SAK scissors are brilliant but don’t fret without them, just use the blade, right!?

Follow-up to my last vid asking if scissors are an essential tool on your SAK. This is just a bit of fun really, but I do maintain you can get by in most situations without the scissors.
I would, however, advise AGAINST using the main blade for trimming your nose hair - you do really want the scissors for that 👍

I mostly use them to cut my nails. I guess if you are ambidextrous, a knife may work. But the scissors are much quicker and safer. I carry a classic on my keychain just in case I forget my larger SAK since I am a musician and need to trim my nails often.

I almost lost the end of my finger opening a lollipop, with a knife, for my 5 year old 😖 It’s the least used tool on any of my SAKs. I’d love a 91mm Waiter with scissors instead of the blade (I’m not sure if the combo tool and scissors would sit together).

I’m a guitar player and also need to keep my nails short - hate trying to play with longish nails! I’d never actually advise using the knife blade for nail cutting if any other option was available, just wanted to show it is possible in this video ✌️

Would rather have scissors in the SAK. Scissors allow you to be more precise, to do smaller tasks, to cut paper. You could so some of those tasks with a knife but it's not as efficient. It's also safer. Let's say I wanted to cut off a piece of loose string in front of my neck or at the top of my shorts. Uh, you could use a knife, but I wouldn't. I'd just use scissors.

Yeah, the scissors are really great for precise &/or detailed stuff for sure 👍 Just to check, though: remember to always cut AWAY from your neck or groin area!! lol 🤪😝

Provided the blade is sharp those techniques work. However if the blade isn't sharp and you're trying to open something with loose contents, such as a bag of macaroni, or a pack of coffee, it can get messy! Speaking from experience here. So I almost always have a pair of SAK scissors on hand. Also I tend to notice freakish hairs coming out of an earlobe, nostril or even just my head lol and the Vic scissors are perfect to get rid of those. Cutting nails too is something I wouldn't want to do with a knife blade even if it's hair-popping sharp. Today I was off work and pining for the countryside but I'm in the city. My EDC was Vic Farmer together with a rareish camo scaled 74mm Ambassador (for the scissors and a backup blade), and Knipex Cobra XS. I've used both Victorinox a few times today already, but not the Knipex (yet), but I really don't notice it's there so no problem with carrying it too. I do have a Farmer X by the way but it's a bit of a brick. The standard Farmer , and the Ambassador are both pretty slim so nice in the pocket. Also this combo gives me the addition of scale tools, nailfile and backup blade.

Yes, scissors are great for trimming rogue hair! I really like the alox farmer - put off the farmer x by the size/weight though. And I did have an ambassador many years ago - no idea where that went to: good model, I reckon! The Knipex XS are brilliant - I’m not carrying them around as edc as much anymore if I’m just around home, etc, but I always take them if going further afield. If you do find yourself needing a pair of pliers there’s nothing else which will do the job! 👍

Using Rally myself, would love to have scissors but Rambler is 2x more expensive and that's not something i would justify (not losing screwdriwer/bottle opener tool, to get Classic)

The Rambler seems to have gone up in price to the point where the Manager was previously - quite frustrating! Not sure what Victorinox are thinking with the 58mm range at the moment… 🤷‍♂️

It's like driving in a nail with a stone or turning a bolt with pliers. Wrong tool.

Just for general day to day stuff the knife is usually far quicker imho 👍 Some of this vid was just for laughs really: for example, I wouldn’t use the blade to cut my nails as a rule, just wanted to show it can be done with the knife if you really had to 🙂
