Don't forget the food court! McDonalds, Panda Express and Roberto's Taco Shop - an iconic staple in Vegas and California. Get the Carnitas Burrito with sour cream and a side of horchata! It's the best - don't miss a good chance to eat Robertos, especially if you arent from nevada!!
This was my first job when I moved to Vegas in 2000, I worked as a food server at Fresh Harvest Cafe. It used to be called Smokey Joe's about a year prior. Fresh Harvest had really good food and a GIANT salad bar, to which I had many people ask me if it was a BUFFET! Diamond Lil's was adjacent to it and it had already closed so I did not get to try the food there! Both restaurants are now what is now TGIFriday's . I got laid off after 9/11 but it'll forever hold history as my first job in Vegas! the next 9 years after that I would go here a few days a week to gamble as it was my favorite gambling spot!!! I always visit here at least once when I visit Vegas (I moved out of Nevada in 2010)
For years their restaurant Willy and Jose's was one of the best Mexican restaurants in Las Vegas. It closed and reopened but was never the same. We hung out in the bowling alley every Friday night when I was growing up here. Funny story Dale lol.
Thank you so much that means a lot coming from you we really appreciate the feed back. We just love your channel, the editing and filming are terrific. I hope we can meet up one day soon. ❤️😊
@@DaleMcKenzie Thank you and that would be my pleasure. I was watching this video with a friend and we were talking about how great your production is. From the shots to the voice over its just great.
I love Sam’s Town. The bowling alley is affordable and great snack bar and pro shop deals. Christmas in the atrium is a MUST! In my opinion, Sam’s Town, GVR an Red Rock are all comparable with amenities and great for people who want to be in Vegas but off the strip.
In previous years when I did a lot of travel in my work in between assignments I'd stay up to several weeks in the weekly rentals right next to Sam's Town. It was convenient to just walk over to eat, drink and play. I played stud poker sometimes. I also liked getting breakfast and positioning myself right in the middle of the sport book so I could watch NFL games and play the horses. I also played with a trivia team that used to meet and compete in tournament play with what used to be the 'NTN' network. Game boxes that were displayed on the TV sets in the bar. The bar even had a fenced in basketball court. I remember doing a little one on one with a trivia team member who later became a Las Vegas Police Officer. Yes fond memories of Sam's Town. Thanks for giving me a peek again.
I am glad you did this video. I've been by it several times, but have never been in. Sam Boyd must have been something else. Before Covid, we used to go up to Cincinnati to Belterra Park Casino. It is a nice casino. That is a spectacular property - light shows, waterfalls, grizzly bears, and bighorn sheep! Angry Butcher looks great! Steak prices are not bad. Great story of the lady saving the notes! I am sure that was a hit! Exactly...just what I said, the steak prices were not that bad.
Thank you! My family and I would always stay here growing up and we would take the shuttle to the strip. The laser light water show was my favorite thing!
Always nice to see things off the strip. Would never know it exist! Bowling alley...movie theater... arcade...slots .. restaurants!! Pool?!? Wouldn't have to leave. Can we live there? 😅😅
Nice reviews, Sam’s Town is a hidden gem in town. I’ve been going since the mid 90’s-I miss the buffet, though, but I love the ice cream counter, and the theater has senior special prices. Great place to bowl.
My son and I visited here yesterday (my choice based on this video). We ate at The Angry Butcher and sat “outside”. The food and experience was amazing! We did not walk the complete casino, just a little over half of it. Thanks for your videos giving ideas for other locations to visit when I’m in Vegas.
Love Sam's Town. This tourist was probably first there in the late 70's and ever since. Used to enjoy shopping in the tent and eating at Willy and Jose's. Glad to see it and thank you!
