eclipse SFV at EVO, but because people are supporting that game just DO THAT, is better and healthy, support the game you love, ignored the one you are indifferent or plain out hate, that keep everyone on its place and enjoy the shit they like, but the FGC just fucking love to destroy shit, and that's the part I never like of this community.

i always laught maniacly everytime i hear that people hated SF4 and was desperated for SFV to save everything, because seems like everyone forgot that! I played FGs all my life but i never cared about been good or learning them, i was a counter-strike player, pretty good in fact, i played LATAM majors before e-sports was a thing back in 2004/05, so when i decided to learn about FGs i was SHOCKED how everyone was mad with SF4 and by the time(early 2014) my view about SF4 was that game should be everything what people was saying what a good fighting game should be(footsies, zonning, ground, technical), and still, they were hating the game. Honestly, there is a bunch of retardads in this community that we just tolerate because we have that feeling that FGC is too small and may die if we start to put a finger on those idiots faces, i hope that now we are growing in numbers we start to cast out those cancers. Obviously SFV has problems, but people seems to have more fun ranting on their games(no matter which one) than playing them.

I really wanted to like Injustice because I love DC and fighting games, but I hate how the game feels. It never feels satisfying to move, press a button, or do anything. I hated that there was no projectile collision existed so it became every easy to be spaced out and the game just punished not always being offensive. The game felt wack to me. Maybe its because I started fighting games with anime fighting games where I am used to fluidity and being able to cancel my attacks to anything and having so much free form style with my characters.

On the topic of Injustice: There are like three major reasons I believe people dump on it, from at least a spectators point of view: One: The art is ass, plain and simple. Backgrounds are too busy, faces look like dumpster fires, animations are jank; the game is just not fun to look at. Wholly the developers fault on this one, the criticisms have been there since day zero of Injustice 1. This isn't a DC-exclusive issue; Marvel Infinite is getting the same bad reception. Hire better artists! Two: The zoning is very boring, and not because it's "lame." Look at Dante's and Deadpool's bullets in UMVC3, and then compare them to the bullets in Injustice. This somewhat ties into the first point, but zoning in Injustice 2, at least early in its life, was heavy and visually boring. Partially the fault of the developers again, but a lot of DC characters rely on bullets so I can't hoist the blame solely on them. Three: DC movies, outside of Wonder Woman (which was amazing) and The Dark Knight (Thanks to Ledger) have been awful. Completely out of the hands of developers, fully on WB. The brand is damaged because its been bombarded with trash movie after trash movie. The average person doesn't associate DC with quality and they aren't going to want to watch (or play competitively) a game starring characters from bad movies. Hopefully after the well-received Wonder Woman WB pulls its head out of its ass and starts actually trying, and by the time Injustice 3 rolls around Nether Realms hires better artists and DC movies have turned around.

It’s certainly a deal breaker for a lot of people. Smooth fighting game animations are certainly a high priority because you need very clear strong feedback when playing. That being said if people enjoy the mechanics and are willing to overlook the animations then enjoy it. No shame. For me the combos which aren’t real time really bother me.

It just looks like total garbage despite having some of the best graphics of the current gen, and definitely the best among fighting games. Visuals matter alot in fighting games. Everyone wrote off KoF14 and MVC:I because they looked like shit. Not saying those are bad games, but it certainly is a deal breaker.

My take on the negativity issue is that so many players were introduced to fighting games through the SF4 series where they seriously invested their time and money, made new friends, etc. But then SF5 released and it was just too much of a drop off from SF4 in numerous ways. So all these players felt cheated and couldn't just let things go since SF is a huge part of their lives. They needed to make sure people knew that they felt hurt and cheated. Actually the same thing happened when Brawl released, only difference is that the Melee scene is still thriving.
