HUGE WATCHES ARE STUPID! :) :) I'm glad there are others like me. If you wear a watch why would you want it to weigh you down and get in the way?! I have to admit i own a 36mm Rolex Explorer (1016) which Many call small but when wearing it in any activity it never gets in the way!! Small and legible is all you want and need. Wear the F91 with pride..no Compensating required ;)

I agree 100%!! 👍 All the older classic Rolex and old military watches were smaller and I think soooo much more stylish than today’s monstrosities! I do sometimes wonder at the big watch overcompensation…! lol 🤣🤔

I like the Compact, it's a good tool(s), but certainly not as great as it's made out to be for that price.. worth it... eh.. maybe, just depends on the person. With that statement, however, I do currently have 4 compacts, and a 5th in parts that i'm using to make another custom SAK. Keep in mind as well that I purchased all of these in great condition for about 25 USD each at different times. Personally, if they still made the 84mm Golfer that is basically the Waiter there with a Scissors layer they'd be golden. I actually have two 84mm Scissor Layers that I rescued from old SAKs that had broken blades or just trashed over all and am using them to make a couple of custom 84mm's for my Father and I. I also like the 74mm Executive but again, discontinued. Realistically, I carry a Pioneer X most days for general use when I don't feel I require a lock back knife.

I recently inherited this watch, so it has some sentimental value to me. It had a broken strap. First, i tried to print a replacement with tpu filament, but I couldn't get anything decent coming out of the 3d printer. Then, I was wandering around Walmart and saw the same watch with the better led on sale for $24 . Next, I saw a similar band for a timex watch for $15 bucks. Naturally, I bought the strap and replaced it. The timex stap is very similar to the original casio band but a little thicker than the original, so hopefully willing, it will last a long time.

2 years ago I discovered Florinox Kiana, made in Thiers - the French knife capital. French reviewers called it the 21st century Opinel - and I agree. Lightweight, great grip, great lock, fantastic blade for less than 20€ It doesn't look threatening, just a better modern look Opinel with a slightly more robust blade and therefore a little heavier than a similarly sized Opinel. I got the half serrated version in white. I love it. I rarely carry it, it is not an EDC knife, more of a camper and hiker knife. Otherwise a non-locking UK legal version could be a slipjoint Otter Mercator knife or a Douk Douk. Very slim, great looking blades, slipjoint...

Just like yourself, I always carry a 58mm. Therefore the question is answered. Any other SAK is creating a combo :-) When thinking about a combination of SAKs, start with the 58mm, not the other way round.
@fastandcurious
@fastandcurious 7 дней назад
I agree, they (big) scissors often are not needed, but I think your best point is actually the criticism of the Compact. 1 - To me the Compact is overpriced. 2 - I find the 58mm scissors far more useful. 3 - the pen function of the 58mm is far more practical and ergonomical with the combo tool out than 91mm hack to hold the pen. 4 - The 58mm Combo tool is far better then the 91mm Combo tool. 5 - I also agree that the 91mm Combo tool is less useful than the opening layer tools of normal Vic SAKs. I needed quite a long time to appreciate and experience the cap lifter and can opener as very practical and useful tools, but not necessarily as features that the name designation suggests. I personally have used the Bantam Alox as main blade in combination with a Minichamp. The Bantam Alox is amazingly thin and lightweight. But.. I rarely used the Combo tool and I missed the dedicated tools of the opening layer. You are right, the Cadet is the more practical tool compared to the Compact! Currently I went a step further: the Minichamp became my main SAK. Only occasionally do I couple it with a 91mm Ranger or Handyman. I found that the Minichamop is more than good enough for my urban EDC kit coupled with screwdriver tools as well as a Knipex XS.

My favorite (but more expensive) combo is a Pioneer and a Swiss Card Nail Care in my wallet. This way I get the "proper" basic tools (dedicated openers, big blade, in-line reamer) in a sturdy but thin alox package, and in my wallet I have even more useful little gadets, like magnifying glass and ruler in addition to the extra tools of the Compact. And I have zero redundant tools.

