I filmed the Salem Express a month later from its sank. I kept the film, shot in Hi-8, for 25 years and now decided to show it to the world. Warning: This video contains some scenes that some viewers may find disturbing.
This video is a month after it sunk. The bodies were still not all recovered yet. He had to record this to show officials that they needed to come back and retrieve bodies. This is so sad.
I remember that disaster very well, I still even remember the published photo of the Captain and the stories told by survivors that he refused to leave the ship. I wonder how could a 25 years old video be of that quality, It's really a great effort exerted by you but unfortunately very sad. I hope they are in a better place now
Some people get confused between two naval disasters, unfortunately. The first one is this one Salem Express Dec1991 .The second one is Alsalam 98 which sank on Feb 2006. The first one which is in this video hit a coral reef. The second one was due to on board fire and water accumulation Tilting it ,then capsized with no videos at all since it went to very deep waters . Just FYI.
In fact, I think that this film is the only great video documenting this great human catastrophe and I can not find any way to express my gratitude for the presentation of this historic video of the world which was dreamed up by many generations and people who lost their relatives and relatives in that tragedy.
Thank you for broadcasting this important historical document! To see the ship where she lay amid the still fresh debris field is a sombre moment, but one that should be viewed in place of footage taken decades later when so much detail has been overgrown or otherwise obliterated. People should see the ship that went from a happy party like atmosphere to a terror filled capsizing tomb in a matter of minutes, and see the passengers luggage and possessions looking as if they're awaiting their owners to collect them at any moment! The decomposing hand was one of the hundreds that never got out, likewise the other corpse, formerly living, breathing people with their lives ahead of them! Most videographers would either not record the images of the victims or would edit them out, but this is their story, this is the most significant thing that happened to them, right there in that ship! Their story isn't helped by ignoring their presence, as though every piece of luggage and personal possession visible is somehow unconnected to it's owners, whose bodies lie nearby in the wreck! This is real life, and the consequences of recklessly negligent judgment on the part of the bridge crew is the real deaths of the majority of the passengers and crew on the ship! Thank you for keeping their story true and not editing them out, by diving and making this record you have created a genuine historical archive piece within days of the tragedy.
@@awesomeagnihotrisvlog After many decades, subsea decomposition and sealife depradation, I doubt there would be actual bodies remaining, more likely just skeletal remains. There were hundreds of bodies not recovered due to the risks to the recovery team divers in the wreck. The wreck was originally scheduled to be salvaged from the seabed, but that announcement was quickly ignored.
@@awesomeagnihotrisvlog there is a video of Russian divers who penetrated deep into wreck with a good dive plan and twin cylinders, they did found the skeleton remains of the trapped victims, only the skulls and femur bones left mostly.
Yes really amazing even for me, after those many years I filmed. Especially, last year when dived again in Salem Express remembering and filming after that time.
Just had a dive on that wreck two days ago 21.8.2020 lots have changed, debris are way less, corals have grown all over the ship, but it's still lying on her left side, sad and holding its secrets.
Awesome! very shocking! thanks for sharing these images with the rest of the world! a disaster that should never have happened! It would be very important that you could upload more videos of that time of this shipwreck! great visual work! greetings from Chile
last week I was diving on this wreck. all the luggage around the wreck is gone. Only inside you can find some luggage. People should stop robbing these graveyards.
Yeah its disgusting. More than 3x more people died in the Titanic. And people feel that its appropriate to loot $185 million worth of items and sell it off at auction houses in NY. These sites should be legally treated for what they are, grave sites. And looting them should be prosecuted to the exactly same degree as taking a shovel to a graveyard.
I think it was good that they didn't edit out the body at 7:34 as a sad reminder that over 400+ people did die on this ship Here is another one - in search of souls MV st Thomas Aquinas body recovery operation ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HDjIfn40tdA.html
Thank u for sharing! Fantastic video! For that time, the footage looks fantastic and very clear, shocking! I didnt imagine that in those times you could make such a clear videos😍Wanted to ask, the government said they couldnt recover all the bodies because was too dangerous, but you were very close, if you wanted, you could take at least one body from that ship, why they couldnt!?
Roughly 470 people lost their life that night and reports are mixed but they say about only half the bodies were recovered. The ship has been welded up so that people can not enter but there is ways in. I'm sure Jordi probably saw more than one.
This is a great effort well done. I hope all divers have captured these videos at the time of the accident. But unfortunately all the recent videos show the ship corroded by rust and nothing amazing appears in it. These are videos
@@JordiAtienza There was another ferry sinking -called Salam 98- in 2006.. and the victims died 1000 persons. till now there is no trail for it.. My mother and sister traveled by it in 2003 and told me there were spaces between the wood of the floor and it was covered by thick carpets.
No need to answer if it is uncomfortable, but how did the sight of the dead bodies affect you? Were you prepared to find them? Was it a shock? It would deifnitely shock me for my entire life. I am amazed by your bravery to capture this tragic scene.
Hi Vladimir, Thank you for your comments I appreciate! Is not uncomfortable to answer for me as long as I know the answer. The sight of the dead people affects to me a couple of days since I never saw before one, bit then I assimilate it. I was not prepared to find them but the worse was all passports, watches, toys and think about the number of people that died there. This was a bit of shock. I hope I answered all your questions. Thanks for watching and sharing!
It is ok! I was hoping that there might be more pictures of the bug! I am very interested in how badly the bug was damaged! Unfortunately, I have not found much image material of the Salem Express so far
@@JordiAtienza did you explore the inside? I had read from several different sources that were a lot of bodies still trapped in there. I don't think I could go in there if so. It's a shame that they weren't all recovered.
I tried to explore inside but due to the doors that could be closed was too dangerous. I saw one video recovering bodies, but many of them, unfortunately, remained there at that time.
Well, what else I can say that I was there on that time and had the chance to film it. If you wish to know any specific thing that I can answer, please ask! if I'm able to answer I will.
It was not allow to touch anything so I did not try to get out of the water, even just for you to know, I filmed 2 weeks later of this tragic accident.
Some of the people who survived told her that his wife asked someone if he was satisfied with her and when he told her yes disappeared disappeared did not have a trace and some considered missing I was impressed by the sight of the hand of this body does not leave my imagination We Muslims always call the good conclusion
I have more but is about the same so this video is a summary of it. But I have the intention to create another video with actual images and old images spliting the screen.
Andy Willson No, I was not able on that moment, was too danger and two diver died because got traped and couldn’t get out. So I decided to stay on the safe side.
questions is why the ship is not lifted from ocean using giant crane. you will see that water depth is not large. so that the vessel can be easily lifted.
The only disturbing thing is watching you and your friends play around with stuff from the site that a lot of people died on and some bodies are obviously not nor ever recovered. Look and explore, but don't disturb its environment in and around the wreck. And I know it's not like your the only divers to do it, but this is your video and I would say this to anyone behaving such as that. Other than that video is pretty good.
