He’s both trolling and being sincere. Sal definitely had these obsessions and proclivities. However whereas most people try to suppress them, Sal knows it’s good for the show if he indulges them and maybe even exaggerated them a little.
In the heyday of the Sirius Era, Sal and Richard were pure gold. Idc what anyone says. If Howard would have allowed them to freelance, they could've totally wrote like a cartoon or something
Frankly I'm amazed Sal was able to reign himself in as much as he did and last on the show. He was at stalker levels here and he easily could have gone off the rails. Instead Howard crushed him and he just accepted the closest he'll ever get to Howard is being a writer

Sal and Richard finally gave up on stand up comedy after realizing: 1) they were never good 2) their material no longer works for this time 3)New York comics and clubs basically turned their backs on them after Artie left the show.
Sal is someone who thinks he is clever. The problem is he never does things that benefit other people beside himself. That's why everyone catches on to his bullshit so fast. Nobody has Sal's back.