Sportsman is my EDC. I love my Cadet and still pocket that most of the time inside the house, but the Sportsman is the ultimate for me because: 1. It is a Cadet, but with added scale tools, awl and corkscrew, for less money. 2. It’s thicker which makes it feel way more comfortable and secure in the hand. Cadet’s ultra slim profile turned out to be, for me, a weakness, much to my surprise. 3. It looks more iconic and recognisable ie. friendly. Never underestimate the UK public’s ability to be weirded out by a pocket knife, even a tiny and elegant one like a Cadet. Red cellidor with corkscrew on it puts people at ease. 4. Relative to other models, it is the sweet spot of utility to form factor (and cost). I like minimalism, but not to the point of using the multi-function opener thing (eg Compact, Bantam) which is too compromised, does several things but does them all badly. Sportsman’s standout feature in toolset is the nail file, weirdly not common enough across popular models. I love it for small Phillips screws, and I need to maintain my nails because I’m a guitarist and rock climber.

I haven’t bought anything from Temu, but I use Aliexpress every so often. I usually get really cheap versions of things for several of my hobbies to see if I want/use the thing before investing money into something from a decent brand. I haven’t had any issues. The little LED lights often don't draw enough power to keep a power bank turned on, so they only work properly in a completely dumb power bank or one that has a low power mode for charging earbuds and the like. I bought a few myself but to be honest I never use them because I've always got a Rovyvon in my pocket. And why do those charging leads always have lightning connectors? I like the leads that are made for people like me who are completely allergic to Apple products ha ha.

I have some Apply stuff & some non-Apple so this cable is a good idea in theory for me. Its a bit bulky though & not fast charging, so nice idea but not brilliant in use. Oh well, I guess that's what you get for spending £2 i suppose :o)

Adding to this I would say that because SAK's are very well known, any aiprport security officer might decide to take it off you giving any excuse. Last year I came through security at East Midlands airport in the UK and totally forgot I was carrying a Rough Rider Peanut. It's a small knife with 2 blades, max 5cm length. Security stopped me and wanted to inspect it. They measured the blade and told me I was ok to take it through. The crazy thing was the security man actually nicked his finger when he closed it because it has a tight spring and I keep it sharp. Amazing I was allowed to pass seeing he actually cut himself!

@accoutrements4469 8 дней назад
Ha, that’s a great story! Bonkers that he still let you through with it after that! Sounds like you got security checked by one of the good ones! 👍 I’ve had them confiscate a few things on my travels, some of it because they just ‘don’t like the look of it’, even without any blades whatsoever…
@jamesHiggin5

@@accoutrements4469 well I don't know if it means anything but it seems like most airports won't allow any form of tools in hand luggage. I suppose any security officer could condem a SAK for having "tools". I actually checked this flying from a Spanish airport recently and they will allow knives and scissors with a blade shorter than 6cm like you say in the video, but no tools. Maybe that's how I got my small knife through...but like you I wouldn't want to test that theory with an expensive knife!
@accoutrements4469

thanks for the useful comments once again :o) It's not much of an issue if you're checking baggage i suppose but if just doing carry-on then i DO like to always have an EDC tool on me like I do in every other day of my life, so, yeah, there's just always that risk you're going to lose it isn't there. It's just frustrating & feels a bit arbitrary - i mean, almost ANYTHING could be used as a weapon if that was the intention (a Bic Biro, a rolled up magazine, a belt, i dunno, anything you could use your imagination for i guess...) so it seems daft when you're penalised for carrying a little keyring. But this is the world we're in I suppose...

1. My first two SAK purchases ever were the Manager and the Huntsman (no coincidence there, I wanted to cover urban and hiking needs as well). If you manage to get your hands on a Manager you can pretty much pair it with any 91 mm SAK with little redundancy. If you don't mind the extra weight of alox knives and you don't need a corkscrew or the hook pair it with a Pioneer X or a Farmer X (or if the small scissors are enough get a Farmer - you'll have 2 bottle openers but that's all the redundancy you'll have). If you can't get a Manager get a Rambler, it also matches well with the alox knives. I've also seen someone on RU-vid combining a Leatherman Style PS (flight-friendly, allegedly) with a Victorinox Harvester. 2. No Waiter is worth all that upgrade (sorry, it's just my opinion). Too much hassle to make it less minimal. 3. The Compact is full of compromises, that's the main problem with it. The thin combotool that can barely handle Phillips screws, the tiny nailfile, the pen that's awkward to use are all compromises. A backside Phillips screwdriver instead of the corkscrew (and a new eyeglass screwdriver as a scaletool) would make it better. Hell, they should open up the fourth slot on the scale (if you watch Felix Immler you know where that is) and give us maybe a tiny ruler as another new scaletool.
@accoutrements4469
@accoutrements4469 9 дней назад
Thanks for the useful comments! I think ALL SAKs are a compromise to a certain extent - unless you get a custom made one there's always something I'd change on them tbh. I only like the Compact as an EDC tool if you don't think you'll be doing much & just to have it with you as a knife for light duty - as you say that combo tool is a bit thin & flimsy for anything but the lightest duty tasks. Have to say i absolutely LOVE the Manager - my favourite small SAK by a mile - I have several & can't count the times they've come in so useful for little jobs! Bring it back, Victorinox!! And you're probably quite right about the Waiter upgrades!! I find myself going down the rabbit hole with this stuff & sometimes get a bit carried away! lol

