He wasn’t allowed to move around much during the competition because he was basically dying at the time. His sister wrote the song and she was given permission to sing it instead of him for the first round. He was blessed to receive a heart transplant some months later. He is unique indeed. I like his sweetness and his quirkiness. And such a lovely song indeed. I’m so very glad to see a reactor listening to him. Thank you! 🤗 PS. He is doing better now and is performing. He really is an arresting performer who does very cool stuff more towards jazz. Love his work!
He brought real music back to Eurovision. He is a huge advocate, as me, of bringing back live music to Eurovision, like it used to be. So many of the songs nowadays are electronic and all with pre-recorded tracks. Soon AI will take over Eurovision. But this song was of the genre of old style Portuguese Brazilian Jazz love song, and it broke so many hearts, even people who did not understand the lyrics. But the song and his voice and performance were enough.
Eu actually had a heart surgery after. The reason his clothes are that large is because he had medical equipment tapped to his chest. His doctor was there with him.
He was on a talk show in Norway and he mentioned about his heart condition and explained that he had 25 kilo liquid in his body. Great singer with a wonderful sister who wrote this song for Eurovision song contest in Ukraine and won.

You should see him live (I so him in Poland). He is very talented, sensitive and funny. Show was amazing - without fireworks at the stage but he doesn't need it.He has great sence of humor and distance to himself, likes play with music and emotions. Polish language is difficult but he sang one song for us in polish and it was fantastic. His first album "Excuse me" is my favorite. Next "París, Lisboa" is great too, music is a bit more difficult, more ambitious.
By this time he was in emergency for a heart transplant. He won!! then he got the transplant. He represented Portugal. First time Portugal winner of Eurovision 2017.

Marc, this great artist is Portuguese and he beat all of the best singers from all of Europe in a famous song competition. Salvador is special and unique. He was raised in the US and later moved back to Portugal to pursue a music career. Look him up and be prepared to be amazed!
Marc..I love this guy.... he is a beautiful soul. His health gas not been great and he had a heart transplant maybe 2 yes ago I think. I parked here when I saw the name Salvador Sobral, 2017 winner of the biggest song competition in Europe called Eurovision when I became one of his biggest fan. Salvador after his heart transplant back in I think Aug or Sept 2017 is now back on his beloved stage miraculously healthy and kicking and a better singer and composer than ever before!!! I suggest to go back 2016 and watch and react if you could to his interpretation of a beautiful song NEM EU with the pianist his friend and band mate Julio Resende, I guarantee you will feel certain emotions you might not have experienced before watching someone singing. It's a specific video whereby just 2 of them recording the song and Sal wearing a headband. Salvador Sobral is a jazz singer/musician. Thanks for giving your time to react to Sal.👍
He's got one of the best voices out there, I saw him live a couple of months ago, it's actually hard for him to be out of tune, lol! He also speaks him mind in a very peculiar witty way and makes the crowd laugh. :)
Salvador got discovered on a TV music contest. Music has always been a part of his life and in his family. This song was written by his sister, for him, because she knew he was the perfect voice for it. She can also sing very well thought. At the end of the show when he went up on stage to sing it again, he asked her to sing with him.
Salvador Sobral is a genius and a lover of music. In 2017 when he won Eurovision he sang with a device that helped his heart beat. After a few months he received heart transplnate and in the middle of 2018 began to make spectacles again. In 2019 has an agenda of shows in Portugal and Europe. Marc, from your expression I understand how this song cut directly to your soul. I can not tell you how how much more you would get from it if you understood Portuguese. I would gladly translate it but the true dimension of the poem only fully resonates in our laguage. It is simply one of the most beautiful love statements ever written.
