Some extended fine late autumn weather, good tides and a few free days saw me head over to the mid west coast of South Australia, basing myself at the small coastal town of Elliston.
The plan was to surf fish some of the excellent salmon beaches in the area, starting with the famous Locks Well.
Renowned for consistent catches and sometimes, very large fish, I headed down there early on the first morning only to find that I had been beaten to it and what's more, the older couple were already catching fish!
What followed was some really good fishing and although the monsters were absent, I was able to catch 30 in just a couple of hours, all but two on lures and really enjoyed the session.

Thanks, I always release salmon and in fact probably let go 95% of all the fish I catch. You're right, I saw a lot of salmon kept.

Great session. I was going to ask you if you'd ever bled and prepared them so that they were ok to eat but I figured that you would just point out that you had a fridge/freezer full of Flathead fillets so I didn't bother.🤣🤣 Thanks for the video.

Hahaha. Thanks, exactly. Actually, I have bled and skinned them in the past and they were OK but only fesh and only small ones. If you thought that was a good session, wait for the next video!

Great video as usual Frank, I've just got back into the salt water fishing now I have time and the camper van. I think I'll be heading over that way after watching your video. Those 'grip wire' sinkers are absolutely the best way to go on beaches with lots of tow. The were invented by a couple of guys in the UK (Nigel Forest and Ian Gillespie) I have used them for years actually make my own.

Thanks Peter! I had 3 days over there, caught each day and a session of a few hours was more than enough. I'm glad they weren't 4kg models! Next day was even better!

You certainly hit the honey pot at that spot Frank... a bit more hectic than the last trip to Wynn Vale 😂 you would have had trouble with your right arm lifting that glass of red you had later I think!

😂Well that wouldn't have been hard to top now, would it! No glass of red but the arms got prgressively sorer as the days went on - as you will see.

There is no way of getting to Katarapko Island other than by boat as far as I know, except possibly walking across the stone weir at the northern end when the water is low, but that is miles from Loxton. Email is captainfrank01@outlook.com
