Just discovered this beautiful song the other day and thought "hmm, I wonder if I could learn to play that" - so I'm thrilled to discover that you've also posted this tutorial video! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this and share your knowledge and skill!
Recently bought Sam's back catalogue and this beautiful song has been running around in my head ever since. Imagine my delight to find that Sam has posted how to play it and will be doing further teaching videos. Really enjoyed the teaching, Sam and especially appreciate your naming the chords in the videos- this will be very helpful when attempting to play any other songs in DADGAD. Have been to a couple of your gigs and love your playing, singing and composition. As a hardened Nic Jones devotee, I'd love you to do a teaching of Ruins by the shore. Thanks again and please keep em coming....
thank you Michael, glad you're enjoying the videos and the songs. I'm planning to stick to teaching my own songs for the foreseeable but perhaps I'll do some more Nic Jones in future, I'm a huge fan too. 🙂
Lovely, thanks for this. I tend to default to open D major or open C major for the John Fahey-type I usually play, but I want to get into DADGAD some more.
i personally don't think you need to tell us each individual note Sam i'm sure just capo and fret number should be ample, it would make it a lot easier for you to say, and for us to work out for ourselves...as we should.... but still a fab tutor i'm loving the laid back way you present :)
thanks, I think as guitar players we tend to shy away from learning what we're actually doing in terms of chords in open tunings, which can be a problem when you go to explain what you're doing to an accompanist for example. Feel free to just take the info you find helpful and disregard the rest! 🙂
Sam, a great lesson. At times your voice reminds me of Roy Harper. However I'm a bit disturbed by this new polished, just showered look taking the place of your traditional scraggy hair, holy jumper persona we all know and love.
