In this video you'll find the very first basic step of Salsa.
Step with your left foot forward and with your right foot backward.
Be sure to make small steps. Lift up your left foot slightly when stepping with your right foot backward and lift up your right foot when you step with your left foot forward. Now keep making small steps, keep both feet close to the floor.

why does something that looks so simple, is so difficult to execute ?! I went to a dancing club last night, my first lesson, total disaster. even with personal help from two instructors, could not bring my feet to do these simple moves. even a wood plank could dance better than me. then again, surely there are other things in life, that I can build my confidence on...

Umm this might seem like a silly question, but, what happened to 4? Why not 1,2,3 - 4,5,6? Why does he count 1,2,3-5,6,7?

@@wheelie6424 and 8 are a 'pauze count'. It's a short moment when you do 'nothing'. The 4 and 8 are great - as opposite to movements on 123 and 567. Later you can can emphasize on 1 and 5 after that short moment. It's all about balance between action and rest. Like the rest of life. 🥰

I'm missing an explanation for the hip-movement. How do dancers make move their hips? Especially the salseras ;). Otherwise, it's a very nicely structured course. I wish I had an instructor like you at the beginning of my salsa journey. I'm a fan of your Martix.

I think it is important to mention that in pair the woman will have to start with her right backwards, not with the left forward luke the man does... also... In different places of the world they do the first step differently..they either do it backwards (the men) or they do it on a different tempo... it is quite confusing..

i have tried several videos on youtube . almost alll english tutorials failed to teach basic steps . either they are focusing on counts or only on styling . i failed miserbaly to undersatnd basic steps . however some other language instructors are quite good in their method but i couldnt understand langauge . this however is quite good for absolute beginners like me . thanks you

The way she is facing away from us and you the opposite- thank you that’s genius. Yes, there is a pause. You step on 1, 2, 3. Pause 4. Step 5, 6, 7. Pause 8. I believe this is called "on 1" salsa and there is another called "on 2" where you step on 2, 3, 4 and 6, 7, 8.

You explain this so well! I was always confused as to what to do with my hands and body. As a total beginner, other beginner videos that I've watched, has me soooooooo confused! The instructors always do the videos at a pro level. Having said that, it makes me feel like my body and feet are total opposites and without any fluency. But with your video, I could clearly understand and see what to do exactly! Thank you so much!!!

We only count the beat that we step on. So since we do not step on 4 and 8, we don't count them. It is a good moment for us to breath in and out ;-)

here it should be noticed that steps 3 and 7 are of double time duration comparing to the other steps so that it actualy can be counted as one two three (and four) five six seven (and eight).

This will teach you the moves but all that means nothing if i don’t know how to count music , so when you say on. 1 or and 5 , 6 , 7 … i don’t even know what those numbers mean in accordance with the music .

Hi, we only count the beats where we step on. Since we do not step on 4 we do not count it. Besides that leaves 1 count to breath in so we can keep talking ;-)
