IIRC they were mostly just dial-in boards, but each bulletin board was separate from the rest. I think later they developed a way for boards to synchronize content between each other on a schedule.
@@rustyshaklford9557 you'd have local hubs that would pay for long distance lines to download from around the country. then ppl would interact with those hubs so they didnt have to pay long distance themselves. games, warez, zines. tons of cool shit, mostly nerd based knowledge but none of that trashy garbage social media throws in your face
