When I was a child this record ,a 78 was,along with many other great music not forgetting ideals by Tosti . And of course the recording of 'au fond' with Robert Merril .Music made in heaven!
This great voice -- and I don't speak in terms of better or worse, dislike comparisons -- is so unique and has not ever been surpassed in its special beauty. I'm so fortunate to have been around long enough to have heard Björling live in L.A. and Stockholm, but the technology gap has somewhat separated him from the very fine singers of today. Thank heaven he made so many audio recordings, now available on CDs. I only wish more movies like this one had been made, to show the great natural ease with which he produced that celestial sound of his. Movie cameras were advanced for the time, why didn't they use them more? Of course, the music world thought he would be around and active for at least another two decades. I was in Stockholm at the time of his death, recall the utter dark sense of tragedy that swept the Swedish nation then.
