The thing about his and Keith Urban's versions is that when Keith sings it, its more a looking back on memories kind of feeling. When he sings it, its more for the young love.
He wrote it..so he sings it the way it's supposed to be sung.. What an amazing young writer. You will now start to see all his songs get cut by major artists and he will have his own career. He can write like he's been doing it for 40 years.. Amazing!!! Glad Nashville recognized his talent!
I actually did fall in love in the back of a cop car - (underage drinking, lol... completely harmless.). I miss my first love so much & I think of him often. It's like this song was written for us. I'll never forget those 3 years. ♡
I still love my 1st love, together from 16 to 24..... unfortunately he became abusive and impregnated someone out of state, I was 24, he was 25, ..... he chose her.... til this day, never married, no children I'm 44
Sam captures the song way better. You can feel what he's singing verses just listening to it when Keith sings it. If you don't feel something while listening to music, what's the point of it.
I LOVE YOUR VERSION OF THIS YOU CAN HEAR THE PASSION IN YOUR VOICE. YOUR REAL CONNECTION TO THE LYRICS SALES IT. I LOVE YOUR VOICE. I SAW YOU FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST NIGHT IN CHATTANOOGA. YOU WERE AMAZING LIVE! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU AGAIN WHEN YOU COME BACK TO MARIETTA.
just discovered your music, man and I could listen to it all night- makes me feel like I'm sitting around a bonfire with a group of good buddies. Keep it up, I'm already a big fan!
Don't be ignorant people. Sam Hunt wrote the song. Keith's publishing bought the song. It happens every day. It wasn't "stolen". And it's good for both. Keith got a great song and was able to put his music with it and Sam made and is still making great money on the song and got recognition in Nashville as a writer. Welcome to Nashville. Both versions are their own and both versions are great, simply because it's a good song.
This FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait until his career takes off!!! So much passion! He is much more connected to the song --- made this song fantastic. Sorry Keith... truth is truth.
Now don't get me wrong, Keith's version is awesome, but Sam's version is AMAZING!!! I love the way his voice sounds when he says, "..I was thinking you were crazy as hell" ooof. It just hits you right in the feels.
Seen this guy in Grand Rapids, MI with Chase Rice..I think it's CRAP Keith Urban got the credit and Grammy for this song. This song is amazing, great job Sam thanks for writing it :)
Every time this song comes on the radio (keith's version) I turn it off. I hate it. But hearing you, well I just couldn't believe how much you made me love this song. Well you are very talented and I wish you nothing but the best! !!
I like both versions of this song and when I first heard Keith Urban's single on the radio I thought this song was weird. After a while of listening to it and hearing the chorus, this one vocal where it says "running for it", just that on part was my favorite. Just one little vocal made me like this song. lol! I love how both artist sing it. Its a very cute song. Now haters have a seat, you're standing in this man's spotlight :D
mm.. just downloaded early release of Urbans new cd.. Sam.. this song is the best one on it dude.. by far... never heard u before... i guess you will be writing songs for many others now... awesome... Neil..UK Liverpool !
I don't see how this version is better and I don't see how Keith Urban's version is overplayed: it's a SINGLE, so it's gonna be played. this version IS NOT A SINGLE and it can't even be played at radio since most of them are monitorized by Clear Channel and they don't promote album cuts
Keith Urban has nothing on Sam Hunt. Just amazing you can hear the meaning of this song to him. Saw him in concert opening for Chase Rice in GR Michigan. Can't wait to see another show of his.
Hell yes. I actually heard Keith's version a couple years before Sam's and I absolutely abhorr that song. But when Sam sings it I can have it on repeat and never get enough
Between The Pines version > Keith Urban version > Montevallo version. This one's original, while the Montevallo version sounds like a watered down cover of Keith's version.
I prefer Keiths version. Its more rock. This version in a bit too mellow and rnb for my taste but great song either way. Can't wait to hear more of same hunts stuff
No, Keith is a bigger name and will get more radio play of the song because he is Keith Urban. When everything you've released in the past decade goes top five, it's pretty automatic that the streak will continue. Sam doesn't have that kind of track record, at least not yet (he will someday with his talent). Don't worry though, it is the writer not the singer who gets the royalties when a song is played on radio. When you are a writer, it is a dream come true when a world-famous artist asks if he/she can cut your song, not something to mope about. I know one artist who told me the biggest day of her life was the day Alan Jackson called to tell her he was recording a song she wrote. The second best day of her life was when Lee Ann Womack recorded one of her songs. (The third best day of her life was probably the day she got married.)
I love his original version so much better! I heard him perform this live in Athens, Ga this past March and it was amazing. I wish he would have cut it himself instead of Keith Urban.
I don't understand why people are fighting about who sang this better and making a huge deal out of it. Everyone has their own opinion so build a bridge and get over it
***** Exactly, Keith didn't "steal" it. It wouldn't take much for Sam to let Keith cut it though. When songs are played on radio, it's not the singer who gets the royalty check, it's the writer. Keith Urban took it to #1, I'm sure Sam isn't sad about that. Could Sam have taken it to #1 without the big bucks push of a major record label like UMG Nashville behind him? I doubt it. Money talks; it's record company executives who determine the entire top 20 every week, not fans. The cost to get a song to radio is uber-prohibitive for an artist to do it on his own.
