+1 on the spare socks. No brainer. Marino wooI = no brainer. Just bought my fourth pair of Mt. Trainers and they're the best shoes I've ever used. I used them last summer/fall with the Petzl Leopard crampon and didn't like the low cut shoe with crampons. I plan on getting the Rapace soon. I'm planning on getting a half size larger because the Mt. Trainer GTX fits a half size smaller than the non GTX. Lost six toenails figuring that out.

Like costa mentioned these are only compatible with the salewa crampons. They have too much flex to be a light mountaineering boot I'd consider these to be heavy duty hiking shoes and with the aluminum crampons they'll hike you anywhere you want even some basic glacier walking but avoid rock as you'll reduce the lifespan of the crampon. If you want light mountaineering boots they make the crow gtx. Which are stiff with little flex and have a proper rest welt I'm using mine with hybrid bindings and they're able to do grade 2-3 mountaineering.

Hi. I own a pair of Men's Salewa Mountain Trainer Mid Gtx in US size 10. They are the 2nd generation (as I understand, both the Mountain Trainer Mid and the Rapace are currently on their 3rd generation). I also understand (if I'm not mistaken) that the foot platform on both Mountain Trainer Mid and Rapace is the same. So, since I'm about to purchase from you a pair of Rapace GTX, my question is, will a size 10 fit me right just as in my Mountain Trainers Mid? Considering they are a different model (but with supposedly same foot platform) AND a newer generation (I suppose another question is: has sizing changed between boot generations?). Thanks for your reply!

CentroInvOrografica, we would like to think that by incorporating all of the same design and platform features that the Rapace would have the same fit as it's family members. At any time after you get your new boots , just a reminder that you have 60 dayss to replace the boots for another size or another model in hopes of the perfect fit. Thanks again,

Hi Tiannos, if you're heading to the mountains, then these shoes are likely a better starting point. It looks like jussa and Costa gave some solid observations about the Rapace GTX and it's worth reading their advice if you're considering mountaineering at all. For hiking up to peaks, these boots would be great! Best of luck with the store, stick with it!

How is the durabillity of theese boots? I read they seem weared after a few active months
@Enwild
@Enwild 5 лет назад
The Rapace GTX Mountaineering Boots feature a Vibram outsole and a leather and synthetic upper, so they will prove pretty rugged. All footwear will wear down after enough use, so it really depends on how often the boots are used, the type of terrain, amount weather exposure, etc. Thanks for the post!

These Selewa boots aren't compatible with most hybrid crampons with locking heel tab. The slot for the heel tab on these boots isn't wide enough. If u buy these u obviously need the selewa crampons to fit it properly.

They're probably not compatible as they're neither a B1, B2 or B3 rated boot. Salewa B2 & B3 boots are compatible with other crampons apart from their own - Salewa Blackbirds with BD Seracs are a good fit by the way...

Great build quality boots! How's the stiffness compared to the Zamberlan vioz boots?
@Enwild
@Enwild 4 года назад
The Vioz appear to be a full-grain leather upper boot, which is about as stiff as they come. With a nubuck leather on this upper, you'll have a little more flexibility with the Rapace, while still maintaining stability underfoot.

How’s the ankle support?
@Enwild
@Enwild 3 года назад
The Repace offers tremendous ankle support through the combined usage of the flex collar and the 3F system. The Flex collar utilizes mixed materials to deliver support by way of strong, supportive materials and encourage the natural movement of the foot with more flexible materials allowing them to work synchronously. Paired up with the heel locking capability of the 3F wire tension system it firmly anchors your heel into place which prohibits unnecessary forward movement in the shoe.

Enwild I ask because I have weak ankles. They roll easily
@Enwild
@Enwild 3 года назад
The Rapace 3f system forces your heel into the boot and then you would be able to customize the tightness of the ankle of the boot. Keeping your heel locked will help greatly with ankle stabilization.

Should I order 1/2 size up ?
@Enwild
@Enwild 4 года назад
Salewa does tend to run a little narrower than some brands, but are pretty true to size in length.

I've been using the Mt. Trainers for probably eight years and bought the Gore-Tex version last summer in the same size. Should have gone up a half size. Since these are GTX, I'd probably go up a half size.
