One reason I think the movie looked so good was it wasn’t shot on digital cameras, but instead was shot on traditional film cameras. I think it makes all the scenes look softer. Great reaction!

That makes sense! Shooting on film definitely suites this movie perfectly.

I think he did love Felix but he also was envious of him and once Felix found out his true colors and didn’t wanted to remain friends with him he decided that he was just an inconvenience that was in his way of his plan.

Definitely he only thrusts the bottle at Felix after he has unequivocally rejected him once and for all, if Felix had forgiven him I dont think he would have killed him. He simply decided after Felix rejected him that he would never be with him and he wax now just an obstacle do he decided there and then to kill Felix and take everything from him and his family.

I loved this movie. I think people who don’t like it are trying to look too deep into it. It’s just a fun, insane movie that was excellently filmed and edited with an incredible soundtrack and a killer score. Barry Keoghan absolutely nailed this performance. One of my favorite movies of the year as well.

She isn't moving to a one-bedroom house. She's moving to a one-room apartment with some sort of kitchen facilities, possibly with a bathroom in the hallway she shares with other tenants. I lived in an efficiency with a shared bathroom for my first apartment, and that was the same thing.

31:50 On the surface things were fine before Oliver visited, but the family had a lot of issues. These helped Oliver make it look like he didn't cause the deaths. Felix partied too hard, Venetia had depression and other unmanaged mental health issues.

This is one of those films where you catch yourself with your mouth hanging open, but you have to keep watching!😂 I do like these uncomfortable, obsessive type movies, and the acting is really great. It gave me The Talented Mr. Ripley vibes! I will definitely never look at a bathtub, or a mound of dirt in the same way.😳

The following films are all coloured with the original crayons. They are not meant to go down easy and feel good in your stomach. They absolutely will invite you to spaces in your mind that perhaps has not been explored, but it is where you do not fear to dread. Regardless if you react to them or not; they are my gift to you. I'm really glad you dug this! I didn't love it, but Barry Keoghan (Oliver) was amazing like you said, and the movie looked amazing. (also, like you said like a music video) I guess it felt a bit empty, but maybe that was the point. All these bored, idle super wealthy people and this one out of place character whose motivation is never really clear. Was he in love? Was he in love with the lifestyle? Envious? Sociopathic? All of the above? "The Talented Mr. Ripley" is another movie that has similar themes that you seemed to like. I really enjoyed your enthusiasm!

I don’t know if we needed all of it, but I liked seeing that his plans went so far back to him actually puncturing the tire. I also think it’s part of Oliver’s need to tell the narrative so he may be over-selling his actual control and power there. For one thing, IMO I think it’s clear he’s lying about “not being IN love with” Felix and that’s something he keeps repeating.
@LadyScaper
@LadyScaper 6 месяцев назад
The thing is, he is just telling himself after the fact that he had a plan to get the house. That way it’s not about being in love with Felix, which is what it was really about. Instead it was a successful “grand plan all along” to get the house. That way he can tell himself losing Felix didn’t matter when it most certainly did. That’s why he keeps mentioning how much HE WAS NOT “in love” with him. He couldn’t have planned for over a decade and half to get Elspeth alone. Even during his time at Saltburn he makes mistakes (like trying to hit on Elspeth). So many variables were out of his control for too long. Elspeth could have died in the intervening years in something simple like a car accident, she could have got cancer or another grifter could have come in. What he is saying does not line up with his actions and images, because they aren’t supposed to. Oliver is a compulsive liar and an unreliable narrator. (For some people people who think he “had a plan all along”, certain scenes they think are only there for “shock value”, because they don’t understand those scenes are showing Oliver’s true desires, which is definitely not the house.) I am also realizing a lot of people have been blessed to not have ever know a compulsive liar. The post fact justification is exactly what they do. He has the house but he is all alone. Is that what he wanted? Do all his actions say he wanted to be rich and alone?

can’t agree with you, mate: neither about the cheap blabber part, nor the “cook, etc” being a better movie. Saltburn’s inspirations are clear: the talented Mr. Ripley, Rebecca, School Ties, Brideshead Revisited, etc. Not really comparable films, there two.

Wow dude. You have Henry's family in the Good Son a Total/Instant Pass in regards to focusing your inner disdain for estate held wealth to obfuscate the actual interpersonal dynamics the characters demonstrate and portray. Being born to an aristocratic family confers zero automatic preset stereotypes as a monolith. In your reference to life at a private boarding academy, you go for Hogwarts... Instead of recognizing the shots from Oxford. The institution from which all other schools that followed emulate. You do usually react to horror films. My horror could be a late millenial assuming that Michael Jordan named himself after the Jordan shoe line. From an entertainment perspective, knowing how easily lambs are led to the slaughter; does it make the Easter meal more tasty from raw sadism? No matter how many lambs get their unlucky coins flipped from an Anton Chugar rigged air compressor, they still follow the shepard.

@@therobw your Reaction to the Good Son was such a memorable and outstanding reaction. I held so much excitement for your coming reactions as you may have a similar aptitude to appreciate the nature of true horror. How many Slasher, jump scare, formulaic sanitized for middle class American non-thinking audiences does it take before this specific consumer/creator becomes incapable of digesting anything else? I believe you are equally as erudite as I in your cinematic musings. I understand and give u credit in that the general public does NOT wish to come anywhere close to true horror. The teen slasher genre are no different than non-toxic crayons. A distracted mom doesn't have the same reaction to kids eating crayons because they aren't toxic like ALL original home cleaning products where when first introduced... I respect above everything else your poised acceptance of my initial comment. I agree it was harsh. Allow me to offer a prize to you now. See next comment :)
