Hello Andrew I’m currently employed with a large large corporation that is a multi billion dollar corporation. Atlas Copco Compressor. I’ve been with the five years. I’m their outside sales manager area rep and the position entails project management as well as sales and meeting monthly, quarterly and year end sales goals. We wear lots of hats. I have been interviewing else where and found a very nice privately owned fence contractor who’s looking for a project manager position because they have been swamped and needing another PM to relieve the work load. This company has been around for 100 years. They gave me an offer a day later after my interview. The offer was base of 75, 2% commission for each project when complete but the project needs to have a 20% GP margin in order to receive 2% if it does not then i get nothing. Also, they guaranteed 1,500 a month guaranteed commission for first six months to get acclimated. Mind you I have 12 years of managing projects and sales as well HYBRID. It’s a so cali location LA region. I called the GM after receiving the offer to thank him for the first offer and trusting in me. He didn’t wana talk number over the the phone and told me to email him with my counter offer. So I did that on Thursday and asked for 83-89k base with 8% commission on the 20% or more GP margin, as well as 1% commission on the entire project value for when the project does not meet the 20% GP margin and falls below as well as keeping the 1,500 commission for first six months of employment. The GM gave an example of 500,00k for a project and 20% GP would be 100,000 worth of revenue which I would get 2% of, so 2k I would make. From that example I’m guessing the projects would be worth between 200-500k I would be managing. He said they currently have about 3-5 project ready for me when I start as they have been swamped. So …. After emailing him my counter on Thursday morning, he emailed me on Friday night saying that he received my counter and will be reviewing it over the weekend to work on it and told me he will be reaching out to me early this week with a reply, he then thanked me and told me to have a great weekend with an exclamation. Just wondering what your thoughts are from this story of what’s currently going on and I’ve explained. Do businesses usually accept the counter offer ? Their very first offer was 75k base and 2% comm as long as project is 20% or more Profitakble. I countered with a base range if 83-89k and 8% Comms for the projects with a 20% GP or more. Soooo I’m wondering what to expect when he replies back to me. What do u think they will offer me on my reply back? Do you think the first offer was their absolute lowest? Do u think my counter offer will be accepted at 83k of 89k or somewhere In the middle? Any thoughts on the commission plan I requested? I’ve heard this position on avg is 80-90k base and 5% Comms for the 20% GP of each project. I’m just wondering what to expect and also, do I accept the offer they have put together for from the expectations I requested over the email on my counter offer? What should I do when I receive their counter offer from my initial counter offer? Do I keep negotiating and playing hard ball poker with them? Just wondering because my existing employer I am with have changed a lot if things, raised goals, the product availablitiy has very long lead times still due to the supply chain issues they keep saying due to covid, meanwhile our competitors lead times have improved and I’ve had customers already cancelling my existing order I’ve already placed. I’m just burnt out and want out. The money has provided my family a nice living, but I can’t perform and be confident anymore due to this leadtime issue. Losing orders after I’ve completed the sale has truly truly gotten to me and burning me out. Just wondering if you had any ideas or thoughts on my situation . Lol hope I’m not bothering but thank you for to ur videos

Simply ask them to put it all together in writing. You can conceptually agree to something verbally, but you want to make sure you see everything in writing, and understand all the terms and conditions before you officially agree to everything.

??????? I’m 63 and on the verge of getting a job offer! My biggest concern is that if I do accept, there may be a gap in my health and dental insurance… and I’m in the middle of some dental work too. How could I negotiate getting covered for COBRA until I finish the new hire waiting period?? This is my biggest concern!!!!!
@andylacivita
@andylacivita 20 дней назад
Congrats and great question!! It OKAY to let them know you have this concern. There are infinitely many ways to handle this on their end. Meaning, as a counter offer, you could request some kind of support whether that’s a sign on bonus to cover your cobra premiums or whether they simply give you a stipend each month to cover your cobra premiums. Without knowing the exact expense or how long you’ll need to go, it’s difficult for me to tell you what might be the better option. It’s OK to ask them if they can help you with this. Good luck!

Thank you for your invaluable suggestions. If someone entered a lesser amount in the expected salary box while filling in the job application. Later, they got an interview and they researched the company and found that their expected was 20-30K lesser than what the company pays to similarly qualified candidates. Do you recommend they negotiate a new range without hurting their chances of getting the job? Thank you again for the great work!

I considered myself an experienced guy, and believe to bring value to any organization as an employee, but what I heard recently is about the value market for employees in certain states (CA & NY will offer a better salary for the same position than PA), therefore, how do I approach that situation and obtain a better salary offer? @andylacivita
@andylacivita Год назад
It's typically best not to renegotiate after you gave them your word you would accept it as is. HOWEVER, if they've introduced new information, such as the cost of benefits or other items in the package that could alter your take-home pay, then you can take that opportunity, based on the new information, to request more money. Good luck!

@@andylacivita will this apply when January first comes in California when companies have to disclose their pay brackets?
@gilo8721
@gilo8721 Год назад
No I wouldn’t recommend it, take it as an opportunity to learn all that you can and work hard doing. Revise your resume, apply and interview with other companies. Use those interviews to ask for a super high offer and find out your worth with their offers.when your already employed it’s easier to interview and ask for more money because your confident already employed and your not desperate which will make us all sell ourself short. Life, work, negotiations are all one big NO LIMIT POKER GAME. Never settle on a first offer, if you don’t counter their offer, the hiring manager and your direct manager will always look down on you for taking the first offer because it shows you aren’t confident with yourself or the skills you have acquired over all your years of work and grind. Just always believe in yourself and believe in your worth.

I'm unemployed, I was laid off in last November because my Company was acquired. I received a verbal offer yesterday after a 3 month search and the salary is 5K less than I was making with my previous Employer. A recruiter whom introduced me with this company knew since the beginning what I was asking for salary requirements and she told me that it wouldn't be a problem to rise it in her opinion. So now the hiring manager of this company told me that this is the authorized salary for the position and they can not offer me more money. I accepted it verbally but I regretted it. Do you think I could have a chance to ask for more salary once I get the writing offer? Two other companies are looking for me and apparently they are willing to pay me what I want or need. I'm confuse what to do. I do not want to lose this job opportunity that looks serious.

The position is described as base + incentuve(commission, bonus, etc) and they said people have made into the six figures. Hi Andrew, I had the final interview with the hiring manager last week, Friday. It was supposed to be an hour-long interview but we extended another hour. I emailed her my thanks and immediately, she replied that she is "strongly considering" my application and that although the HR recruiter was off-duty that day, HR will get in touch soon. It has been a week, and I heared nothing from the HR personnel nor from the hiring manager. I am so worried right now about the outcome because I remembered that I have put quite a high salary expectation on the ATS (required field). The salary was high for the range that I know of, but median for the Glassdoor salary range. To add, I clicked the "negotiable" check box. Do you think I should I contact them that I am changing my salary expectation? Or are they still preparing for something?