Driven by many times. Now a distinction to explore and stay. Fun to see Dale out with you, Paula. And always a great story to here from you, Dale. Russell in Tucson, AZ
Thank you so much for going out to Sam's Town! We first stayed there in 89, after the park was enclosed. Loved the rooms that were either beautifully decorated as Victorian or rustic old west. We loved getting coffee and sitting in the park, listening to the babbling Brook, animated birds singing and watching various animated critters doin' their thing. But our favorite was watching the water & light show ( both day & night), from the balcony overlooking the park... especially the wolf/coyote emerging from his den & howling at the commotion! Before he died ,my love said he'd wait for me on that balcony, so of course it always gets my eyes moist. There have been many changes since my last trip there, (food court replaced by TGIF, western wear store softened to include more modern merchandise, a pool), but it still looks great - and the casino is the best for payback! Thanks again D& P. PS- if you overnight there, ask for a room midway down the hall above on the west side of the park in the west
OK this beautiful memory got me all misty...and made me want to book a room just to hang out on the balcony. Thank you so much for this lovely comment, and the recommendation. :)
We love to show viewers what "else" we have in the Las Vegas valley, and you will find lots of off-Strip content on our channel! Thanks for watching :)
We stayed at Sam's Town 17 years ago when British accents off strip were a novelty so everyone was lovely and kept talking to us 🙂 we were long hauled from the airport and the bell boys told the driver off for ripping off tourists and wouldn't let us pay him. Love it there and have been back lots of times since 😁
What a great story about the bell boys! And, we are guilty ourselves of being drawn to all British accents....if we see you, we are gonna stand there and talk to you too, just to listen to your accents! :)
Excellent video! Thanks for providing the history of Sam's Town. I haven't been to this property for a number of years. I used to play the full pay progressive video poker machines up stairs and enjoyed the buffet many times. Thanks for taking me down memory lane.
I always enjoy staying at Sam’s Town. The Angry Butcher is a GREAT value! Great food and service for about half the price of steak places on the strip.
I never watch one of your videos without getting teary eyed. Just the luxury of living somewhere that you can attend to a nice dining atmosphere, take a walk around after dinner, see whatever sights they offer, I mean, what a town. I would never grow tired of visiting the "locals casinos", I don't think. When I did live there I worked every night but one night off a week, so I did not get out enough. Living there as a retiree might be a different story. Bless you both. Thank you, for the memories. Your friendly showgirl.
Hello to our friendly showgirl Kathleen! You are so right, and we never take for granted all that we have on our doorstep...it is mind-boggling and why we probably will never be able to leave it and live elsewhere. We would LOVE to welcome you here, permanently or for a visit...see you soon?
Your information and video were both excellent Dale. Usually fly in so have never been to Sam’s. However I have been to a different Boyd casino and didn’t know it, The Ameristar Casino near St Louis. It is a good sized casino and very well kept up to date. I laughed out loud during your story Dale. 😂😂😂. Also, was hoping Paula had a review of the restaurant. Saw a sign for a Bingo Hall. Was it open?
On that visit there wasn't time to eat anywhere, unfortunately - but I would be interested in an overnight stay, and dinner at the steakhouse. I didn't see a Bingo hall in my wanderings - maybe it was upstairs or something?
I swear, I get so excited for the video when Dale says, “This adventure starts riiiiiiiight now!”. Someone needs to make a compilation video of every time he said it. 😂 I’d so watch it! ❤️
@@paulamckenzie I think Dale needs to Trademark the phrase “This adventure starts riiiiiiiight now!” the same way ring announcer Michael Buffer has Trademarked the phrase "Let's get ready to rumble!" (only he draws out the "L" sound for several seconds).😀
Great Vlog you guy’s! Indeed, there are some amazing resorts off strip. So much to see and do and dine at in Las Vegas! We are trying to get to them all over the years at each vacation there. Thank you so much for doing such a great job of displaying them all and in such a classy way. Your Vlogs are amazing!
Sam's Town is pretty cool. I think it was the first place I picked up a gaming card and I've been to their theater many times. The Lobster Chowder at The Angry Butcher looks like a deal for $10!
What a great and delicious video this is I must say I truly enjoyed it thank you so much Sam’s town Hotel and gambling Hall… OK thank you Paul and Dale
Great video, thanks! I sent the video to my parents since I have stayed at Sam's Town 3 times and send them pictures, but your video explains it much better. Keep up the great work!
I'm so happy you visited Sam's Town. We love visiting casinos off the strip. We stayed at Sam's Town several years ago when it was a very busy casino and people would come on Friday to cash their paychecks. The buffet line was always long. We revisited this year and were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. Love hearing old Las Vegas stories, but did you get the job?
Hello from Turkey. It is really fun to learn English language while watching your videos. I just want to know that can you make a vlog in Wisconsin Dells? I might be there next summer and it would be amazing to see Wisconsin Dells in your vlog before I arrive there. Have a good day!
Hello! Thank you SO much for watching us all the way from Turkey, on the other side of the world - we are so flattered by that! And, that you are practicing your English watching about Las Vegas...how fun. :) Wisconsin is quite far from here - about 1750 miles - so it's not somewhere we can get to easily. Please do check on RU-vid, do a search, and I am sure you will find some videos showcasing this area - I believe it is really lovely there!
