Salewa Men's Mountain Trainer Mid GTX Hiking Boots 

Yeah, while Salewa certainly makes true mountaineering boots, the Mountain Trainer Mids are definitely designed for backpacking/trekking.

@Well Rounded I have pretty wide feet and flat as well, these fit perfectly. Never had better fit aldo i am hard core Salomon fan :)

Both of these boots are pretty substantial and are likely overkill for simple day hikes. That being said, the Mountain Trainer will give you a little more cushion and flexibility than the Camino. The Camino is meant to be a long-distance backpacking boot, so it's going to be a bit stiffer and better suited toward heavier pack loads and more grueling miles.

As they are the manufacturer, we would recommend going with Salewa's recommendation, or trying them on to ensure a proper fit.

Hi Lee! Thanks for watching. The Mountain Trainers come in just one width and have an alpine style fit, so they are meant to be snug. The multi-fit footbed can be customized to account for higher volume feet.

Salomon might be a better fit for easier paths. I just bought the Selewa because I needed more support, protection and grip in the higher mountains.

Salewa over Salomon everytime! Salomon may be comfier but Salewa is better made and more durable.

a little late but I had the Salomon Quest 4 and they broke in a year and a half. The sole is still in good condition but the upper separated in the front outer zone where it meets the rand.

Hi Mo! Salewa assigns a "Wide" fit to both styles of shoe, so they should fit very similarly, however there are some minor differences, such as the footbed and drop, which may affect fit. We'd recommend contacting Salewa to determine if the shoes are built on the same or different last (form on which the show is molded). That should provide the best clarity on how closely they will fit. Hope that helps!

These are excellent for winter. Like any boot you'll want to take care of the leather for best performance and durabililty, but the Mountain Trainer Mid GTX's are great in cold, wintry conditions.

Good question! These boots don't have a heel welt, so they won't work with hybrid crampons.

Hi AP thanks for the comment today, there's a very good chance the model you saw in the video was from 2017, it would appear that Salewa had a new model year in 2018 and may have discontinued that adjustable foot bed. It would be hard to tell without knowing exactly which model you have.

Mine say "Made in Romania" on the label under the tongue. They are superb boots.

A little heavy but you get used to it fast. I use this to trek along the PCT with a heavy pack. Love them. It’s a shame they stopped making them and the new Mountain Trainer 2’s have bright neon colors. They look silly.

well-fitting crampons will be the key to hiking with these boots!

These have a higher top than the TX4, with two eyelets above the ankle rather than one. They also have a full rubber rand vs the TX4 rubber toe cap. However the goretex lining and vibram outsole will be similarities. Thanks for watching!

It`s not the outer layer that should be waterproof but the Goretex inner! The outer layer can be a bit repellent while the shoe is new(and you can use some grease) but it`s not a decisive thing!
