I see this as a call to action for ALL of humanity. Life on earth is the story (for me) starting with wind (primordial gases) then the water. Out of the water climbs upon the land. So profound. "One drive to stay alive" the drive that spurs action in every organism.
"Falling isn't flying, floating isn't infinite"... basically if you're not moving forward, striving for more, or attempting to better yourself, then you're going to fail. You can't just be complacent and accept your fate, you have to fight to stay alive.
So on board, love Tool. Best band I've heard in a very long time maybe ever. They do stuff completely different to anyone else it's incredible, all 4 elements absolutely impeccable. Drums, guitar, bass, vocals/lyrics
This song live is so beautiful, with the visuals that go along with it!! So cinematic, it makes me want to piece together a music video for their song, pulling clips from films.
Can’t wait to see them do Pushit, Bottom, disposition/reflection/traid. Parabol/parabola. Hell, Just do the whole discography lol I think always doing it with the lyrics is hopefully
We would go, but tickets, flight and hotel ain't cheap...especially last minute. Cross your fingers they hit Dublin, Ireland next tour because we will be going!
It's a call to action but I'm not sure exactly what for. He talks of an impending disaster as if it already happened; like a narrator talking to the audience standing on the outside looking in. Lethargy, apathy, slumber. Paints a pretty clear picture that the players are going along unaware of how serious the danger they're in, or are aware but unwillingy to take steps to fix it. Sounds like Maynard believes the disaster is inevitable or unavoidable, but is calling for those who are willing and able to do something; so that not all is lost. The lines "falling isn't flying, floating isn't infinite" are my favorite on the album, and sum up the song perfectly to me, and I love Adam's playing here.
Lateralus is a masterpiece, no doubt. But they have 30+ other masterpieces too. I don't think this is their best song but to be fair, I can't pick a favorite; it's impossible. Descending and Invincible are two of the best songs ever written..i do know that.