Hey guys always look forward to Sundays with y’all. I think everyone enjoys Dale’s stories from the Vegas past! I had a dear friend who was also my escrow officer in my real estate days in Las Vegas who was a Samstown regular. We had many great times fantastic meals in both the buffet and the steakhouse upstairs. In the Buffet with her 80-year-old mother who was it incredible character! She would book the whole Room in the steakhouse for her large Italian family. Fantastic memories. Also bowling and gambling. What a gas!
Hi Paula and Dale! That was a fun visit to Sam's Town! I have been there a few times, and had forgotten how much a blast from the past it was!! Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
This is why I love your channel because you guys always take us to places where the average tourist never goes. That was a great tour of Sam’s Town. I honestly thought you would give us a food report of the Steakhouse but that can be for another time. Dale’s story had me in stitches, it’s always fun to hear about his beginnings in Sin City. Thanks for yet another excellent production. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with next..
We do have a few, yes. We don't post much on here, but there is one we did during lockdown...take a look. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JlvpXapRbMQ.html
Nice! Sam's Town looks awesome, with plenty of things to do. The atrium is really nice. I bet it costs a lot to keep it cool in the hot Vegas summers. I loved Dale's storytelling. He has quite a way of telling them. I'm a little naive, what happened that night when the young woman bent down? LOL 😂
Hey there Dale and Paula! Love your videos so much. Was hoping to see if y’all are going to be heading to New York, New York anytime soon. Wife and I are planning our first trip to Vegas in June, and my wife is dead set on staying there. Much appreciated!
Hello - thank you so much for watching our channel! 😊 We did a staycation at NYNY a couple years ago, before the pandemic - take a look: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wx0gzBuIFoA.html
This coming Sunday Paula will be doing a breakfast at Toms Urban and a quick walk through of New York, New York. We have a video we did in 2019 as well. The link should be in the description box of this Sundays video. Thanks so much for watching. 😊
The big question is, did you get the job? Really enjoy these types of videos so much to see that isn't the strip. We love spending the Sunday morning with you. Much Love Jim & Kathleen
Hit my biggest jackpot at sam's town. Back in the day before uber took a taxi from the flamingo. When we got there he said he forgot to turn his meter on and he said the fare is usually $60.00 needles to say i asked for his number and to talk to his supervisor and low and behold it dropped to $20.00🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing Cheers 🥂🥂
Samstown il visit for sure in 2 months i rem u doing vlog in past paula on it and it looks great.il def go bowling there as funny story back in 90s i helped a friend get off beer we went bowling every friday nite so he wouldnt drink well we played a doubles tournament and low behold we won it tge prize....wait for it to bolw for ireland in miami
Great story!! FYI though, I haven't been in Sam's Town for years, so we definitely haven't ever featured it on our channel before...must have been another Paula lol... :)
Ohhh sigh...he GAVE THEM AWAY to a guy who worked at Guitar Center, more than 20 years ago...When he looked up what they are worth today, while working on this video, he got a little sick...
Thanks for more off-Strip information. That was a fun story by Dale, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who is wondering--how did the woman who was appearing with you react to her "wardrobe malfunction?" How about the reaction of the audience? And perhaps, most importantly, how did the person who oversaw your audition at the casino react? Did the "wardrobe malfunction" prevent you from getting the gig?
I didn't really know her, it was before my time - but Dale says she was like many other gals in show biz, absolutely unfazed by things like that. :) As for what happened after that, and did they get the gig...Dale likes to let you guess on that!
Well we would love to, but Stations never reopened the Fiestas after the pandemic, and they are not going to. Before we moved, and before the shutdown, the Fiesta on Rancho Drive was Dale's absolute favorite casino, we were there several times a week, and he misses it greatly to this day.
I love seeing casinos off the strip so you guys should do this more often. You all should go back and blog the The Angry Butcher Steakhouse. Dale is right I looked up their menu online and the prices are very reasonable. It would be double that on the strip. There is a Sam’s Town Casino that I’ve been to in Shreveport Louisiana but it’s definitely not as nice as this location.
Ok. I have to ask. Dale, have you ever played keno at Sam's Town? I've never had much luck downtown so I'm looking for alternatives the next time I go to LV. Sam's Town is definitely on the list of possibilities.
Hey Bob - it has always been on the other side of town from where we have lived, so we actually spend no time there. Dale used to love the Fiesta for playing keno, but of course those never reopened after the shutdown. He now plays mostly at PT's Pubs near where we live.
You are right! Sheplers was bought out by Boot Barn and they closed that location. But, they have a location at Downtown Summerlin and at Las Vegas Blvd and Warm Springs.😊