Seen some very good reviews of the Nextool stuff - i might pick up one of their 'Sailor' tools to try. The Compact does absolutely seem pricey when you can pick up some of their other knivs for so much less - i especially think the Climber at twenny quid is such a bargain! I've just bought a Jetsetter: really like it & it's a steal at £12 - pocket money price for a genuinely useful & 'non-threatening' tool!

There are some great deals on the Chinese auction sites. SOG PowerPoint around £20 shipped as well as Nextool etc at around 50% of list price. Sailor and Sailor Scissors under £10 delivered at present, and are both great value. Roxon have improved their steels (D2 on blades) and the KS2E with pouch and screwdriver bits is a favourite of mine! Hopefully this encourages Victorinox to develop something to compete.

I'm going to get a Sailor from AliExpress to try i think - it's pocket money prices isn't it! Good to hear Roxon have improved their steel too. £20 for the PowerPint is a bargain - might get one of those too! And we can only hope this might encourage Victorinox to introduce some new products - the speed at which they move/update is absolutely glacially slow, & there's such a lack of innovation from them, it's so frustrating!

Funny you should upload this now as last week I flew Luton to Warsaw, no checked in baggage, so in advance I bought a Jetsetter. Cos that's the kind of guy I am, like you I can't bear to be without any tool/blade. On the Wizzair website it actually says you can carry a blade or scissors up to 6cm, and the same at the airport ahead of security. My Jetsetter got through no problem at all, in my toiletries bag on the way out, in my jacket pocket (which went through the scanner) on the way back. Next time I fly I'm going to add a separate knife with a blade under 6cm, so not a SAK, but something like my Ruike S11 (same as Bokerplus Tech Tool Mini) which has a 5cm blade. I'll let you know if I have any trouble. I also bought it to find out whether the Phillips driver can handle bigger screws specifically PH2 and PZ2 - it can unless they're super tight like if you're dismantling an engine or something. Now I know, I'm going to carry it with a UK legal folder like the Spyderco Urban or Bokerplus Atlas, a pair of Knipex Cobra XS, and on my keyring a cheapo key-shaped flathead ended prybar thingy, which is sturdy enough. That covers all my basic urban EDC needs: blade, scissors, beer bottle opener, Phillips & slotted driver, and pry bar.

That's great to hear! Been hearing from a couple of Canadians & Americans who have said they have had no problems but i think they're stricter here in the UK so its good to hear you got it through no problem! I've found the Phillips driver on the Jetsetter/Manager is really capable as long as you're not expecting to do heavy stuff with it, like u said. I've got a pair of those Knipex XS - absolutely brilliant! And I don't have a Spydie Urban but do have the UKPK & absolutely love that! - Sounds like a sound EDC setup you have there :o)

I play at the casino quite a bit and I keep one on my truck keys. It’s been a life saver. Casinos don’t allow any type of knife blade but they aren’t bothered by the Jetsetter. 👍

Great to hear! I love having a small blade on me but in situations where this is frowned upon i think the Jetestter is a great little tool, really like it! Thank you for sharing!

There are a couple of sites selling the Waiter for £13.95 still - Heinnie Haynes and another one, but it's another £4 for delivery. The Classic SD alox is £24 on the same sites so assuming you order the 2 together you're looking at £24 + £14 + 4 which comes to £42.

I carry an SD classic & a Waiter (complete with pin & mini screwdriver) every day. They cover most of my needs.

My favourite combo is a Victorinox Compact in a pocket and a Leatherman Charge in a fanny pack. Cheers.
