@@dialgafan1063 I’m honestly thinking more of a tragic character. Helping her in secret, even if she doesn’t know.

It took me a while to get used to her as a DM, and while her DM style isn't quite up my alley, I FAR prefer has as a player. (No hate on her as DM, I just find that I have EXTREMELY picky tastes in DMs if I'm gonna be watching them for hours at a time, and fully realize this is a flaw in myself, not any fault of the DMs)

I'm pretty sure what he knows is that she's the reason Evandrin died and they're keeping it from the rest of the group. The deception check Quay made right after this against Zerxus's insight I believe was to see if Zerxus would start to piece it together. Later on Cerrit finds an empty box labeled "Evandrin" in Quay's office and asks Quay about it, to which Quay answers with a lie and blames it on a former employee.
@JanSiwanowicz
@JanSiwanowicz 2 года назад
One theory is that to hide his wife's involvement in Evandrin's demise, Quay shapeshifted into Evandrin for a while and faked their death in a way that did not implicate Laerryn. Naturally if/when this comes out, Zerxus will be ripe for Asmodeus' push to take actions that will trigger the Calamity.

@aromaladyellie

I would argue they did that here- their marriage fell apart, it seems, not because of anything Quay did, but because Laerryn prioritised her work and her ambitions over their marriage and over Quay. Brennan doesn't make him roll deception to cover up the bit about the assistant in part 1, and the interaction we do see between Quay and Aria (at least from what I saw in part 1, I haven't finished Part 2 thanks to work) was completely professional? I don't think he lied that she's literally just his assistant who does happen to be young and pretty. I think he's flirtatious, sure, but it could be seen as part of his job and he's not just Caesar Flickerman, but he goes out and gets the scoop himself (as indicated by Bolo's introduction where he tells her how to get information). I think Laerryn made assumptions about her ex-husband that don't even seem to be true based on what I've seen. I think Quay is someone who needs attention, but Laerryn never gave it to him, at least after a point. The thing is, we don't really... see him womanise? He doesn't flirt with Aria and is dismissive of Bolo, seeming to have brought her just to get his ex-wife's attention. That makes me think he might have done "womanising" like things to get his wife to stake her claim on him, not out of interest. Because he needed to know Laerryn did love him, since she'd always put her work first. That's not a good thing or healthy thing, but it's like a kid acting out in class because they're neglected at home. Of the women he does talk to extensively (Patia, Aria, Bolo, and Laerryn) he's by far the nicest to Laerynn, although there are a few points where he shows obvious resentment, particularly when they meet at Laerryn's house (she says the line about having him having her "unadulterated" attention and he remarks that it's the first time he's had it), and when she is shown to have been keeping a secret from him (likely the secret that destroyed their marriage). Which, I do want to say there is the fact that Laerryn does resonate strongly with those with autism and ADHD because her priority being her job and ambition comes off as hyperfixation, so I don't want to say too much negative about her on that front. But I do think that she's why things failed, not him. Just from what I've seen and understood between their exchanges.

Laerryn IS a terrible person. She literally created a way to teleport and entire city into another plane, after having used a live person for her first experiment (who got whacked as far as she knows) and has not told anyone that she intends to move along with her project regardless of how monumentally she fucked up said experiment.
