IQ do have predictive validity in many areas of life. Which of course is what they are designed to do. There is massive empirical evidence to support that fact.

A score on an IQ test is just that, a score on taking one test, which can be determined by too many different factors that I have time to list which have nothing to do with somebody's intelligence. Just because someone does well on the test one time does not mean they would do just as well if they took it another time, which makes the entire test useless as a measuring tool. A Mensa card is effectively the same as carrying a picture of a Ferrari to convince people you own the car.

The reason why we know that IQ is a fairly good measure of general intelligence is because of its high validity in life outcomes - IQ positively correlated with school grades, job performance, not crashing your car, not smoking, and life expectancy. Not only that, but in many categories it is the best measure we have. Sure, it's imperfect, but the idea that it "doesn't measure anything other than the IQ score" is rediculous.

It measures problem solving capability in a similar fashion to how the amount you can benchpress measures strength. Sure, there's other parts to strengthen, but you have to deliberately be disingenuous to deny it's actually measuring what it's measuring.

I do not know about today but not too long ago Ashkenazi Jews had the highest average IQ of 115 and I believe East Asians had second place at 105 while Northern Europeans had it at about 100.

Let's assume for a moment you could infer from the call that the caller's intelligence is below average (which I don't think you can). How would that "disprove his own premise"? One individual disproves a trend now? When a tall muscular woman tells you that men on average are taller and have more muscle mass than women, she isn't disproving her statement either. I don't know much about IQ-tests, maybe they don't perfectly predict how intelligent a person is. But implying they have nothing to do with intelligence and just test for who is good at IQ-tests is reaching far.

Physiologists believe that IQ tests measure an overall cogitative ability called 'g', and the tests do have good repeat-ability so they are measuring some permanent quality of the mind applied to them. But that quality is likely entirely based on nurture and cultural upbringing and would correspond best to abstract thinking. And this is why we see the Flynn effect in which overall IQ is rising because people are being increasingly encouraged to think abstractly. The caller also mentioned Epigenetics which is the relatively resent discovery that genes actually get 'tagged' during life and that phenotype changes occur without permanent genotype changes. This basically nullifies every twin study on IQ as what would seem like genetic influence could simply have been the parents environment being expressed in epigenetics. Some of this phenomenon could could explain group differences that remain even in a cross-racial adoption and high-quality environments not completely closing group performance gaps. Even if this is the case it will just be a few generations for these epiginetic switches to be flipped if quality environments are provided, completely contrary to the 'equality is impossible so lets not even try' policy that BellCurvers advocate.

The modern IQ test was intended to measure logic and reasoning among other things... It was also designed to be culturally neutral using geometric shapes and visuals that are not culturally biased... That test was given and intended to be given to people all around the world...

I work in genetics and on a DNA level theres more diversity within assigned groups than between them, and Africa as a continent has more diversity than any other. There is differences between individuals and some individuals can share genotypes because of ancestry (made possible by isolation of groups an bottle necks after population disasters or migration, which doesnt really happen these days) but they arent like these big concepts like intelligence, it's small things like this gene expresses more to metabolize this class of molecules.. and each variant interacts with all others.. it's a subtle things that interact with everything else in and out of the body. environmental factors are a huge deal when it comes to looking at genetics and it's made an the entire field of epidemiology a cluster f because they cant model things outside of simple prevalent conditions like flu. They are being forced to partner with geneticists and sociologists doing whole genome studies and more, but even then they do stupid things like declaring correlation equaling causation without further investigation and are smacked down by the next paper from a different lab. Even what food or what side of a city someone grew up on influences their biology. How much lead is in the environment or how funded the schools are has a bigger impact on IQ than genetics in American society and I can confidently say that because of actual research and the fact that we cant measure intelligence with any know genes or variants within them. The IQ tests (like those cited in the bell curve) used to evaluate different groups are debunked, either because the researchers themselves noted the people being tested weren't a diverse representation of a region or the tests were unintelligible to those taking them because of language and apartheid structures, or they noted environmental factors like culturally the way the people discuss the concepts of direction or time were different or questions referenced items found in european cultures but not the local one, like fashion items... the majority of differences are just a matter of socioeconomic consequences, discrimination, and language/culture differences not measured by or adjusted for in their bs test...

Aren't IQ tests designed specifically to measure the intelligence of people across a large spectrum? Like, if you try to measure athleticism only with a running test, that's comparable with trying to measure intelligence with a math test. The IQ test isn't a math test, it's a widely scoped test designed to measure the broad spectrum of intelligence in a person (their quotient, if you will).
