Interesting design, decently built, better than most of the modern junk I've kept going by combining multiple parts units. Neat to see a different design!

Always loved parting out something that not being used anymore its so satisfying to take things apart electronics that is.

Can't beat a good ww2 story from the old timers, I find it so fascinating listening to them.

Most of the fires from space heaters come from people leaving them on unattended with too much crap too close all around it. If you read the manuals they want you to have like at least 4 feet of space all around them.

This, & not keeping them cleaned & functioning properly.

I bet you could convert that to a pretty nice kiln if you tried. Might come in handy for what you make in that forge?

of course, but given the smell and the age, just dont want to take any chances. too many houses burn down each year from old space heaters.

Totally hope you follow through with using the fan for a forge/furnace build. Would look so awesome / post-apocalyptic-esque. Keep up the content :)
@RinoaL

actually i might connect it to the ducting in the basement to help circulate basement air in the house, but eventually i might add it to the forge thing. ^^

I have a heater like this in my bedroom it has like 4-5 elements i think 1 is burnt out because its not as hot as it used to be. I think that small was from the elements or the copper being heated. you should use those elements to make a forge. you could use that long 240v extension cord and run all the elements in series. or you could use those elements to preheat a stone forge so it wouldn't crack then use your ark welder as a ark furnace. Idk just brainstorming.

Interesting tear down. Surprising that the filaments were springs instead of quartz. There's lots of sheet metal left over too that could be made into other things.
@Burfurd64
@Burfurd64 6 лет назад
The tubes containing the filaments were quartz.
@mattburrows2615
@mattburrows2615 6 лет назад
They aren't really springs. They are coiled nichrome wire.

From the date code on the back, it didn't look like it was that old. (10 08) Hope you find good use for the parts.
@RinoaL

decade old is still a good amount for a space heater.

Rinoa Super-Genius for a cheap unit maybe. I still have a similar quality unit that with the right maintenance has lasted over 30 years and is still safer that most of todays cheap Chinese rubbish. I guess I just hate seeing precious resources wasted too. It's is why I said I hope you find good use for the parts. All the best :)

What do you think the weird smell was coming from?
@roboterson
@roboterson 6 лет назад
Kevin Stempien old heaters start to build up dust and you can smell it burn when you turn them on, that's my guess.
@RinoaL
@RinoaL 6 лет назад
mix of dust, and a bit of the filament oxidizing. i dont think those filament tubes should b all black like they are.

Rinoa, because most heaters made today are crap! that thing is built like a tank. I would be proud to own that.

That was one of the best space heater around. You sure have kept it. Unless something was seriously wrong with it, don’t get why you would destroy a expensive well built space heater?
@RinoaL
@RinoaL 6 лет назад
because it wad emitting a burning plastic smell, and didnt heat as much anymore
@thetechgenie7374
@thetechgenie7374 6 лет назад
Rinoa Super-Genius That a shame I guess not as good as their bigger one. Burning plastic smell never a good sign. I had to scrap a heater recently due to melted cord and burning ceramic elements that have off a nasty strange oder. Thank god birds wasn’t in that room when it happened.

You forgot to cut the plastic to confirm it's not glass fibre reinforced. Tsk tsk tsk. Its still a cool video though.

That was a reparable heater. Too bad, those Eden Pure's were well made and cost over $300 new. Most likely the blower motor is going bad. It slows down and the glass tube elements get a little hot. The hot metal and plastic will then smell because of the lower airflow ..
@dictare
@dictare 6 лет назад
I found a heater in the garbage just last week that has the same blower. Problem was the blower stopped working because the lube dried up. Re-lubed with bacon grease and good as new!
@Dzonemp
@Dzonemp 6 лет назад
3 in 1 oil or turbine oil works much better than bacon grease .
